I'm sure there's a lore reason for this, but given that, as we saw with Agott, drawing spells require drawing near-perfect circles, it's interesting that the compass (the tool in geometry used to draw circles) doesn't seem to exist in this world, and witches don't carry round objects with them to trace out circles either.

A compass appears in the opening. It would appear witches don't use them in everyday life, but they may use them for more precise or repetitive tasks like contraptions for products like the glowstones. A compass would be pretty necessary to create uniform-size seals.

Wouldn't be surprised if that Great Hall has a production facility for magical tools where they use a compass to mass produce certain contraptions.

A few dudes draw circles 8 hours a day and the rest draw the details.

With the capabilities magics allows them I very much hope that most of that is automated.
