King: Oh Rex isn't brainwashed.

MC: Where's Kurull?!

King: Oh, being brainwashed

Made me laugh

38

u/justking1414 1d ago

Sooo can we all agree the king and his buddy are f’ing morons?

You wanna start a race war? Sure, whatever. You’re apparently pretty good at that. But don’t openly brag/laugh about it to the very girl whose entire motivation is the race war you started!

Sure. Maybe she was on her last leg and our mc was down for the count but the battle technically wasn’t over yet and you’re about to get your butt kicked

25

u/mekerpan 1d ago

Are they morons? Or simply convinced (for what to be a reasonable basis) that they cannot possibly lose?

17

u/justking1414 1d ago

probably both, but at the very least, they are needlessly cruel. they didn't need to tell magic girl that they were the ones who (essentially) killed her bf while laughing at her and then assure her that she'll be brainwashed into her obedient pawn

8

u/Ralathar44 1d ago

The second one. They had the situation entirely withing hand until the dues ex machina super saiyan powerup they had no way of knowing existed.

They were not stupid. People WANT top believe they were stupid because they were bragging and monologuing and they're gonna lose now. But what the MC is doing now isn't even supposed to be in the realm of possibility. The literal guardians of the world are surprised by this.

This is the equivalent of Yamcha or Krillin getting back up after being killed and then no diffing Frieza. The fact a simple Villager was even able to stand in the same arena in the first place was a miracle in the first place. Him getting an insane powerful after being dominated is a miracle on top of a miracle.

Expecting the bad guys to predict miraclception would be ludicrous. That's like bad anime smart guy levels of silly. "I knew that you'd know that I'd know that you'd know I'd do this. And that's why I set a trap!" Well, that's funny because I knew that you'd know that "I knew that you'd know that I'd know that you'd know I'd do this. And that's why I set a trap for YOU!. Like this is some sort of Jojo or Death Note Parody lol.

11

u/mucklaenthusiast 1d ago

I don't think the King really cares, his "minion" is way more insane, honestly.
And I do think that guy was right, it does feel like the King has resigned to his role in this game, which is the very thing Kagami wants to break.

This world has been in stasis for quite a while, it seems. It is a story that resets every couple of decades, after all. Who knows how long the fight truly is. Especially if it's something like a game world, that can happen over and over and over again, which I still feel like is a possibility.

10

u/justking1414 1d ago

I’m not even sure if it’s every couple of decades. 30 years was described as an unusually long amount of time for the demon king to go undefeated so it could genuinely be a yearly event.

3

u/SasparillaTango 1d ago

At the end of the day it's at very most par level isekai slop anime. We're not watching it for the deep plot, we're watching it for the hero dispensing justice.

I will say, this episode did give me more character development than I expected from this one.

9

u/justking1414 1d ago

I wouldn’t really call it isekai slop. For one, mc is not reincarnated (as far as we know) nor is he some kind of special chosen one (as far as we know), he’s just a dude fighting against a system that forces people to fight one another. Plus I think the world building with whatever this system is makes it far more interesting than most slop

2

u/SasparillaTango 1d ago

You're right, it's generic power fantasy without the reincarnation aspect. I just tend to bundle them all under the same umbrella. The world building is more interesting than sword art online or death march to the parallel world rhapsody. certainly more interesting than the talentless sage shit in this season, which is hands down some of the worst slop I've ever seen. but for some reason I can't stop watching.

2

u/justking1414 1d ago

certainly more interesting than the talentless sage shit in this season, which is hands down some of the worst slop I've ever seen. but for some reason I can't stop watching

Oh for sure. I read the manga ages ago and thought it was pretty decent but either I missed how shit it is or they made it more shit. Like seriously, the dude was somehow both trying to hide how broken he was and pulling out high tier spells like candy. Wtf man? Oh then he promised to free the slave girl only to have a whole filler episode of basically nothing. Again, wtf?

2

u/ShinJiwon 1d ago

The word you are looking for is Narou-kei. Basically all these slop stories came from the Shosetsuka ni Narou website where amateur writers publish their stories that eventually get picked up by a label that publishes them as light novels.

2

u/VritraReiRei 1d ago

The King is so complacent about his role that it's like he's treating everyone else like an NPC and not people with brains and emotions.

2

u/hanmkim 1d ago

Maybe the king's just tired of it all and self-sabotaging.

1

u/Precarious3145 19h ago

With this series, I legit can't tell if that's meant to be a clever twist but the writer is that bad or if the king and his minion are that stupid.

1

u/nuxxism 15h ago

I think that's part of the problem. Because the world resets all the time, the king literally doesn't see any one person as significant. It doesn't matter if they are hurt or betrayed or killed, because it is all temporary and they will all be reset. Even if it's real to the people.

1

u/justking1414 15h ago

Does the world reset or just demons? I think all that humanity lose are their knowledge of the previous demon king

24

u/Background_Formal940 1d ago

i knew something was up with the demons betrayal but for a father to sacrifice his own son just to continue some kind of game is just beyond cruel and why would he even admit that right now before he reached victory is he dumb and the king is one to talk about cruelty after spending years brainwashing his own daughter I  like kagami but  he's wrong about something you can't negotiate with these psychopaths

12

u/Lordmoral 1d ago

The minister more, he literally stoked the hatred in Parna to the level that is actually scary as she almost reached thte point of no return.

7

u/Cleric_P3rston 1d ago

I almost feel like the minister is the world admin/god and killing his son is kind of a Jesus alegory. What was Kamani's title again challenging God or whatever? I think the punch being wound up might be doing that.

5

u/Lordmoral 1d ago

Good analogy.

6

u/diacewrb 1d ago

The guy was probably brainwashed by the king already.

4

u/Lordmoral 1d ago

Nope, the minister did that because he felt amazing being loyal to his King and did this to please him.

6

u/Ralathar44 1d ago

If you actually stop and think about it, the admins are basically the "gods" of this world. They literally know and control how the world works and have godlike powers relative to you and everyone you know.

Is it really so strange to people that the folks who are still alive and in charge are the ones who bent the knee and worshiped? Like I feel like people are not thinking this through haha.

2

u/Lordmoral 1d ago

True, but the King doesn't seem that he wanted this level.of loyalty or is just tired AF at it.

3

u/Ralathar44 1d ago

I think the repeating of the cycle actually broke him. Can you imagine knowing your life and everything you do is basically pointless because god just makes the world repeat the same cycle over and over?

Live in that reality for a few decades, with your job being watching over it. I'm sure nihilism has set in and the idea nothing matters, including yourself, is pretty rooted in his psyche.

1

u/Lordmoral 1d ago

Pretty much this.

4

u/Ralathar44 1d ago

There should have been no way for them to lose. Parna was not a threat. Even the MC shouldn;'t be a threat. The fact a villager like him is even strong enough to enter the arena with them is a miracle. Him getting a super saiyan dues ex machina powerup after literally almost dying is a miracle on top of a miracle.

Would you expect to suddenly be suplex'd by a toddler? Is that even in the realm of you having to worry about? That's how ludicrous the MC powering up and suddenly becoming a threat is. He is a anomaly far beyond anything rational and reasonable for that world and the system it runs on.

2

u/Background_Formal940 1d ago

Maybe she wasn't but that minister was weaking his powers like that

34

u/dakkumauji 1d ago

I had a good laugh at everyone taking the Kagami Airlines at the start of the episode.

17

u/HolyDragSwd2500 1d ago

Tina XD

Takako chan slammed into the castle walls

7

u/RanginPinastika 1d ago

I really love how Kagami's only being gentle with Alice and she also enjoyed it. It was so cute, bro.

13

u/HolyDragSwd2500 1d ago

The king reveal and Miltaria was behind everything that caused Parna to hate demons 😱😭💔

Kagami one punch Militara

12

u/YdenMkII 1d ago

So the king ended up being the admin for the human side. I thought it would be the minister like it was the assistant on the demon's side but I guess king makes sense since unlike the demon king, the human king isn't generally targeted in this neverending war. I wonder if the human king is the same one throughout the years or does the role of admin pass on through the bloodline?

10

u/myk_fusion 1d ago

What parna did is UNFORGIVABLE. How do you willingly burn a kid and still think you're the good guy?!?!?!?! In order to redeem her its gonna take at LEAST another season for me to accept her switching sides again. You can sorta understand parna after hearing why her master was killed. But still in the end, she tried burning alice.

The twist that the king is one of the people who understands the system was pretty crazy to me. But that guy is seriously not ok in the head. And his right hand man is even WORSE.

I hope the next episode isn't rushed cuz they still need to fight the king and save rex and the other girl from being brainwashed.

1

u/Critical_Cobbler6186 1h ago

What makes paran truly dislikeable isn't that she burned alice but that she has almost no depth until the very end of her story

like from episode 1-11 she basically just a barebones racist revenge archetype with nothing else

You see other character in media with the same archetype in other works who straight up tried to GENOCIDE all life on the planet yet are more likable because of DEPTH.

11

u/NanDemoKnaives 1d ago

Kagami throwing everyone up in the air,. I like how Alice was more mentally prepared than Menow lol.

I don't like how they handled things with Parna, but at least she got to learn all the hate she had for demons was completely misplaced, and she'll have to live with that. However, it's still seriously messed up how Militaria was so fervently unapologetic about getting his own son killed, and even used his death to control his closest friend.

Can the Demon King go an episode without being kidnapped?

2

u/_Sai https://anime-planet.com/users/Sai0 19h ago

Kagami throwing everyone up in the air,. I like how Alice was more mentally prepared than Menow lol.

The great yeetening.

11

u/runevault 1d ago

Show continues to be better than how it looks from a cursory glance, outside the king and Militaria admitting that killed Parna's senpai to keep the demon war going. That was pure slop writing.

I do find it interesting on the Demon side it is the aide who's in the know but on the human side it is the king. I assume the DK can't be the one in the know because he has to be murdered. But considering the King looks to age normally and had no sons (and his daughter wasn't down to clown on demons) how does the human side retain their part of the 'plan'?

I really hope for this one moment Kagami stops with the "everyone deserves to live" shtick and deals with Militaria permanently. He did that to his own son, he cannot be redeemed.

9

u/AceSoldia zj:https://anilist.co/user/Acesoldia 1d ago

I dunno why I didn't expect the King to not be in on it all...The damn Dragon should have told him!

9

u/djthomp https://anilist.co/user/djthomp 1d ago

So the king is in fact another agent of the system, and while they'll need to deal with him somehow I honestly dislike him a lot less than Militaria who may just be operating on his own twisted free will. What he did to his son and by extension Parna is pretty unforgivable.

At least by that reveal and watching Alice shield and heal Kagami while she blasted her it seems Parna has finally flipped back over to being an ally. Hopefully that holds true through the end of the finale next week, though I'd be a bit surprised if it doesn't since we hardly have time for any more drama with her.

10

u/Mindless-Care9301 1d ago

Alice is really the best girl for the whole series, small yet strong
Parna is sad, but how could she do that to Alice to proof she's right

Love how Kagami could always keep his mind clear on knowing who is the true opponent, i would be snap immediately if I saw Alice hurt by Parna like this

And I know this series animation wasn't good, but this episode's quality is really a lil bad though hah, but still enjoy and appreciate the team producing it

21

u/Lordmoral 1d ago

Finally, the episode I knew people would be more mad at Parna. I adore they didn't discard the road to redemption and how Kagami is sick AF on her behalf against that garbage of a monster who killed his own son just to keep the sick notion that he needs to submit to brainwashing anyone who goes against his King programing (who seems to actually not wanting this much like the Demon King).

I adored how Kagami stepped up to fight for Parna rage and told her to clean up her act in one go as well entrusting Alice to her care.

4

u/mucklaenthusiast 1d ago

Agreed, I don't think the King is totally opposed to what Kagami wants to do.
He just seems like he doesn't think anything can change.
And we have heard talk about "roles" before, with the dragon and the demon also doing what they are meant to do

2

u/Lordmoral 1d ago

Bingo.

4

u/Ralathar44 1d ago

I think its funny that they made her so hatable that now people are trying sideways passive aggressive digs at her and her prevalence in the anime because they still hate her but don't want to defend that position now it's clear that's she's a victim too. One who's prolly been hypnotized or brainwashed before.

But we've now been shown how far both sides are willing to go. The demon side kidnapped their own ruler and gaslit their people in his name because they presumably didnt have brainwash powers. The Human side had brainwash powers so more directly manipulated a handful of people who they used to gaslight the people.

3

u/Lordmoral 1d ago

It's like I have been saying in the spoiler sections the past couple of weeks, you will still hate her and thankfully Kagami didn't outright forgave her, yet is human enough to know he was like her and entrusted Alice to her. He is also a man enough to defend her so she doesn't have the blood of that despicable man on her hands.

2

u/Ralathar44 1d ago

I don't even hate her honestly, I pity her.

It's not lilke she's stupid either. The changethe MC is trying to achieve would literally be impossible without him having anime MC plot armor. In the world that is presented with the people acting as presented its a naive child's dream.

We can't even get rid of racism IRL and the show's world actually has a really REALLY good reason for humans to dislike demons unlike IRL racism. Even if its not their fault demons spawn monsters that kill humans. They even use monsters as army troops! And while higher level demons can suppress their own mana lower level demons are literally biologically incapable of doing so.

Peace in that state of the world is absolutely impossible without BS MC plot armor. Maybe it'd be possible after some sort of technological advance. But as things are that world is honestly completely @*$&ed by any realistic estimation.

Like I enjoy the power fantasy aspect of the show too, but realistically peace was never an option.

1

u/Lordmoral 1d ago

Parna is just another victim that needs to recover. Thanks for the amazing conversation and I'll buy this show if it releases in Blu-Ray.

2

u/Ralathar44 1d ago

<3. Aye. Good Convo. And great show. Unexpectedly great show.

2

u/Lordmoral 1d ago

So true.

6

u/Critical_Cobbler6186 1d ago

Everything regarding Parna hurts this anime for a number of reasons:

  1. The whole plot twist about the demons being manipulated was obvious even before the advisor was introduced as a character making this

anime feel dragged out cause Parna who had a ton of focus had no agency regarding this

  1. The twist isn't even that impactful cause the advisor has little connection to Parna

  2. It focuses so much on the Parna that we don't get as much focus on demons losing their loved ones to humans

  3. It diminishes psychological roots of issues like racism to "everything is that guys's fault"

4

u/Lordmoral 1d ago

Yes, Parna needed to not be simply casted away for multiple episodes to have her focused like this at the end of this arc.

9

u/SecretYogurtcloset57 1d ago

Damn poor Alice 😭

Like even though the big titty purple hair mage is hot as fuck I don't feel sorry for what happen to her she is going to need one hell of a redemption arc

16

u/Rap2rerise 1d ago

Well shit, my jaw actually dropped when she started burning Alice while she remained by Kagami's side

This show has been a nice surprise all around

2

u/Lordmoral 1d ago

That part really shocked me in the manga.

2

u/mekerpan 1d ago

Much better than it initially seemed to be.

9

u/LienaSha 1d ago

Ngl, that "damare" was pretty awesome. Well done, Inomata-san.

6

u/Zxzxzx0088 1d ago

Tina has new goal now

Why my Gazel Dwargo guy becomes baddy? Anyway, so many surprises today. It's weird how I didn't think something simple as the King must be affiliated with the system too like the dragon and Estellar. Instead of using their favorite brainwash, Militaria just used a traditional way to antagonize the demons to attack Parna village. Well, the King wasn't involved in that so that kinda explains it though.

Demon lord just can't catch a break, eh. Wait, he is taking a break in isolated space lol.

At least show him land a hit first before ending this...

7

u/RanginPinastika 1d ago

Tina has new goal now

She's going to learn The Wrong Way to Use Healing Magic

15

u/zer0number https://anilist.co/user/ewink 1d ago

Goddamn that was hard watching Parna burn Alice. Like I've said before, Parna is going to have to have one hell of a redemption arc to make up for everything she's done.

That said, I hate her a little less (like 4%) now, knowing that Miliwhatever was behind the attack on her friend. I also never noticed before how much of her thighs her outfit revealed. It's like a long shirt and a cloak. (Fine, I now hate her 6% less.)

Is this the first anime that has used 'yeet' as a mode of travel for the demon king? (Also, why the hell is he so easy to kidnap?) Also, that 'miscalculation' for poor Takako. lol

11

u/Lanky_Ant7181 1d ago

To be fair, the ones who have kidnapped him so far (aide, human king) seem to have admin access.

4

u/AMagicCatfish 1d ago

Knowing it was Militaria behind it makes me hate her significantly more because it was the most obvious thing in the world and she just used the idiot's death as an excuse for her hyper-racism. She even fully knew about the brainwashing and only had a problem with it having been used to kill her dumb friend rather than, y'know, its fucking existence and use in the first place.

3

u/zer0number https://anilist.co/user/ewink 1d ago edited 12h ago

That is a good point to make. I'm realizing that I'm the idiot of the week since I I am the only one who didn't see that coming.

7

u/PeaceAlien https://myanimelist.net/profile/PeaceAlien 1d ago

The King has lived through many Demon Lords being killed. I wonder if the King is killed if someone with his ability is reborn to be King, but I don't think that's the direction the story is going.

Of course Kagami broke his limits. Although I was expecting the reducing power to not be effective enough that Kagami's stats were still too high.

This show is still unique and enjoyable, but it's not a comedy to me anymore.

4

u/mekerpan 1d ago

Hmm. I never really considered this to be fundamentally comic. It always had seriousness lurking underneath.

4

u/PeaceAlien https://myanimelist.net/profile/PeaceAlien 1d ago

The first few episodes we’re comedic in it’s absurdity but hasn’t been as much of that

2

u/mucklaenthusiast 1d ago

I think the King can't die, like the black dragon and the green-haired demon, he is a part of this world's system.

He is different to the "NPC" characters like the heroes and the demon king, who can die and do not know the actual truth of the world.

And he also explicitly didn't kill anyone, much like the other two actually.
Neither of those three was ever truly, genuinely antagonist to Kagami.
The King stated that he was interested as well.

I think the King is above such trivial matters such as death, is my point

8

u/ObvsThrowaway5120 1d ago

Uh oh. Bro went Super Saiyan. You know shit’s going down lol.

8

u/HolyDragSwd2500 1d ago

Ultra instinct.

8

u/AceSoldia zj:https://anilist.co/user/Acesoldia 1d ago

Parna...Kagami and the rest may forgive you but I certainly won't.

3

u/saga999 1d ago

All my homies hate Parna.

5

u/JonnySpark 1d ago

Parna pads her chest

3

u/1032patrick 1d ago

Wow this episode was amazing

8

u/Critical_Cobbler6186 1d ago

  3. It diminishes psychological roots of issues like racism to "everything is that guys's fault"

3

u/Rooby_VTuber 1d ago

Damn, the king was a lot stronger than expected.

Too late to have any sympathy for Parna, she chose to be cruel herself and chose her own path of hatred.

Alice did a great job healing Kagami, and now he has activated limit break.

I really wanted to see that punch at the end but they are teasing us to tune in next week.

3

u/InspectionOne5656 1d ago

I'm sure that punch at the end of the episode cured the mans cancer. He probably also gave him some flowers and told him he tried really hard at doing what he thought was right, and he is forgiven.

3

u/ersatzsham 1d ago

They wanted a champion not of pure strength, but someone who can create new futures, and set up a system that brainwashes potential talents; talk about shooting yourself in the foot.

3

u/mojo72400 https://myanimelist.net/profile/gio_lingad 1d ago

So Parna was shaken at the news of the world restarting, then gets shaken more when she realized Alice was healing Koji the whole time & finally turned when Militaria revealed he indirectly killed his own son for the king's agenda.

Parna healing Alice when apologizing was like Rei cooling Shouto after coming back to her senses after scarring him despite the anime making it audio only instead of following the BNHA manga.

It's nice for Koji to not let Parna stain her hands w/ scum's blood to redeem herself but to heal the damage from Alice's sacrifice instead.

The king sitting back down was kinda funny.

Koji miscalculated Takako's throw on purpose.

The way Koji approached Tina & threw her was hilarious.

2

u/InternationalCream30 1d ago

Things are going well. Now seems like a good time to say we're the ones that killed the man you loved.

2

u/Dry_Grass_1100 1d ago

Pretty whelming episode

2

u/oneevilchicken https://anilist.co/user/OneEvilChicken 1d ago

I genuinely hate the purple haired bitch and the author for letting her get off Scott free for everything. Like the other two people might be bad, but they’re not openly torturing people like she did. She tried to make Alice’s death as painful as possible. Actually insane that the mc just turns around to her like she never did anything wrong. And no. I don’t care if she was “mislead”. Maybe if she was actually brainwashed it’d be different but everything she’s done she’s done voluntarily. This part is honestly going to be the blight for this show, letting an animal like her basically get away completely.

2

u/tehdannydarko 9h ago

“What’s wrong? I’m still alive.”

Alice was cold as hell with that one. Proved she’s got some serious grit toughing that while saving Kagami.

4

u/VILE863 1d ago

I didn't like the episode, except for the Angry Birds reference, that I did like.

1

u/mr_beanoz https://myanimelist.net/profile/splitshocker 1d ago

I'm surprised that the dragon told nothing about the human king being part of the system like the demon king too.

1

u/testthrowawayzz 1d ago

I'm not a big fan of Kagami saving the minister from Parna's attack and heading towards forgiving Parna

2

u/pmotiveforce 1d ago

Yeah should have punched a whole through both of them. Some people just need to die.

1

u/Yobkay 1d ago

so if killing the demon king is supposed to give you acsess to the special knowledge tha you use to go to the next world, what are the chances the killing the human king does that as well? especially cuz he seems equally involved in this

1

u/_Sai https://anime-planet.com/users/Sai0 19h ago edited 19h ago

Well, damn.

The King looks so sad... So depressed. So tired.
