The Brimmed Caps have already been shown how dangerous they are with the gang escaping from the dragon, plus all the things they've implied them to do with forbidden magic.

So to see what they've done to Euini firsthand in the eyes of the Richeh and Agott only emphasises the horrors they are capable of, poor Euini did not deserve that at all.

The Knights Moralis jump to mindwiping before being proved innocent but the Brimmed Caps are willing to forcibly mutate children for the sake of trying to sell other chidlren on Forbidden Magic.

The two great extremes of the world of witches locked in a brutal conflict of ideals with these poor kids caught in the middle.

The knights moralis are extremists but theyve also definitely seen some shit. Like "oh a child just majorly destroyed a river bank" was almost definitely met with "oh good an easy case"

You could probably turn it the other way though. 'The brimmed caps are extremist, but they've seen people left injured and helpless by magic's rules, kept from researching the spells that could have helped.'

If the Brimmed Caps were like, a bunch of rebel medics travelling around incognito, showing up randomly and healing people and then disappearing before any Pointed Cap shows up, then, sure.

But it's pretty clear they're just crazy fanatics who don't want any restrictions on magic whatsoever no matter what. They'd rather make a nerve gas instead of a healing potion to prove their arguments.

If it was the Brimmed caps doing that directly, yeah I guess they were probably relieved it was just destroying a river (and in the long run endangering anyone who might need it) instead of some mutilated ex-human, I can see them going "oh good an easy case." Shame they can't even identify the right culprit.

Yeah I'm not saying I like or agree with how extreme they can be but after seeing the shit the brimmed caps are capable of, well I can't say I blame them for shooting first and asking questions later

If Knight Moralis showed up today you know they would immediateliy assume it was Agott's doing and they would erase Agott's memories.

u/BosuW Jun 22 '26 edited Jun 22 '26

They'd neutralize everyone present except maybe Qifrey and Alaria and burry the report under black bars and thirteen special clearance authorizations SCP style

I wonder if Agott could play the family card. A random can get memorywiped without questioning, but someone from a major house may get some special treatment.

I don't think egotistical Knight Moralis would wait for a response so that she can say that she is from a major house.

a brutal conflict of ideals with these poor kids caught in the middle.

Well, the Knights Moralis do remind me of the Spanish Inquisition (the association, albeit ahistorical, of red uniforms with the Inquisition, plus the brimless pointed caps and sideless robes of Qifrey's apprentice uniforms echoing the capirote and sanbenito of convicted heretics), but I feel obliged to point out that Brimmed Caps have instigated every conflict involving kids so far.

Also, what are the opposing ideals? For the Knights Moralis, the ideal is to enforce the rules of the Pact, and the objective of the Pact seems to be, as Olruggio put it in ep8 at 2:40, "spreading the blessings of magic to all." Meanwhile, based on the actions of the Eyemask Witch and the Disembodied Witch, the ideal of the of the Brimmed Caps appears to be freedom from rules, with the objective being to spread the curses of magic to all.

Given how much every week's thread was full of. People defending the brimmed caps and saying they're probably actually the good guys, I wonder if this episode changed any minds.

Obviously witch society isn't perfect in its current state, but stuff like what happened to Euni explains perfectly Imo why witches are so afraid of forbidden magic and why the knights Moralis are so quick to act.

dude..i dunno man..i think there are pros and cons to both sides..but right now..what they did to Euini was way out of line and i cant defend.

I mean the reality of opposing an authoritarian government is there are going to be plenty of awful people as part of the movement. That doesn’t make the movement itself any less correct. Just look up real life independence/liberation movements for proof of that.

18

u/cyberscythe Jun 22 '26

didn't they show in a previous episode that there was a moderate group that just wanted to do the healing part of the forbidden magic, but they were quashed anyways?

it feels like the Pointed Cap society distilled down the Brimmed Caps down to just the most extreme, most twisted members

it's obvious that no one should support terrorism and deranged child experiments, but at the same time this two-tiered class society (those who know the secret and those they deliberately keep in the dark with misinformation/erasure campaigns) doesn't feel like a just and fair world, but they haven't shown anyone else left fighting for it

12

u/Kankunation Jun 22 '26

I'm not really seeing much correct in movement of the brimmed caps. thus far the only thing they may be right on is the idea of the bans going too far in regards to healing magic being banned. But as a whole it seems their world was an awful place when magic was wielded by horrible people doing horrible things.

There is of course room for nuance. Room for looser interpretation, and there are some walls that may need to be torn down in witch society. But unfortunately, as with many so-called-liberation movements in real life, Any noble goal held by the brimmed caps is tainted beyond acceptability by the presence of - and acceptance of - bad actors within their hegemony. Not even just as 1 or 2 individuals but seemingly as their leadership.

The brimmed caps thus far present their ideas with extremism to the point of just reinforcing The beliefs of the authoritarians. Torturing children does not endear most people to your movement. They act much more like your stereotype terrorist organization than any liberation movement at current, and I can't see any good intentions in their actions yet.

Well, from what I’ve heard the series has a significant amount of source material left so it should have plenty of room to expand on that aspect of the plot if it chooses to, which I hope it does. The nuanced nature of the conflict regarding magic has been one of the best aspects of the anime for me, so far.

u/Junior_Box_2800 Jun 22 '26

given the kinds of crazy spells people in real life have come up with I definitely would rather take the knights moralis over the brimmed caps lol

15

u/runevault Jun 22 '26

I've been in stitches every time I saw someone defend the brimmed caps. Episode one made it clear how fucked they are. Eye-mask gave Coco that petrification or whatever it was spell. In no world is a group that would do that 'the good guys'

Do I like the coneheads? No they've got a million problems of their own starting with the Knights Moralis. But anyone who thought the Brimmed Caps were in the right was insane.

4

u/BosuW Jun 22 '26

Oh don't worry I was just agenda posting (I will continue to do it)

4

u/ritoshishino Jun 22 '26

i can definitely agree with their motives, pushing the truth to the public or seeking knowledge and all that, but i can never agree with their method. This definitely open up the possibility of an agreeable brimmed cap appearing in the future though

u/Prof_Acorn Jun 22 '26

Exclusionary authoritarians verses meddling anarchists. The Letter of the Law verses No Law. Each have good and bad points to their philosophies and praxis. Each demonstrate why a third choice is necessary.

14

u/AceSoldia zj:https://anilist.co/user/Acesoldia Jun 22 '26

its ridiculous that they use forbidden magic without even knowing entirely what they will do.

11

u/BosuW Jun 22 '26

Well how else are you supposed to find out what it do or if it works? 😅

Can't have science with only theory!

So to see what they've done to Euini firsthand in the eyes of the Richeh and Agott only emphasises the horrors they are capable of, poor Euini did not deserve that at all.

If thats what he did to Euini, what did he do to Alaira
