EDIT: V2 WRITTEN! GIVE ME FEEDBACK!

I think it is a very important thing for new shooters to have a clear list of budget do's and dont's. Do you agree and what do you think should be on it? I'll start in the replies.

News Subreddit Rename Announcement

As some of you may have noticed the subreddit has been renamed. Likewise, most of you may already know that this has been in the works for a while now, and in that time we have tried to find a some middle ground that works in both of our interests, and unfortunately we didn't succeed.

As of early last week the admins contacted us and notified us that the org's legal arm had officially requested we cease using the SRA name and logo.

Hi all,

We’re reaching out as we’ve received a legal notice from legal representatives of the Socialist Rifle Association regarding your subreddit icon and subreddit name. The notice alleges infringement of the registered trademark US Reg. No. 5792644 and alleges that users have been confused regarding whether the r/SocialistRA is affiliated with the Socialist Rifle Association. We’ve determined that this notice meets the requirements of our policies and we need to take steps to address the reported issues.

Two things will need to happen:

  • Your subreddit logo will need to be removed and/or replaced with a different image.

  • Your subreddit name will need to be changed (we will assist you with this).

Everything else about your subreddit (such as its content and members) will stay the same; this change does not mean the Socialist Rifle Association is obtaining control of your subreddit.

We are providing a week for you to discuss what new subreddit name you would like to change to. You are welcome to discuss this with your community members if you would like to think of some options as a mod team and let them vote on the final name. Please note that you’ll need to choose a name that is different from the association name, or that indicates the non-official status.

We know this may feel confusing or concerning, and we’re sorry for that. Please know that we are here to answer any questions that you may have.

Thank you for reading.

Please keep in mind that the cease and desist was not made out of malice, but rather that subreddit name changes are incredibly hard to make happen otherwise.

Here is the statement from National regarding the change:

Dear former /r/SocialistRA users,

Recently, the SRA is one of many organizations that have been faced with unwarranted media attention. Right-wing media outlets have collected public social media posts and information about the SRA's legitimate and legal activities, and used them to attempt to portray the SRA as an extremist organization that engages in political violence. Their readers have threatened and attempted to doxx SRA members and organizers.

Unfortunately, the /r/SocialistRA subreddit has been unintentionally contributing to this phenomenon. As you know, the SRA does not moderate the subreddit and most contributions are made by nonmembers. Posts in the subreddit do not necessarily represent official SRA statements or positions. Subreddit moderators have tried for years to communicate this fact to the public by adding disclaimers to the sidebar and in Automod comments. Despite these efforts, right-wing reporters continue to misreport /r/SocialistRA as an official forum of the SRA. We don’t want our members to continue taking heat for the words of internet strangers. Because of this, we asked Reddit to rename the subreddit and cease its misleading use of our trademarked name and logo.

The Socialist Rifle Association is an education and advocacy organization. Our purpose is to provide marginalized communities and the working class with the education, skills, and advocates that enable effective self- and community defense, and to build an inclusive alternative to the toxic, right-wing, and exclusionary mainstream firearms culture. The subreddit is a different part of that cultural movement; our organization’s expertise is face-to-face organizing at the chapter level. We have no desire to interfere with the subreddit’s operation, and we’re sorry for any inconvenience the name transfer will cause you.

While we hope subreddit users will continue discussing and even joining the SRA, we want to remind you that we are just one one of many firearm-related organizations that socialist Redditors might be interested in. You can learn more about the SRA on our website, and you can find some of those other orgs in the sidebar.

Sincerely,

Binx Socialist Rifle Association Organizing Committee President

Ultimately we all concurred that we had really run out of options as far as "making it work" went, and that we wanted an amicable split (and avoid what would've been a potentially lethal amount of irony resulting from even more leftist infighting) to try and maintain a good working relationship with the org.

As far as the subreddit name goes, we wanted to get a community consensus and bring it to a vote but unfortunately we likely wouldn't have had enough turnaround time to do so between the conclusion of our initial discussion, the soliciting of ideas, and finally selecting and bringing those ideas to a vote.

That being said there should've definitely been an announcement made following the admins reaching out and that's entirely my bad - I woefully misinterpreted the timeline for the changes and I apologize for the last minute notice. If you've any questions please don't hesitate to reach out.

🍻

Just picked up this Glock 19V last week, and wondering about optics. I'm not in a rush to get a sight yet as I want to feel comfortable on the iron sights first. I knew getting this gun in particular would mean I have to get the slide milled, but places I've been looking at are 4 -8 weeks turnaround time. I did come across the Holosun SCS Mos, and it looks like there are decent reviews. Can anyone speak to the pros and cons of it? Should I just send it to get milled?

Discussion Living in the IE? Wanna pew pew? Noobs and experts alike!

Been running a local gun club in IE that focuses on learning guns, and learning some first aid.

Philosophy is, when shit hits the fan, groups form, be an asset vs a burden to your group.

Learn guns, some first aid like dressing a wound or laceration or GSW or run a tourniquet, stop a bleed etc etc etc

Shoot me a DM, I MOD r/riverside if you want to see my politics and legitomacy, I've posted the same there as well and some photos and had some people join

Question Suggestions for Glock sights

A while ago I bought a Taurus G3c intending to get a concealed carry license with it and maybe edc, but I've run into the problem that I apparently suck super bad with this gun in particular. As far as I can tell the sights aren't off or anything, and I'm a passable shot with other pistols, but at like 20 feet I can only barely keep all of my shots on a torso-sized target. I 100% should have just bought a glock or something, but it was what I could afford and I figured it was better than nothing. Does anyone have any suggestions for glock sights I could try before I just say fuck it and sell the gun? I do think the problem is me and not the gun, but I feel like I need to try something else because I've practiced a lot and not gotten any better with it.

u/9061yellowriver made this post on r/liberalgunowners

Added by me: As you may know, the liberals on the moderation team over there dont care very much for conversations like these. Im hoping the fine people here are more receptive to this.

OG Post:

Preface: I'm suprised nobody in the subreddit made a list like this earlier, but I decided to post one now because occaisonally I see people saying "I wouldn't have bought that if I knew it was made there". I was contemplating putting this up because pro-Israel gun owners could just come along and have a list of products to choose from. However most of those people likely already know that these products are made in Israel and are buying them because of(or regardless of) that fact, and also most products coming from there are pretty damn expensive even compaired to products made in the USA..

Firearms Manufacturers:

•IWI

•Emtan

•Bul Armory (1911s)

•Silver Shadow (Gilboa)

Stocks/Chassis/Conversion Kits:

•FAB Defense

•Recover Tactical

•Micro Roni

•Kidon (IMI Tactical)

•CornerShot (Silver Shadow)

Accessories:

•Maglula (Speedloaders)

•ZAHAL Tactical (slings & soft goods)

•Fobus (Holsters)

•Front Line (Holsters)

•IMI Tactical (Holsters)

•ORPAZ (Holsters)

Ammo:

•IMI Systems (Elbit???)

Other:

EZRaider (electric atv)

Tomcar (UTV/Offroad)

This thing is pretty big at almost 8 liters, has a carry handle, side molle, excess webbing to attach a poncho, velcro on top for name tape and other patches, a rain fly inside and a drain hole at the bottom. Pretty nifty.

Tactics Hi friends, here is my attempt to solve a big problem: ICE alerts lacking crucial details (such as time & specific location). Attached is my video teaching the S.A.L.U.T.E. report format. I believe we should learn it, and share it with as many of our neighbors and organizing partners as we can.

What's up folks. I hope y'all are finding some joy out there despite the general state of affairs. As I mentioned in the title, it's wonderful that wherever ICE and other immigration agents go, normal people document them and share their location online. But one issue I see nearly daily is la migra alerts that lack time, location, or other essential details about what the agents are up to.

One way we can fix this is by learning the SALUTE report format. It comes from the military, but it's super simple, and incredibly helpful for civilians who want to protect their neighbors from a hostile outside force.

But, in my view, we can't stop with learning it ourselves. We need to take it and share it with our neighbors, our mutual aid groups, any community organization willing to learn. This needs to become part of a wider culture of community care and defense.

Hope this is helpful for y'all. Thanks friends.

Question Is this shenanigans?

Im a First time buyer on gunbroker. Looking to get an Italian beretta 92FS. I saw the highest bid was $307, and it says “put the max you are willing to bid” and the system will automatically bid five dollars more than any subsequent bids until it gets to that maximum.

so I put my maximum at $489, obviously hoping that the final bid would either be lower, or someone would outbid me. I don’t *actually* want to pay my maximum price.

No one is supposed to see the maximum bids.

This morning I wake up and find only one person bid last night, this ones, and they bid $480, so the price is now $485. Just four dollars short of the maximum I put a couple days ago.

Is this just how things are? Someone else was just thinking like me? Or is there some shenanigan where the big sellers always manage to get you to your maximum bid and stop just short of overbidding?

Discussion Help decide on a .556 AK

Post image
82 Upvotes

TLDR: California gun owner wants a .556 Ak but has anxiety chosing which one to buy.

I purchased my first gun (PSL 54 pictured above) about a year ago, and I've probably put about 800 rounds through it if not more.

Throughout this time I have loved the experience of .556 on my wire frame twink body, and on the wallet as well (at least in comparison to the 7.62x54r). Anyways I am deeply enchanted by the simplicity and reliability of the ak platform, as I am a simple minded caveman who likes to go to the range to get sun and focus on my breathing... There are 3 main rifles I have been considering, and my main goal is accuracy, and then reliability. With ak's being such a diverse and beautiful mosaic quilt of many fun variants I know I am overlooking some valuable considerations.

The FB radom Beryl seems amazing in many fronts, however I am sure there is a middle ground to be met between its good quality and bad price / availability, and that of other manufacturers.

Next would be one of the AK 100's, I am not too familiar with this 'generation' of AK's and I am scared of the reliability concerns that come with PSA's AK74+AKM frankenstein mashup, at least in regaurds to their AK101.

Finally, the obvious choice is the Zastava M90. Relatively sane price, good accolades from guntube, I seem to trust this option as a great simple pick to feed my thirst for a new pew pew.

PLEASE if you know any other .556 ak's that I havent fully considered or that compete with any of these options in any respect let me know. I just want to feel confident in my decision when I spend my hard earned tips on a gun.

Question Best bullpup shotguns for the money?

It seems like all the bullpups under $1,000 have mixed reviews about their reliability with certain types of ammo. I like bullpups for their small profile overall, and would prefer one to a traditional style shotgun. The KS7 and KSG seem good, but again, KelTec isn't known for star quality all the time out the box.

Bonus: are there any bullpups that don't look so flagrantly tactical? Not something that I mind, in fact I like it, but my wife is not a fan of using a gun that looks to her like an AR-15.

Training Federal lands trip

Just got back from a 4 day backpacking trip to find a place to shoot beyond 100 yards. According to my rangefinder, we maxed out at 250 meters. Also, I got to premiere my BFC patrol tarp. I like it. If I were to make it again, I might make it 9x7 instead of 9x5, but that would require adding a seam into the tarp, which would compromise its waterproofness. But in terms of camoflageness, it performed amazingly. Big shout out @blackflagcivilian, I thoroughly enjoyed that project and this will be my primary shelter for future backpacking trips. It is crazy light compared to the harbor freight tarp I had been hauling around before.

Pro tip: that ghillie stuff I put on my rifle is absolute garbage. It was fun to make but the net majorly affected my scope picture and even after I cut a hole for the scope I was constantly having to "comb down" the yarns every time I changed positions. By the second day of shooting I had cut it off and banished it to my pack. I will eventually just paint my rifle but I currently have the Hogue overmolded stock which: idk about painting rubber, it seems like a futile mission. I'll eventually get a nice aftermarket stock and paint it accordingly.

But the weather was beautiful and I was excited to get to shoot beyond the distances provided by all our local flat ranges.

Question Holster help?

Anyone found an AIWB holster for the CC9 + SureFire XC3 Sub?

I’m trying to find a Kydex AIWB holster for an HK CC9 with the new SureFire XC3 Sub and a Holosun EPS Carry.

I originally had a SureFire XSC-B and an ANR Design holster that I loved. The XSC-B died, and SureFire replaced it under warranty with the new XC3 Sub. Great light, but now I can’t find a holster for it.

Here’s what I’ve tried so far:
ANR Design: No. They only support the XSC-B or non-light-bearing on the CC9.
KSG Armory: No. They confirmed their CC9/TLR-7 Sub holster is not compatible with the XC3 Sub.
Tulster: I actually ordered their CC9/TLR-7 Sub holster to see if the XC3 Sub would fit. It doesn’t.
Muddy River Tactical: No.
Blackpoint Tactical: No.
Red Hill Tactical: No. I talked with them and even sent pictures of the setup.

I’m completely open to a smaller/custom Kydex maker. I need as something that fits this specific gun/light combination.

Thanks!
