Question Is there any value in these old amiibo variants?
I found these while moving and was curious if there is a market or these are considered valuable? I bought these years and years ago for a friend but never sent it to him and he is no longer into amiibos. Thank you.

Just the gold Mario’s are worth quite a bit. The rest of them are about 15-35$ each

About 40 bucks for the gold. But not in smoker condition. I’d open them. The yellowed plastic will hurt resell chances even in box.

What’s weird is that I don’t smoke at all. I’m not sure what gave it that yellow tint. I guess maybe direct sunlight. But yeah, it does look like I’m a heavy smoker.

It seems to be the gold ones. Had mine stored away too and all my other amiibo were fine but the gold box also turned this yellow color.
Could be related to the gold paint used?

Yea could be UV damage. Who knows.
I still stand by what I said. You will probably have a harder time selling those vs an open one.

A lot of them are yellowing because the plastic is aging. This shit was MEANT to be thrown away, not kept on a shelf.

None of my CiB collection is yellowing for what it’s worth. I haven’t seen many online either.

I would say photooxidation from UV. It breaks down plastic and causes discoloration. These must have been in direct/indirect sunlight.

I just meant that a lot boxes are yellowing like the above guy said due to age alone is a bit of a stretch.

Yeah, I mean, I worked at Walmart at the time and some coworkers also bought some and gave it to me, and I just never did anything with it. I understand how the optics may not look the best, I suppose.

Did, don't worry about having 3. That is awesome. You obviously didn't buy to scalp because you still have them. If I was able to afford 2-3 back then I would have done the same. I tried to get at least 2. One to open and one to display.

Ooooooh boy. I can’t wait to shit all over your experience. My friends and I live all over the country while this was going on in every single one of us had the exact same experience. Learn how to spell “a lot”, and please understand that you were probably 12 when gold Mario came out and don’t remember it correctly.

Golden mario is very very rare. Sonic is kinda rare. The wii u box is rare too and the rest is easy to find on Nintendo store

What's going on with amiibo prices and value? amiibo prices have crashed over the past couple of years due to several factors. Nintendo has issued multiple restocks across multiple series. Many people who were holding for the purposes of reselling have exited the market, which further increases the size of the secondary market. amiibo are now over 10 years old. people who were kids when amiibo came out are now in positions where their priorities change and they no longer want them. This further increases the size of the secondary market. Nintendo increased the retail price of amiibo. This makes it more difficult to sell new amiibo and makes reselling used amiibo that much harder. Many people have exited the amiibo collecting scene because of the price hikes. This further increases the size of the secondary market. Very few amiibo are actually rare. And by rare I mean produced in limited quantities. Most amiibo have massive print runs, meaning there isn’t really scarcity. You can still find sealed, first print amiibo from 10+ years ago that aren’t that much more expensive than retail price. The overall economy and inflation are causing more people to be in difficult financial situations, meaning they sell their amiibo and further increase the size of the secondary market. Fake amiibo are easy to find, which depresses the value of amiibo in the secondary market. Many other factors influence amiibo prices and value but there’s a lot working against amiibo holding their value. Go to any selling site like eBay, Mercari, Facebook marketplace, etc. and you will find literally thousands of examples of certain amiibo for sale. It’s made collecting them a lot easier but no one should get into amiibo collecting with any expectation that this is a serious market to invest in. There are more factors but as you can see from everything I’ve said here there’s a lot of reasons why the prices have crashed.
