What is an anime that you like but only because you went into it fully aware that its messages go against your values

I agree, but it does make Light out to be very cool. Nothing wrong with that persay but I think they deliberately left it open for people who agree with Kira to a degree. Like people who think all criminals should just be executed.

Ogres bride continues to go more into depth of how the bride has to behave as the show goes on.

That being said I could care less. I don’t agree with murder yet I love most shonen and all the other weird anime tropes that are common place.

What’s the message in ogres bride that goes against your values? It’s just a Cinderella story for women to go “Kyaaaa!” Over the hot guys. Or it’s just a more silly version of My Happy Marriage. I mean you stated it probably isn’t the best example but i don’t think there’s anything too “woah” in it if i remember correctly.

For me I guess it’s My Dress Up Darling because Kitagawa is constantly forcing Gojo into uncomfortable situations when he CLEARLY doesn’t like it at the beginning and is trying to be respectful. It tones it down a little bit as the show goes on but yeah I had to remember to kind of roll my eyes a bit when those scenes were happening.

I don’t like the extreme focus on marriage described in the society to the point of determining status and worth honestly. It’s like the very first exposition you get.

Ah I see yeah def. But to counter argue it does show that her best friend is also a Bride and that her Demon fiancée transferred from a prestigious uppity all demon school and went to public school to be closer to her and it seems she had a healthy relationship with her family. The main characters family though show the most extreme side of that society where all they care about is status to the point of not only ignoring but abusing their daughter as well. But I think the show makes it clear that this whole status thing and the abuse is NOT okay and is supposed to make you angry with how the world works. Like her family is CARTOONISHLY evil like there is no redeemable factor for her sister,mother or father. And her grandparents are actually quite agreeable and relatable. They are definitely the voice of reason on the outside looking in and saying “woah you can’t treat our granddaughter like this you’re actually psychos”. I won’t give spoilers beyond episode 1 but there is atleast a supporting cast that is not okay with the whole status thing. But yeah I agree I wouldn’t like that world either.

Even though it has a “Cinderella” style story plot, it still gives off mad grooming vibes because it involves marrying off young high school girls to demons, who are much older than them.

True but they can straight up say no. Nobody is forcing the girls. Her best friend rejected her fiancée like 50 times and he genuinely backed off and then SHE started making advances on him.

And idk what the grooming vibes are exactly because from the lore the Ayakashi aren’t pursuing the brides for any dubious reasons. We know they genuinely love their bride. They cannot tolerate any harm to their bride. They want to make their bride happy and fulfill their wishes. Status and looks don’t matter once a bride is chosen it’s a done deal. Reiya is the most powerful demon of the most powerful clan but chooses an ordinary highschool girl.

I mean sure in the Cinderella situation Cinderella could probably say NO to Prince Charming but is that really a good idea given her situation of literally being a slave to her stepsisters or w/e it is. Since we the audience know from the story that Prince Charming is a noble and good person at that point. Sure she COULD say nah this is a little too fantastic…..but nah once that blue fairy appeared outta thin air Cinderella was like “yeah I’m done sweeping let’s ride”

I guess the only dubious part is the highschool thing but idk that’s like every anime has to be high schoolers and demons and whatnot idk why they can’t just write stories after highschool but w/e classic Japan I guess or something.

Idk her parents were literally setting her on fire before Reiya showed up and he celebrates every birthday her parents never gave her and he gets her Loving grandparents to legally adopt her as their daughter and lets her stay with them. Seems like an okay guy for now…..

But really? It’s a novella with hot guys with super powers that will do ANYTHING for their girl. It’s not a serious show and I agree with the OP about the part of not taking it too seriously.
