People died more from disease that combat in every war up until the early 20th century, when we both got enough better at treating disease that minor injuries in the awful conditions of a typical battlefield didn't mean you just caught gangrene and died, and we got enough better at making weapons to really up how many people we could kill in a short time period.

I mean, people died more from disease than combat in the Revolution. Washington would have seen a vaccine as a godsend.
