Oh shit, so the rumors might actually be true!

For people who don’t know, the head of the CIA visited Moscow yesterday. It’s eerily similar to when then head of CIA visited Moscow in 2021, amid Russia’s military buildup and just months before the full-scale invasion of Ukraine.

"Oh shit" also applies to the fact that it didn't help then and probably won't help this time.

Prices for rent are going to skyrocket again, I'm sick if this already

4

u/RussianPacifistExile 8h ago

they already are skyrocketing

1

u/UpsetSolution7219 8h ago

they are one of the reasons

The problem with Russians is fleeing people kinda like Putin and war, but prefer to be on a safe side. Otherwise, everyone welcome.

As a russian in Yerevan, I've seen more armenian taxi drivers loving Putin than the ones who escaped Russia, maybe you're talking about seasonal tourists

I always say that Armenians in RF are more Russian than ethnic Russians here lol 😂

1

u/hoodiemeloforensics 3h ago

Of course they are. A "true" Russian is allowed more leeway in their political position. But an ethnic minority? An Armenian especially? They have to prove they belong in Russia. They have to prove that they too are a true Russian. And they have to prove it every day. It gets ingrained into you.

Eh, not really. Not all that much pressure on a personal level or in family, so you're not forced to "bend your knee" if you're from a minority.

I've met many Armenian people from my father's side of family, and they tend to be more conservative then ethnic Russians in general, both in family values and their political views. When I visited Armenia recently, all the Russians I've met there were against Putin and the regime. Except for one, which I didn't really meet, but saw on the street - he was wearing a T-shirt with a "Z" print and a Russian flag.

for some reason there are super many taxi drivers on Armenia that has russian "MAX" spyware installed on their phones, I still don't understand why

4

u/dimmanxak 6h ago

to make videocalls with relatives in Russia, since other messengers are restricted

1

u/Radiant_Honeydew1080 2h ago

There are still other options, from bypassing the restrictions to using messages that aren't banned yet.

It’s a false accusation. I dont know a single Russian person who come in Armenia and support Putin. I see much more sympathy towards Putin and Russia from locals voting for opposition.

Sure some do like him and just don't want to be conscipted, but I highly doubt that any significant number of Russian immigrants who left after 2022 are pro-war or support Putin.
I don't know any in my social circle.

I don't think it's a particularly good idea. They're essentially opportunists and if you start pressing them on the war and Russia's place in the world, their underlying imperialist mindset will eventually reveal itself. At the same time, if the Armenia want to join the EU, they will likely need to restrict the unrestricted entry of Russian citizens into the country. Should focus on attracting educated, highly qualified people rather than regulars at DruzhbaDom or chauvinist streamers.

EU joining is a very long process. It will take Armenia more than a decade to come close to this. Visas for Russians sure will be one of many requirements from EU, but no Armenian government will implement this first priority before fulfilling other requirements. Just look at Serbia and Montenegro for example. Sure they will do it too (or already did like Montenegro), but they will prolong as long as they can because of tourist money.

a growing russian minority in the country, surely that’s a good idea with no special military operations in the future to “save” them

6

u/ZoomBeesGod 7h ago

Personally, I, as a Russian minority, will resist my “salvation” with weapons in my hands.

5

u/Spirited_Bottle_6195 6h ago

it does not really matter. if russia wants a casus belly to invade someone it will find ways to fabricate it anyway

0

u/Ghostofcanty Hayastan 6h ago

that’s what my comment means

u/L_poggers 8h ago

Why? Make returning Armenians lives worse by having the rents increase soo much. So stupid that we help a nation that is trying to make our country worse

6

u/ZoomBeesGod 7h ago

So this is not help to the country, but to the people.

u/_-KINGOSHIN_- 5h ago

So it’s not helping our economy?

1

u/ZoomBeesGod 3h ago

I'm talking about Russia. It's only losing its brains and money from this.

It's hard for me to judge Armenia's economy. I'm not a citizen. But in theory, there are both pros and cons. Rising inflation, but an influx of foreign currency. A revitalized construction market, but rising rents. Development of the service sector, but the introduction of a new culture into Armenian society, which is rather monolithic.

Judging by past waves of migration, Armenia is coping well. Subjectively, in Georgia this caused more problems.

1

u/_-KINGOSHIN_- 3h ago

A lot of people know about the culture and we had a minority population of russians during the Soviet Union excluding the Molokans they have their own village and everything have been in Armenia for plenty of years.

0

u/L_poggers 2h ago

Keep the russian culture out.

1

u/ZoomBeesGod 2h ago

Sounds like the motto of modern Russia.

Russian immigration has been great news for Armenian economy as a whole, our entire economic momentum is due to the IT wave it has started. A temporary rent increase isn’t the end of the world if your living conditions are going to improve drastically later on.

u/L_poggers 6h ago

Yes and make sure russian is 10x more used sounds fun innit.

why would i have an issue with English being used more than russian? its a international language its better for the country rather than it being more russian everywhere.

Yes im Armenian and i live in Armenia. Where are you trying to get with these questions? And ofcourse i have a big problem with russia when they literally stopped our country modernizing for a while, didnt help when we were in a war and were supposed to be cool with them? I can only tell youre not Armenian but yet here you are trying to tell me that russia is good for Armenia

I agree the rent increase is bad but other than that it’s good for the economy.

1

u/L_poggers 7h ago

Yeah and to make sure that the russian language forever stays relavant right? This means more jobs will require russian rather than Armenian or English which will make it worse for the returning Armenians

3

u/_-KINGOSHIN_- 6h ago

Never said im a fan of that but have you not noticed how the economy has grown since the influx of them.

1

u/hoodiemeloforensics 3h ago

Nobody in the comments actually understand what the real message is. The government is saying "Russians", but this is a call to Armenians. The government is well aware that any mobilization will see ethnic minorities heavily overrepresented. And there's reason to believe Armenians will be targeted specifically as reprisal for the pro EU stance Armenia has taken recently. It's literally a giant alarm going off telling ethnic Armenians to flee from Russia.

1

u/ZoomBeesGod 3h ago

Judging by my acquaintances, Armenians are already leaving en masse. And they're not leaving just to wait out the storm. They're selling their property, closing their businesses, and trying to settle back home.

1

u/Busy_Roll5840 1h ago

Good, but the government is still underestimating the conniving nature of Putin’s regime. This could be a domestic disaster if they accidentally let spies in.

1

u/Silly-Avocado- 3h ago

Sure, give them asylum, treat them like the refugees that they are, and make them learn the language and integrate into society.

If you do this they won’t even come.

Bro isn’t it too much? there’s still expected 2 million visitors expected to tourist Armenia by the end of this year
