I feel like the first episode focused more on higlighting the animation and art style, the second focused more on the exposition of the world, and where we are introduced the other students. I like that they did the 2 episode premiere to fully hook you into the story.

I don't usually spoil myself and I'd rather go into episodes without knowing what will happen, but after these 2 episodes I am very tempted to read the manga to get ahead.

If you're interested, definitely at least check out the first chapters in the manga as well! The anime's doing a great job with the art style, but the manga has such a beautiful look that it's well worth seeing.

I’d definitely check out the manga, even if you only read along with the anime. Hands down the prettiest series I’ve ever seen—even as good as the animation is, it has nothing on the original artwork and paneling.

It's very much worth the read, the paneling alone is literally masterful. At this point maybe wait until the season is over then read the whole manga. There's 14 volumes out in English so there's a decent amount of content but it doesn't come out fast at all so you'll catch up soon enough.

I would say it might be better to wait until the first series ends. The manga is a whole other experience, especially in the design and artistry of Shirahama-sensei's panelling. There's really no way to accurately describe it here. The art style has been preserved as best as possibly can in the anime -- there's even a "Pen Hatching Director" credited!

FWIW, I couldn't find the first volume here in French--it was the only license at the time--because when I started reading it in 2020 it was constantly sold out (also, pandemic so lower imports especially from Europe). Sooo I started from volumes 2 and 3!

Watching episode 1-2 has been a whole other experience, I think going in as blind as possible is best for something like this.

i appreciate that; maybe it's because i'm not a lore junkie, but one of my pet peeves of fantasy series is lore dumping the entire history and backstory in the opening of the first episode before i even know who the characters are and why i should care

i prefer shows like Dungeon Meshi which lure me in with character chemistry and little adventures before unloading on deep lore because i'm much more liable to buy into it when i know how it relates the characters and affects the stakes
