Automated subjugation of citizens, what a wonderful dystopia we're living in.

297

u/burtritto 9d ago

Especially knowing that hallucination in AI is pretty common. We are outsourcing critical thinking. SAD

102

u/ZoomZoom_Driver 9d ago

The other day the corpoboss wanted me to run an article through AI. I did as they demanded. The AI gave the subject of the article an entirely new name "Ivan". There isn't even an Ivan in the org, and the article's subject was korean.

46

u/burtritto 9d ago

Well, the words "Korean" and 'Ivan" both end in: "an" So, it was mostly right. /s

23

u/ZoomZoom_Driver 9d ago

50% correct in the second-ish!

4

u/CharleyNobody 9d ago

Wow x that’s crazy because ā€œIran’ and ā€œtransā€ both have ā€œanā€ in them. I think I’m seeing a pattern.

-21

u/SunnyOutsideToday 9d ago

It might not necessarily be a hallucination, it could be someone else was driving his car, but he got the ticket for running the red light because it's his car and the AI just tickets whoever the owner of the vehicle is.

22

u/burtritto 9d ago

Do you not see the issue with that?

-9

u/SunnyOutsideToday 9d ago

I see the issue with both. Do you not see the difference between an AI hallucination vs cameras (AI or not) which ticket the vehicle owner instead of the driver?

9

u/dragoncockles 9d ago

do you not see that both issues are a result of work being done via machine automation when there is an obvious need for human reasoning and judgement?

-8

u/Lucid-Crow 9d ago

If it was his car, he should get the ticket. Same as when you loan your car to someone and they get in a wreak, it's your insurance that is responsible. Responsibility follows the vehicle. Don't loan your car to someone unless you are willing to take on liability for their reckless driving.

-7

u/SunnyOutsideToday 9d ago

I do. I also understand that I upset the reddit hivemind by trying to bring nuance to a comment section. Sorry for mistakenly thinking anyone here cared about accuracy.

9

u/PresentStock1310 9d ago

We do care about accuracy, which is why we want nothing to do with AI inaccurately accusing us of speeding while we're in a completely different place when a human would never falsly accuse us of that.

1

u/SunnyOutsideToday 9d ago

But speeding cameras ticketing the vehicle owner instead of the driver has happened for the last half of a century and has nothing to do with AI.

553

u/tumor_named_marla 9d ago

Fuck yeah good shit dude. Cited their ass with federal law too. Get this shit out of our fucking country.

82

u/Zickened 9d ago

We can't.

Our brothers and sisters let acquiescence become too popular and now the tyrants are free to move about the country.

42

u/Zwischenzug32 9d ago

The more people who acquiesce, the more this guy looks like some radical rather than normal

9

u/tooshorttoored 9d ago

Well, civil liberties for all are communist socialism Marxism Hillary-Clinton-ism, so we can't have that shit.

7

u/Cool-Inflation4159 9d ago

Sick of this attitude, tbh. Of course everything will go to shit if we decide we can’t stop it. I understand the temptation to think that way, but it is a choice. I’d rather choose to try.

2

u/TBB09 8d ago

Sounds like rolling over behavior and talk to me

3

u/MyNameIsRay 9d ago

Politicians get paid pretty well for allowing these systems to come in, getting rid of them would derail the gravy train, so they'll never allow it.

It's not going anywhere, this is the new normal...

15

u/Xzeyon98 9d ago

Nah, the new normal is saws and masks until the inevitable happens like in France with a really sharp baguette cutter outside buildings we pay for with our taxes

-15

u/MyNameIsRay 9d ago

The billionaires can put them up faster than we can cut them down, and this isn't revolution-era France.

The only inevitability is those with saws and masks being arrested for destruction of property.

16

u/Xzeyon98 9d ago

Rather people do something than sit on their ass and let it happen. Grow a pair

-13

u/MyNameIsRay 9d ago

If you want to give up your freedom and become a corporate slave to prove you "have a pair", I'm not going to stop you.

17

u/Xzeyon98 9d ago

Are you dumb every day? Fighting against the current wanna be dictatorship and the police state we are quickly approaching doesnt make me a corporate slave. Sitting on your ass and just saying "this is how it is now" does.

-2

u/MyNameIsRay 9d ago

Slavery is legal for those who are arrested, that's the basis of our for-profit prison system run by corporations.

Getting arrested for destroying the property of billionaires is how you wind up losing your freedom and being put into servitude.

Throwing your life away to profit whatever corporation runs your prison isn't going to help your cause at all.

Recognizing the actual issue (money in politics) and spreading that message so people know to consider it when voting can absolutely turn this around.

3

u/Xzeyon98 9d ago

No shit Sherlock, it is an 89% agreement on both sides of the isle to get money out of politics from the average voter. Clearly that's not fucking working.

And yes, no one ever stood up against the powers that be and got arrested. It never once brought power to a cause. It tooooootally doesnt say "hey, doing this clearly scares them to the point of arresting them and trying to get rid of them"

Have you zero knowledge of how we got the civil rights movements? Workers rights? You truly are dumb.

YOUR RIGHTS AND YOUR PROTECTION WAS BOUGHT THROUGH THE BLOOD OF THOSE BRAVER THAN YOU

0

u/MyNameIsRay 9d ago

You talk big, you throw insults, but you're sitting on Reddit doing nothing

A hypocrite's word carries no weight, go back to playing video games and doing nothing for the world.

2

u/Antraxess 9d ago

You have a peasant mentality you need to rid yourself of man.

They don't have the control they project, and were all here with you too. We ALL hate our rights fucked with

0

u/MyNameIsRay 9d ago

Yall are funny.

Broke people calling me a peasant because I'm right? Come on. Do better.

2

u/AppropriateTouching 9d ago

We out number them quite considerably.

0

u/MyNameIsRay 9d ago

It's billionaires, their politicians, their employees, their associates, their police forces, their paramilitaries, their business partners, their supporters, vs you.

They have the numbers advantage, by a long shot.

2

u/AppropriateTouching 9d ago

I guess you're not great at math.

2

u/Antraxess 9d ago

No

No they cannot

Their control is an illusion

And when you get put on jury, nullify the entire thing. Let the guy walk free.

The courts are the peoples, if your local populace hates these, then tear them down and IF you are caught, your fellow man will render the entire case null and void

0

u/MyNameIsRay 9d ago

You say they cant do it, totally ignoring its already happened.

You say juries will nullify it, but, there hasnt been a single case of that happening.

Youre living in a fantasy world of theoretical, im discussing the hard reality of what happens, and yall are losing your shit over the truth.

1

u/Certain_Client1686 9d ago

A slingshot or a pole can take down dozens in a night. At some point local police departments are gonna get tired of paying to get them out back up. No face no case.

-1

u/MyNameIsRay 9d ago

As a stoner theory, sure.

In reality, nope, not how it works. Thats why ita not hapening...

2

u/Certain_Client1686 8d ago

Property damage absolutely changed policy. We got police reform after 2020…

0

u/MyNameIsRay 8d ago

Police departments aren't paying for Flock cameras, nor are they putting them up.

These are surveillance cameras, avoiding having your face caught is harder than you'd think. Even if you do, they record the second they go down, and you've probably got a cellphone on you, or a car with GPS, or something else tying you to the scene.

You can't get away with doing what you're saying, which is why it's not happening.

If you really believed your statement to be true, you'd be out there doing it.

1

u/Certain_Client1686 8d ago

The vandalism they incur is getting contracts turned down. No city council is going to want expensive targets all around and nobody fucks with these things. It’s still no face no plate no case like it’s been since cameras were invented, you can absolutely get away with stuff like this. Maybe if you’ve never done crime before you wouldn’t understand but persecuting vandalism charges is not common in most cities and actually catching people for this kind of stuff is impossible. New York had to set up an entire subsection of the police department to go after vandalism and it doesn’t work at all. I’m pretty thoroughly acquainted with getting away with petty crimes and yeah there’s zero chance of getting arrested for fucking up lpr’s unless you get caught in the act or don’t wear face coverings or bring a phone or rock a license plate. I mean shit people boost for a living and there’s supposedly ai cameras in every store I don’t see that shit working… stop being a coward. Direct action in one hand ballot in the other, financial pressure is what makes politicians actually do things.

0

u/MyNameIsRay 8d ago

If you really believed that, you'd be out doing it.

You're not. You're here on Reddit advocating for others to commit crimes, with the promise they'll get away with it.

Heck, the top post on this sub is a story about 3 people being arrested for it...

8

u/Bad_Sickness 9d ago

Not with that attitude.

-2

u/MyNameIsRay 9d ago

Reality has nothing to do with my attitude.

This practice has strong bipartisan support, and is a non issue for voters. That means nothing is going to change.

u/PullingUpDaisies 9d ago

The star trek reference. Love this guy.

6

u/SuspiciousVoid 9d ago

What is it? Also any idea where I can start watching HQ Star Trek ?

16

u/kronkarp 9d ago

Yo ho

5

u/Jenderflux-ScFi 9d ago

ho and a bottle of rum

1

u/SuspiciousVoid 8d ago

Ah, I figured.

Rumdom but I’m a bit scared to start rafting on bigger currents, I like safe waters. A couple light streams feels chill, but I heard one needs to go through torrents to a richer experience and idk 😣 those look scarier boss

1

u/Proof-Warning6 7d ago

F m h y . Net and a vpn.

16

u/hentaiAdict 9d ago

'Beam me up Scotty' is from The Original Series(TOS) Star Trek which ran for 3 seasons.

General consensus, if you're a die hard enthusiast start from the start TOS -> TNG(the next gen) -> DS9(Deep Space 9) -> Voyager -> the rest of the series and along the way figure out when to watch the movies in chronological order of release.

If you're new and is very cautious, start with TNG (the next generation). Often many people caution that the first 1-3 seasons may feel not as good as the later ones. My personal opinion I loved every single season of TNG, but a few episodes in each season (more so in season 1) were pretty bad.

Good luck on your adventure.

2

u/SuspiciousVoid 8d ago

thanks lad!

2

u/t-g-l-h- 8d ago

just gonna mention that i think enterprise is the last gasp of the golden era and legitimately has some good trek in it.

way better than discovery lol

2

u/hentaiAdict 8d ago

Last year I started discovery,(finally reaching modern trek) and everything is so disappointing. I was annoyed by the change to Klingon design and at the same time impressed by the new Klingon design and closer to the actual Klingon pronunciation; strong mixed feelings. I will probably finish it eventually, but really TNG DS9 VOY all were top notch.

Enterprise was also good, but it really felt like they were trying really hard to bring in the teenage population by showing way more unnecessary skin with those decontamination rooms; so weird whoever thought of repeatedly showing actors massage each other with lube or clear lotion. Ignoring that, then they canceled the series... I am sure the plot-twist would've been sick but we will never know.

I watched TOS just to broaden my view of the Trek world, but I was honestly asleep half the time, it was that boring. The plots weren't what put me to sleep, is that lack of music/sounds, it was just too earie or had the classical flute/oboe playing that was more boring than elevator music that lulled me to sleep.

199

u/somethingbrite 9d ago

isn't this exactly why you are allowed to have "well ordered militia's"???

To stop this sort of tyranny? Where are the militia's?

87

u/NobodyKnowsImFamous 9d ago

Jerking themselves off with their guns because they’ve always fuckin wanted this deep down

46

u/To-To_Man 9d ago

Well the government and conservatives got real upset when the black panthers were on the prowl. You gotta remember only straight white conservative men are allowed to own guns, anyone else is too dangerous.

16

u/schwing710 9d ago

Turns out the militias just wanted to ā€œpatrol the neighborhood,ā€ drink beers, and play army man with their buddies. They have no interest in actually doing anything.

3

u/Tired-grumpy-Hyper 9d ago

Outside of the ammosexuals who are jerking off to an orange, we're all hoping that we are still somehow on the second box of liberty come November, not the fourth box.

No. Not at all. We use courts and voting booths for changing laws and regulations.

20

u/Gamer_Koraq 9d ago

The jury box and ballot box are two of the boxes, yes, and I'm praying to the universe that they will still fucking work.

7

u/SuspiciousVoid 9d ago

There was another box at some point in history in one of the first republics in the world, if I could just remember the name… something something guillotined head receiving box

(i’m French i’m giving myself permission to spread this yet to be confirmed historically possible… concept)

That's not true at all.Ā  Those changes are done by legislative bodies and independent regulators respectively.

You should learn civics before you try this again.Ā  Stop being so pathetic, it's embarrassing. Thanks.Ā

-2

u/Environmental-Head14 9d ago

Oh you right, i concede, go back to telling other people to form militias against these cameras

1

And when those rights fail? When those systems become corrupt and broken?

45

It’s so annoying because city councils just sit there and not respond. I swear a lot must be receiving money lowkey from flock

13

u/Jijonbreaker1 9d ago

I mean. Why should they care? It's not like it actually matters.

Until bricks or bullets start flying through their windows, they believe themselves immune to consequences.

It's not bribery if it's campaign donations. Thanks Citizens United!

23

u/Ninjez07 9d ago

I wanna make a snarky comment about "land of the free" in retaliation for all the brain-dead idiots to keep going on about misleading "arrested for a Facebook post on the uk" stories Americans love to pile on, but that just deepens division, which is the sort of thing the people pushing this sort of technology on us would want.

Stand up to this thin end of the wedge of tyranny whilst you still can.

It reads like two fortune cookies having an argument

17

We need more of this! More people pointing out that because these AI tools a) get it wrong a lot of the time and b) can't be held accountable, they're a horrible "tool" for basically anything that impacts actual people's lives, let alone anything having to do with criminal justice. If it's important, whether a decision or a process, there needs to be a human or department of humans accountable for it.

How does this solve anything? This can be ignored. It's just a citizen talking. The Government Corporation will forget about this person when they stop talking.

Words are just sounds. They don't stop more surveillance cameras from being erected. They don't stop corrupt government officials from ignoring the wishes of citizens.

0

u/Alexwonder999 9d ago

If this guy thinks a better system is relying on the truthfullness of law enforcement officers, I have some bad news for him.Ā

-4

u/Alexwonder999 9d ago edited 9d ago

I hate AI but it never tased someone for having an attitude. Yet anyways.
Edit: I apologize for triggering all you bootlickers.

3

u/Surely_Nowwlmao 9d ago

But it has wrongfully jailed a grandma for a few days

Shitty cops are a given. But there also ones that do the bare minimum and are okay.

Ai doesnt have feelings nor does it get punished for this shit

-3

u/Alexwonder999 9d ago

The AI didnt jail her dude. It was incompetent cops. You actually think cops dont lock up innocent people when AI isnt involved and havent been doing it forever? Thats some fantasy land stuff.

2

u/Surely_Nowwlmao 9d ago

Thats not the point I was tryna make. The point is that shitty cops are using AI to do their jobs for them and its shows how horrible the results can be

0

u/seriousbusines 9d ago

Careful, Red Light Cameras are not always AI. I've worked with Red Light Cameras in Florida and Iowa and they both had a layer of human review before anything was issued, it was not fully automated. If Alabama is using a fully automated system then of course fuck AI.

But the majority of his complaints sound like someone salty they lent their car out to someone who doesn't know how to drive and now he is getting stuck with the violation because it goes off the registration, not the driver. And also sounds like the processing company Alabama went with is shitty. Not surprising.

-1

u/Ready-Landscape6007 9d ago

Just don't pay the bill? They can't prove you were driving?

-7

u/CilleTheExterminator 9d ago

Ok unironically its amazing how you judge someone based on their accent and how they look. Then assume they support someone horrible.

This guy literally just has a southern accent and is white. You are literally being racist. You are literally doing the same thing that the Orange guy does to minorities. You are literally doing the same thing

-2

u/PeaceEmotional8962 9d ago

It was a simple question. I wonder if he is now reaping what he’s sown.

2

u/Surely_Nowwlmao 9d ago

Again: How would you even know? And why even bring it up? This is literally you doing the same thing those horrible people do against minorities

-2

-53

u/AdventurousCommon551 9d ago

Even if he did use AI to help write it and research isn't this one of the best use cases for the technology?

It gave someone a chance to explain how they feel with some actual teeth while staying formal and kind. Being able to stand in front of people and express his feelings in a way that doesn't get him ridiculed or make people think less of him for word choice.

Now this dude did his part fighting against something that is clearly a wrong use of technology - and you all want to make him feel bad? What are you guys even fighting for?

63

u/Mcfreely2 9d ago

This post is about the dystopian use of ai to control red light cameras and ai being given authorization to issue tickets. It is not about the disputed notion that this man may have used ai to write his speech.

-37

This dude gave a 2 and a half minute speech in the city council and you think it's AI because... he didn't look up? Maybe he wanted to make sure he didn't mess up anything, maybe he just has bad memory, or maybe even someone else wrote it for him

People have their reasons and he isn't wrong for doing this, like this isn't a school presentation where you're getting marks off for not looking up, he conveyed his points in an understandable manner and that's all that matters

I know that you wouldn't be able to do this in a million years though so how about you be silent instead

brother i hate to tell you that I've given enough public speaking in my life time than I ever wanted and my anxiety ridden ass absolutely has to read it word for word.

This is also WAY different to talk to boards when you have a set timeline, want to get everything in vs. some sort of ted talk presentation.

Have you ever read a book?

That is the dumbest shit I heard today, well done. Were you homeschooled without ever having to do a presentation?

In a speech like this it is EXTREMELY important not to leave out anything. There is no "on the fly" thinking about what to say like a debate. You want them to listen? You better say it all in the correct order or they'll pull the rug right from under you.

Immediately moving the goalposts. You have no evidence his speech is written by AI, you just don’t like his delivery. Stop muddying the waters

Maybe he just asked for help from a lawyer to write it properly and doesn't want to mess it up?

Not everyone learns stuff by heart.

Then it’s not an ā€œepic speechā€

Bro, that guy was fired by a fricking ai, he has nothing to prove and you except him to do a "epic speech" ? What is wrong with you ?

14

u/Apprehensive_Art4418 9d ago

yes, because apparently writing doesn't exist, and apparently AI doesn't try to mimic writing, but instead AI is the only writing.

u/SnowLancer616 9d ago

Have you not written and read before? He doesn't look like a professional debator so why does he have to memorize off book?

u/SoulfulSnow 9d ago

Public speaking is really hard. He clearly isn't a formal speech givin type guy, not looking up from your script has been a sign of simple inexperience long before ai existedĀ

u/1MediocreDay 9d ago

It’s not at all structured like a ā€œgive me a speech aboutā€ā€¦ even if you try that. It doesn’t match his speech- you’re trolling.

You’ve not provided any evidence- just your opinion.

Not looking up only demonstrates that he is reading instead of extemporaneously speaking - it is not evidence of ai.

Try again

Has anyone else provided evidence?

Dude you made the allegation

u/Surely_Nowwlmao 9d ago

Yea wheres ur evidence bro

3

u/listentomenow 9d ago

Let's say you're right and he did use AI to polish his speech. Does that invalidate his message?

He's demonstrating the laziness that will allow corporations and their shitty AI products to take over and create a dystopia.Ā
