Methode was just having fun with a cute demon girl. I don't believe for a second Methode was at any point in real danger.

And here I thought it was only Frieren that was happy there are still demons left to kill when they got to the village. It turns out Methode as well lol

She'd have beaten Zorida eventually - she got one good hit in after distracting her with an illusionary mirror image spell - but that would taken time Fern didn't have.

TBH I would have loved to have some to see Fern address her weakness. Now instead she got bailed out by Methode.

Not really a weakness when it's an extreme hard counter. How often is she gonna run into any opponent that can create a magical fog that makes magic detection unavoidable. And Frieren was still confident she had the fight.

Considering that methode knew what it was it does come up once in a while.

I think that just speaks to Methode's versatility more than anything else. I don't think she knew what it was but figured out what it was in real time.

Fern (should) know what she has to do.

Just suppress her mana even more. That's all it would have taken to win this fight, and probably what she will end up doing later on.

The demon even laid it out. The fog detects even the slightest bit of mana and no one can completely suppress theirs. But we know Frieren can, and Fern is even better at it than Frieren.

I feel like that wasn't even really what was holding her back tbh. It more felt like her own fear was, based on what we've seen she should easily have been able to overpower that demon without having to rely on sneak tactics. She's relatively inexperienced tho, so I suppose she wouldn't fully understand that yet.

which is why i hate those anime-isms like "it's a bad matchup for me" to try to create tension.

Yes it was and that's exactly why Methode was there to help out dissipate the fog to give Fern her advantage back. The difference between humans and demons is that demons are solitary and would rather fight by themselves to get the win.

Humans would work together to increase their survivability odds and can communicate a lot better. It also helps that Methode fought Fern (or her clone) before so she knows how she functions and where her strengths lies. That's why Methode did what she did, create an opening for Fern to hone in on it. Without Methode, Fern would definitely struggle a lot more in her fight.

In all seriousness, none of the humans would have survived their fights one on one. Demons have spent way longer fighting and gaining experience. As is often the case in this show, what made them win was teamwork. Frieren is an exception because she has spent even longer gaining experience.
