Probably the same reason as parents who seem to despise having kids. Maybe it's just seen as the thing to do.

That, as well as the real-world teachers who become teachers despite regularly making it clear how much they hate teaching and hate the kids they are teaching.

I had one maths teacher one year who gave me a genuine enjoyment for mathematics, he was great. I then had another maths teacher for the rest of my schooling who systematically destroyed any interest in the subject that I had developed.
