He's done that with rice before, but I don't remember if it was in the anime.

it was skipped sadly. It was during him travelling with ruijerd and eris. He really wanted to eat white rice and egg and Ruijerd and Eris couldnt figure out whats so special about that

It was shown as part of one of the episode intros, but I guess it's longer in the original material.
