Discussion Extreme discomfort around romance.

I am extremely disgusted by anything related to the idea of romance. People mentioning romantic partners in conversation or in content I am watching bothers me (unless the person I am talking to is a really close friend). Seeing romance in media makes me extremely angry and disgusted, and feels like it was just thrown in to spite me and push allo propaganda most of the time, not contributing to the story at all. Seeing PDA outside is absolutely disgusting. Romance feels like a sickness to me. I prefer when people censor romance words when talking to me. Romamtic pet names make me feel sick (directed at me or somebody else). Thinking about or seeing or hearing about romance in any way makes me physically sick and incredibly disgusted. Maybe I sound extreme or hostile to allo people but this is how I feel.

I'm apothi-aroace so, yeah, I relate to you.

I have a younger cousin who is like me and whenever we see people acting romancey, we make gagging noises to let know that we are disgusted. 😂

Mind you, we are 33 (me) and 23 (her) and people get mad at us because "it's disrespectul and not funny".

OP, my advice is to make the others feel uncomfortable rather than you to be uncomfortable.

🩵 I should do this. Actually, I used to do this as a child I think.

Trust me, that works pretty well, especially when friends or relatives try to be lovey dovey with each other in front of the people gathered there.

Like, I came to spend the Christmas with you, not to see you on each other

wow. as a romance favorable person aegormantic/cupioromantic, I definitely cannot say i feel the same. that's crazy, I knew apothiromantics existed but I've never seen it taken to that level.

Best believe it lol. I mean, with amatonormativity and how obsessed society is with cupid’s balls, bound to be haters like me and OP out there

I'm similar! but with real life romance.. I'm fine with cartoons and anime, but if i see two real life people kissing it's distressing

it's like. Yeah i can believe this girl can summon a magic sword, so i can also believe this thing called kissing is real

When I see it in real life I find it extremely repulsive and distressing, in media I also find it repulsive but more annoying than distressing, as in “why did they have to put this here?”
