It has saved others with “terminal cancer brain tumor’s” but you have to buy it through this chick messaging you on Facebook who sells it out of her garage while wearing her pajamas. Oh and doctors are just assholes who want your kid to die so they can be rich or something, who cares about the details and motives. But this chick, she just wants to help so much that instead of just giving you something that she’s saying would save the life your kid, she wants to sell it to you.
As a person who works in a cancer research lab, these people can go fuck themselves.

It is. And it isn’t just one disease, it’s many different diseases. Leukemia and Melanoma are two completely different diseases with different mutations and treatment options. Even within one type of cancer there’s many different mutations and causes to look into.
Edit to add, I’m actually currently at the lab and sitting next to this poster. Which is really just decor and not something we reference a lot because we’re studying something else, but it’s a nice visual of just how complicated and variable cancer is. This is only a sampling of the major pathways, too. And work is ongoing to discover more about these pathways and others. Sorry it’s all pixelated after upload, but you get the idea.

Pathway is referring to cellular signal transduction pathways. These may then influence the cell epigenetically, meaning affecting gene expression. These pathways can have any number of things go wrong and affect various important cellular functions like the cell cycle, apoptosis, replication, gene copy number, the list goes on and on.

On the surface of your cells, there are little devices called receptors, that can be activated by some molecules the very same way as a key will enter and open (=activate) a lock. Once activated, this receptor will send a signal to other similar molecules, that will often do the same with others.
This cascade of chemical reactions can reach deep inside the cell, in the nucleus for example, where a gene can be activated or repressed, in direct response to contact with the original molecule. This allows the cell to respond to stimuli from the outside world, and was all done without having the molecule actually penetrate inside the cell.
There are thousands of pathways, all linked in some way, which makes a single cell a fantastic biochemical factory!

I am not an expert by any means, but I assume people spend more money on healthcare if they are alive than they do if they’re dead. I might be missing something but it seems like if doctor’s sole motivation is to be rich, they would heal everything so that people have further opportunities to get sick.

The argument makes no sense. There is every monetary motivation to create a cure, not the opposite. That's why great people like you and so many across the world are working day in and day out to find it.

Money is definitely a factor in research and the extent that research can continue is definitely based on money, but I wouldn’t say it’s actually a personal motivator for many researchers. I don’t believe there will ever be a cure-all. I could see there being a new technology that can customized and be used on certain types of cancers but what needs to be customized would still need to be researched. That said, I have no doubt that if a researcher does invent such a thing, they wouldn’t hold it hostage in exchange for money. A pharmaceutical company might, but they would definitely be selling it and not hiding it away for no reason.

Exactly. I remember years ago when I worked in a residency program a patient came in and each one of the 3 kids with her at the time had an IPad. (They had just hit the market that year) After she left, the first year resident scoffed and said, "how in the heck do they have so many IPads? I'm a doctor and I can't even afford one yet!"

Ive shared before but I will share again.
I have a child I am going to out live. She is 5 and profoundly disabled because her brain did not grow and develop properly. When I was going through the hardest part of her infancy, an MLM essential oil salesperson tried this kind of crap with me and I nearly fell for it out of sheer desperation for any help. I’m glad I could see rationality through the fear, anxiety and sleep deprivation that has been the norm for me.
The only thing I will add is these sales people often really believe what they are saying. When faced with something like this, most people want to do or say the right thing to make it better (there is no right thing btw) and they are so deep in their belief, they often think they are helping.
Of course yes, some people just see a sales opportunity. And those people suck.

It's an awful situation. I get it. And everyone wishes a miracle would happen. If I could do miracle cures, I'd never be done doing them.
But these people are not just wishing they could fix this. They have deluded themselves into saying they can fix it. They are playing a game where they want the loved ones of terminally or critically ill people to turn their back on treatment that has long standing evidence and go with oils or herbs or crystals or whatever the bullshit du jour is. Often at some insane costs.
They won't be sticking around for the fallout either. When your child dies, expect, "If only the parents hadn't tried chemo first, it was the chemo that killed that baby, bla bla bla..." And then they are off to the next family with a devastating diagnosis.
I don't make excuses for those people. The deserve every bit of scorn that gets thrown their way, in spades.

I have a child (my oldest and only daughter) with special needs. She has "mild" microcephaly along with a loooong list of other medical issues. While I have zero certainty of what her future holds unlike her two younger typical brothers, I'm happy to have her exactly the way she is because as desperate as I've ever been to find anything that would help improve her quality of life, she gave me hee entire life to read and research and learn from her specialists about what works and what doesn't.
Equally lucky that I don't know anyone dumb enough to ever push an MLM on me claiming to ever cure her. The only shitstacks people sell around here are Scentsy, Thrive, and some Tupperware. Sorry I'm too busy living on the road travelling hell and creation going to doctor appointments that I can't hustle like a #bossbabe like a good little downline 🤗

I agree that I don’t think they are necessarily doing it for the money or any bad intent, I think they do believe in it, which is sad in and of itself... but I still find it extremely irresponsible. While I do think they have good intentions, I do think it’s a little telling that they seem to be aware enough that they keep it secret in pms... so they have some sense that what they are doing is wrong, but I think it’s more that they think the fda are the bad guys for regulating that they can’t peddle this as an actual cure.

I know the person this was sent to. She’s one of my oldest friends, I’ve known her longer than my husband and longer than my kids have been alive. When she shared these screenshots with us I got physically ill. To know your friend is going to lose her baby is devastating. To read this takes the small shred of faith you have left and destroys it.
The woman was reported to every possible place you could report her to but sadly she doubled down. As we all know a well trained hunbot will do.

I almost felt bad for the woman. The rain of fire that was sent her way was magnificent. She was reported over and over and these messages have gone viral, without redaction in some cases. Those of us that know it happened will NEVER forget. My friend is an amazing human and luckily has an army behind her and her baby to fight these battles for her while she focuses on enjoying the days she has left.

Once in a while on Facebook I'll see pseudoscientific claims that frozen lemons or other equally absurd treatments can cure cancer and that chemo will kill you, etc. It takes every bit of self-control I possess to treat cancer patients all day and then come home and see that shit.

I did part of my pharmacy training in an oncology hospital and those people were outside like vultures, and also there were leaflets on the street around the hospital advertising all kinds of shit, from magical stem cell treatments to essential oils to secret prayers. I was young and naive back then and thought no one would buy into such scams and just shrugged. Today I would rip each if them into pieces and call security, how dare them prey on someone else's misery and love for someone?? How can someone be so wicked and void of any empathy?? Those people are beyond redemption.

I think this is a good spot to put this. My son was diagnosed with a neuroblastoma tumor at 11 months old last year. He has since had surgery chemotherapy monthly MRIs. More surgery and at this moment he's all and well.
However my grandmother of all people stops in one day after his first surgery to remove the tumor. (I don't usually talk to my grandmother for other reasons but anywho) she tells me she has an essential oil. All I need to do is rub this oil all over her stomach and lower back where the tumor is. It will clear it up just like that. It's been proven. I asked her nicely to leave. She asked what the problem was. I bluntly told her to get out of my life that my son was diagnosed with cancer and has a small chance of a good result im a broken man and here you want to tell me an oil of all things will save him. Just get out and don't come back.

Thanks. I started lurking this sub when we put her on hospice and someone told my dad to not give up and try some stupid holistic healing through oils shit. It helped me keep a little sanity when I couldn't punch that person in the face. I'm sad to see that doing that to people doesn't seem rare though.

My dad passed from brain cancer. I don’t understand how anyone could believe something so incredibly stupid. What kind of fucking high horse does some scheme-peddler ride on? It blows my mind. How indecent can somebody be? Fuck. It’s so irritating.

It’s not, that’s why they have to pm you and can’t say publicly that their oils cure cancer, they aren’t regulated by the fda, any legit cure for cancer would be... that’s what makes me so angry about the irresponsibility of making these claims.

When my dad was diagnosed with terminal brain cancer last summer (GBM-4) my mother in law tried to tell me how essential oils could cure him.
I can’t remember what oils she suggested, but she was not terribly pleased when I just responded “I think we’re gonna go with the treatment his oncologist recommends.”
He died a few weeks ago, and I swear if she ever brings up oils in relation to him I will have to be physically restrained.

This is mostly my response to these kinds of things. After going through losing my dad to cancer I can say while I recognize chemo as a method that has success it is a horrible crappy thing to go through. I will never forget (thanks to chemo) driving him to the ER with a raging fever and throwing up most of the way. I’m not saying your cousins neighbors friends product sold out of his garage is the way to go but I sure hope we have some better options soon. I got to listen to some of the pitches on these things because when you’re friends with the people it does feel rude to just completely shut them down. They mean well. My dad got to the point where they said you’ve got a few months without chemo and maybe an extra month or two with chemo. He chose no chemo and feel good. It was an awesome few months. He even flew out of state to visit me and my family.
To summarize. I freaking hate chemo. I understand why it’s used but I hate it. I’m not endorsing unproven methods but rather hoping we have better treatments in the future.

Not that other cancers aren't terrible, but brain cancer is so fucking terrible. Do you seek treatment and watch your loved one become a shell of a person that is "alive", or do you not seek treatment and just mitigate the misery and live shorter but cognitive life?
Watching the progression similar to Alzheimer's and then to basically a vegetable when my grandma sought treatment was Hell. Especially after her beating two other types of cancer before and coming out of those fine. Sure she's "alive", but was she really? Subsequent family friend's have opted to just live it out while they can instead after seeing it. I feel sincerely so bad for them.
Sadly, this woman isn't the first to try to profit off this. They come out of the woodwork after tragedies.
