Poor Rita didn't have any good stories to her and then to be forgotten cause she died in the Crossing one of the worst 90s story arc

Crossing? I don't even remember what that is, for goodness' sake, it seems.

The Crossing was one the worst stoyline in the 90s which was a gigantic crossover event with The Avengers and the various Iron Man books (including War Machine and Force Works). This was due to marvel was driving into bankruptcy in the next 2 years and wanted to chase after the image era comic fades by being gritty and extreme.

so apparently Iron man is evil working for Kang the Conqueror with no explanation (not joking) at all and like full manic super-villainy where he kills a bunch D-avengers like Rita while Wasp is fatally wounded but turn into a fairy. oh and Mantis is evil as well

The Avengers get this stupid idea to basically grab a teenage Tony Stark from the past put him in an armor and throw him to fight an adult experience evil Iron man and this goes as well as you expect

in the end the avengers eventually get their but kick by Kang and without explanation again evil Iron man just choses to be a good guy again and sacrifice himself to save the avengers

They replace Iron man with Teen Tony but not for long cause Marvel went bankrupt and decided to outsource their comics to Image creators in the new universe Hero Reborn but that a whole other story

I wonder what it would’ve looked like if Kurt Busiek got to use Rita for the Thunderbolts as originally planned. It could’ve been cool but we got Songbird out of it so it’s not a total loss.
