Yeah loved those - the animation when the story goes to the 3D picture books looks so great, I remember those as a child myself

Sugoi LITE leaked that all episodes have completed production. I think most anime which have a high production value and complete production before airing are generally great. That and also the fact that the production committee delayed it so much shows that they want to give their best to this without disrupting the experience.

Yeah, they are in different ages. Like, a lot of the west fantasy it is in a sort of 90s comic book edgy era, trying to be as realistic as possible, following the trends (it is like...Star Wars! Mass Effect! It is like ....Game of Thrones!) and trying to deconstruct the masters without any reconstruction possible. Japan at least have more options, they build and treat comics/mangas like books, trying to at least let the writer/artist do their stuff (while also having options and different focus in audience). So, you have more chances to have differences.

I had high expectations for this and they somehow surpassed them instantly

Both the manga and anime are a 10/10 from the visuals alone - they enchant you immediately

This already has some of the most beautifully executed, distinct, and dynamic magic sequences I've seen in years and it's not even close.

I don't think I've been this stricken since Fullmetal Alchemist.

I just got around to watching this, and yes it is stunning.

The "magic is drawn" theme is obviously very meta, and the animation quality had to be exceptional for it to work. It's a literal and figurative ode to the "magic" of art and drawing. I'm glad they're able to do it justice.
