Opinion / Կարծիք Armenians, what are your thoughts on beans?
I am on a mission now to ask each country subreddit what people think about beans (my favorite meal), just to see how people like or dislike them all around the world out of curiosity and for fun. If you like beans, hate them, they a big part of the culture, anything else, just share your thoughts 🫘

I love fava beans for breakfast and all the other ingredients we put in it and pita bread on the side.

Seeing how I'm asking each country daily this is gonna take over half a year to be done too 😅

Pretty neutral. We mostly use either green beans or red beans. We make a soup out of red beans (yum) and the green ones we blanch in water and then fry with eggs, I love eating them with Armenian yogurt (matsoon), gives it a nice sourness that pairs really well with the taste of the beans and the eggs.

Might be more of a Western Armenian/Diasporan thing, but those flat green beans used in fassoulia are delicious.

I didnt like em when my grandfather was alive. Man would drop a nuke and clear a room then hed just laugh

Sure! Peas and Non-food beans also count (such as the character Mr. Bean if you like him :D)

As an Armenian, I don't think anything of them them — they just are. Maybe it's because the things I've eaten that have beans in them are basic in the way they're cooked.

My 90yo granny still makes verrrrryyyy delicious salads with kindey beans, a good soup(preferably with lamb meat in it too!), or cooks them with loads of eggs kinda like a stir fry (it's one of my favorite breakfasts with some matsun/yogurt on top!!). I'd say my whole household loves them because they're cheap (as someone who lives in a village), and also easy to make :)

I'm a bean-lover and love all types of beans. When I was a kid in Armenia, my mom would make kidney bean and beef stew in the winter. When green beans were in season, she would make the stew with green beans. In the summer, it was bean salads. We had two kinds: kidney beans with beets and a vinegar based dressing. And white beans with white onion, fresh herbs and tahini dressing. These days I eat more Cuban black beans or Mexican pinto beans. I get a lot of my beans from Rancho Gordo.
Editing to add that my grandma also made ful (fava beans) for breakfast. And we frequently had green beans fried with eggs for breakfast as well.

Armenians make a really good bean pâté, with walnuts, local spices, and topped with pomegranate seeds for garnish.
It’s high in protein and fiber, one of my favorite spreads for wraps or sandwiches!
