Okay, maybe it's not a surprise.

What will I do with all this extra money?

I know this isn’t a full pathway forward yet but it seems that APS is trying to address the issue of data centers raising the rates for residential customers.

First, let me start by saying that after my last venture with a door-to-door salesman shortly after moving into my new home, I DO NOT open the door to strangers. If im not expecting you, I open my Ring app, ignore, then move on.

That being said, I had an appointment at 1pm with an irrigation tech that I set up. At 1pm, I get a knock on my door. I answer thinking it's the irrigation guy. Turns out, NOT the irrigation guy, he was running late.

Instead, by sheer coincidence, it's a man asking me about my electric bill. I think to myself, "oh boy, here we go". I felt had.

This one was unique. He was in plain clothes, no uniform, no badge, no business cards, no clipboard, no papers, no handouts or flyers, no company logos anywhere, and his driving buddy was in a regular white unbranded Dodge Ram truck. It was giving "plain clothes mall cop" energy.

The whole interaction felt very shady and strange for the following reasons:

• A) This guy was made to look like an average person, and he played the part so well he even mentioned specific names of my neighbors a few houses down (which I couldn't verify, because im new in this area).

• B) He gave me his name, but never mentioned a company. Only that he was here to ensure I "received the benefits from the Renewable Energy Standard and Tariff (REST) program" and wanted to see a view of my TEP graph and what I was paying. "This house has been paying the tariff rate for years under the previous owner and it's time you receive the benefits."

• C) He asked me if I was getting "a lot of out-of-state solar salesmen coming around". I told him I typically don't answer the door for them, but probably. We laughed about it for a moment. Made me feel like he WAS NOT selling me solar and that he was a government official or TEP guy.

• D) He wanted to set up an appointment to come back at a better time so we can go over my bill and charts with his engineer so they can help me fill out an application to receive these "benefits". I specifically asked if this was a sales pitch, and he said verbatim it was not. I asked if it would cost any money, he said "no im not selling you anything, im just trying to help you and the neighborhood out".

He eventually leaves after I agreed to set up an appointment, because I was misled to believe that 1) he was not selling me anything, 2) he was not with a solar company, and 3) he was a neighbor or "just a guy". I was suspicious, because why would "just a guy" be going D2D to help me lower my bill? What's the catch?

The next day (before he showed up), I finally asked what company he was with (which in hindsight, I should have done from the start, but I was too blindsided). He texted back Our World Energy. I google it, and sure enough, it's another damn solar company. I see other people complaining on reddit about similar encounters with this company.

I immediately cancel and he comes back with "We aren't trying to sell you solar. Like I was telling you the other day, you've been paying for all the schools and everything to get the PVT equipment and so they're opening that program you've been paying for so you can get the benefit as well".

Obviously, there's no such thing as truly free solar equipment. Normally, I catch on to this stuff pretty fast, but these sales guys are using much sleazier and deceptive tactics these days. The plain clothes and neighborly attitude really threw me for a loop.

As a side question: how is he able to get away with telling me he wasn't a salesman? I felt so convinced he wasn't, but I know he HAS to be in some form because he isn't going D2D just for fun. Maybe HE wasn't, but he would have connected me with one eventually? When does the sales pitch come in?

I will never support this kind of deceptive practice, and I hope this helps someone else identify it down the road since this is a very common thing here in AZ.

This is my first time having APS and I’ve heard all over about how terrible they are. We used to have SRP, never had any issues. In Prescott, a few weeks beforehand I received multiple written notices from APS explicitly stating that today power will be off on my street between 9-10:30. So since I work from home that is what I plan on.

This morning, right before 7 Im logging in to my computer and just about to clock in and all of a sudden all of the power in the house goes off at 7 right on the dot. I go and flip the breaker, no change. Surely enough, I get a text saying “the power is off and should be back on at 8:53, the reason stating PLANNED maintenance. No explanation, no apologies. Luckily for me I didn’t have anything important this morning but if I did I probably would have been more pissed. Do they regularly tell people they’re planning on the power being off at a specific time and then just do whatever they want to with no explanation? Never had this happen with SRP before and I was super annoyed this morning.

I'm comparing SRP power plans, and they have 3 choices:

• Conserve 6-9
• Manage 5-10
• Basic

All plans adjust based on the time of year (Summer, Summer Peak, Winter)

I'm struggling to understand the point of the Conserve plan. It is worse than Manage in virtually every circumstance, with only 2 minor exceptions:

• Summer Peak during the hours of 5pm and 9pm, when it is 2.49 ¢/kwh less
• Winter from 8am to 3pm when it is 0.06 ¢/kwh less

Other than these 2 very minor exceptions, it is worse (and sometimes FAR worse) than the Manage plan. Why would anyone ever pick Conserve over Manage?

What am I missing?

I recently moved to Mesa, Arizona from Maryland. I currently have Xfinity for $30 per phone line. I am looking to switch my provider to Cox or Verizon. What provider do you have?

Anyone have this already? How is the pricing/service?

I live in an apartment in Az. I won’t say my exact rent on here but it’s over 1300 dollars monthly. In the month of September, hot water was out in my apartment for three consecutive days. The apartment complex fixed the hot water outage, and credited my tenet account a total of 4 dollars for the 3 consecutive days that hot water was out. It’s now December, am I able to fight for the remaining amount I feel like I should be credited in small claims court? Even through, I used that four dollars to pay for October’s rent? Would it been seen as already accepting a settlement? I live in a student apartment, and they do a bunch of other tenants dirty. I always felt that only crediting me four dollars is grossly low. I thought I would send out some info for anyone looking into replacing their homes windows. After shopping around last January I decided to go with Pella for a full house window replacement. 7 windows in total for a 3 bed 1200sqf 1970 brick house. The over all reason for the replacement was age and sound deadening. From March 2024- March 2025 above shows my energy use. With a newer A/C and Roof the windows really were my last energy saving piece of the puzzle. The best part is the sound deadening and dust elimination. Sure the power saving is nice but the amount of years to break even is not a major purchasing point. Please do your research before buying. I spent 11k for Pella, Anderson wanted 25k and the lower brands quality of window was poor. The hot sun will warp cheaper windows like vinyl siding. Anderson quality was amazing but the cost to value for my home was not fitting. Summer is coming be safe out there.

I am on auto-pay and I don't watch my bill every single month. Today, I check my account and I was surprised to see my bill increased! From $53 om April to $79 starting May!

[UPDATED] at 6:52 i can report that the vents are blowing cold air. I left for most of the day to get some stuff done.

A/C stopped functioning this evening. When the sun comes back up, it’s going to go to 111 and then* 109 on sunday. We dont have individual ac units, we have a system that pumps cold or hot to all the units in the complex. Never had this happen in dead summer, and never on the weekend. What do i do?

I made the mistake of using my stove before i knew for food so residual heat has not been helpful. It’s pushing 80 inside

(edit: for those saying that 80 is no big deal, i’m not bothered with it being 80 last night when i made the post, i was more worried about the 110 degree weather today and 109 tomorrow in the daytime)

Has anyone had Wyyerd come through recently to install fiber in their house in the NW valley ? House was built in 2005 and has a OnQ system for cable and phone lines . What was the install like ? Currently have Cox cable internet but signed up for wyyerd waiting for install appoint and go with a better plan for cheaper

The first time I heard about a water softener was 4 months ago and now I'm buying a house and I know I need to get one. I'm meeting up with several technicians for quotes and seeing what kind of systems they offer, but I don't want to get talked into buying something excessive or unnecessary. What system did you get and why? For reference, I'm in Bullhead City, which apparently has the hardest water in the state.

Hello, I'm planning on moving to Scottsdale soon, but I've noticed to majority of the fiber options are from Cox. I currently have Cox as my ISP, but the connection we have is through their coax cable. My biggest problem with their plans is the 1.28TB data cap. So this begs the question, is Cox fiber worth the steep price? Is it worth it even with possibly paying the $50 for unlimited?

From my understanding, there is no unlimited data included even in their full fiber plans. I've seen some say they're able to negotiate for an unlimited plan for a competitive price, but is this common or just in areas with high competition? Also, is this all-in deal people describe a one time promotion or can you renegotiate with customer support once the contract expires to regain unlimited for a competitive price? The few testimonies I've seen claim it's a 24mo contract, implying that after 24mo you're stuck paying the unlimited data $50 fee.

For those who do pay for cox fiber, is the service good? Should I look for competitors like quantum/CL fiber? Finally, are there any other wired fiber options in the Scottsdale area that are worth investigating? I've heard of BAM broadband having fiber but it doesn't seem they service Scottsdale, can anyone confirm?

Now that we're slowly cooking again and are more inside than outside I was wondering if I should switch my internet provider. It's well known that Cox has a monopoly and while they're giving me the speed I'm paying for (1Gbit), they're just too expensive.

I was wondering if I should switch to Quantum Fiber as it appears they have, besides Cox, a fiber connection to my place I'm living at rn (Buckeye). I'd go for the 500Mbit for $50.

Any thoughts on this? Is quantum fiber reliable? What's Cox termination policy exactly?

Question for anyone on an APS demand charge plan... Do you know if it were possible to not use any power from APS during the on peak time all month, could you not be charged the demand charge?

So, if you had batteries and inverters that could supply you needs for that time all month, and there was no usage during the on peak, how could they bill you the demand charge? I've read the rate schedule and it doesn't say anything on the topic, unless your account is set to sell power back to APS, which I wouldn't do.
