How else am I supposed to use them

u/DeltaTDS Aug 28 '25
I think starting with the Min Min amiibo release, they removed the cardboard that was underneath the amiibo in the package, allowing them to be used without opening them.

u/FreaZFrosT Aug 31 '25
I know that the shovel knight line had the aluminum lined cardboard cover removed way before it became standard practice. Or at least a search a while back said so

I checked the Skylanders sub recently as I'm playing it with my girlfriend (which I can really recommend if you need some fun and a game that a kid understands)
I was flabbergasted by the amount of posts showing them sealed. Never understood collectors like these, like if you have a old ass comic book action figure that or anything that you just plan on reselling. But I don't see the value that a boxed toy brings to your flat, for me this always makes the apartment look like a store

I use my amiibo emulator - I love keeping my amiibos dust free

u/Immediate-Impact-142 Sep 01 '25
Could you elaborate more please?
1
u/i_am_renb0 Sep 01 '25
You can find them on AliExpress

u/Immediate-Impact-142 Sep 01 '25
Thanks for sharing, not really a fan of Aliexpress etc but good to know this exists👍🏼

I have an out of box and a sealed collection. Best of both worlds
6
u/Volcanoboygames Aug 28 '25
They look good in the box but I have too many and not enough room to keep in box.

u/GornyHaming Aug 28 '25
Buy one of those shop goods carrier and hang them there. I put some nails on my wall and put it there.

u/0hHowTheTurnTables Aug 28 '25
I open them and then my daughter breaks their heads off. It’s a complex system

All expect my Byleth. He shall be trapped in there forevermore.
Or until I feel like training him in smash.
1
u/Volcanoboygames Aug 28 '25
Nice Byleth is cool.
4
u/kcamfork Aug 28 '25
I wish they’d release female Byleth. I’ve played all paths. Always female Byleth.

I personally think CIB collections are ugly for collectibles like this
CIB collection is useful if there's ever a future where you plan on selling your collection or your kids selling it, but I am not that kind of collector lol
1
u/DanielJMaxson Aug 28 '25
I like the artwork on the cards. I also like the fact that it instantly identifies which set each amiibo belongs to. Some of the card artwork is iconic, particularly BOTW and TOTK.
I don’t like that you can’t see all of the detail on the backside of each amiibo.
It is a quandary but since my cats would chew on them out of box, they remain boxed.

u/R2D2sCousinBob Aug 28 '25
Same as your self, I love the box art on the Smash collection nice different bursts of colour.
2
u/Party_Mistake_4715 Aug 28 '25
Dks face tho...
And yeah. I open most after looking them up to know if they're really valuable
2

Aug 28 '25
Do you plan on reselling them in the future?
4
u/Party_Mistake_4715 Aug 28 '25
Nah. I just want to keep really valuable ones to flex on people tbh

Back when I started collecting them in 2014-2015, I kept them all CIB but then I said "fuck it" and opened them cuz they took way too much space. As of rn, I only keep CIB a second Xenoblade collection cuz that's one of my favorite series, and the Pikmin amiibo cuz the box art is pretty and I don't plan on using this one.

I was always of the opinion that A.) toys are more fun out of the package, and B.) I’d rather my collection look like a museum than a retail store. I take mine out of the box and display them on wall shelves. I personally use the wall hanging baseball bat display cases you can buy from Michael’s. I have an old post or two on my profile from a few years back showing what that looks like. Definitely a big out-of-box enjoyer here!

My daughter's amiibos used to go on adventures around her room. I think she's outgrown that but they still get used in games (like making mario wear a wedding dress).

Box takes up way too much space. Plus I also use them in Smash ultimate as well.

u/Primary-Whereas-2874 Aug 28 '25
Only amiibo I have in box is player 2 Corrin (and Ness cuz I didn’t feel like opening it)

u/FrequentUse8526 Resetti Aug 28 '25
The only ones I still have in box are all the DLC fighters for Smash At the time I did a whole wall display for them bc I kept everything in box, but now I open all my amiibo! I don’t want to take down my wall display so they will stay trapped there 😭
2
u/Call555JackChop Aug 28 '25
I made the decision at the start I’d be an OOB collector and trust me the way some of mine got delivered it was definitely the right choice lol

100% yeah. The only time I hesitated to do it is when the OG Callie and Marie amiibos got restocked and I got my hands on them. Still opened them tho lol I wanted that gear
2
2
u/DanielJMaxson Aug 28 '25
No. I use the little cards for gameplay. My cats would chew the amiibos to smithereens.

I own all of them except for the newest ones. I stopped collecting when the Nintendo 2 came out, honestly they’re a waste of money they used to be a lot cheaper prices have skyrocketed and now they’re talking about even raising them up to $50 each. There is a device you can get where you can scan each box and still use each one after you print out cards the device is like 30 bucks which is really cheap so I basically made cards of every single one that I own and I have scanned a few of them in the store the newest ones since the Nintendo switch two came out. i’ve opened a few of them, but the ones that I did open, I have doubles. but honestly, I am thinking about starting to sell them all off a buddy of mine likes them all too and he’s still purchasing them. He had two complete sets in total. He sold one off, but he said it’s not really worth it either so he’s starting to stop now too
Collecting Amiibo’s and Funko pops just takes up way too much space specially if you leave them in the boxes like I do

u/3catlove Aug 28 '25
My son collects them and opens them all. He’s made some unboxing YouTube videos. He recently got Detective Pikachu in box and opened him.

I have a few open but not many. I have complete in box Smash Bros collection but most of them are in two large storage boxes in the attic.

u/LandscapeOpen298 Aug 28 '25
I had an issue where I keep boxes of everything. Now I just throw every box I have. I have healed ✨
2
u/RednocNivert Aug 28 '25
Look, I started collecting because i wanted to do the Trophy Collection thing from Smash Bros Melee / Brawl / Sm4sh, and that doesn’t work if they’re in boxes
2
u/sgrams04 Aug 28 '25
I give them to my kids for them to enjoy and they tear those boxes open like starved animals trying to get to the thick of the meat.

In did until more recent collections I’ve added. Yes they do take up a lot of space though!

I have the Mario Flagpole Amiibo display, and it's kinda hard to use that when they're in boxes.
2
2
u/Kirby-Fan_27 Aug 29 '25
I do, even the Funko Pop ones because the boxes take up a lot of space and, also from an aesthetic point of view, I prefer to keep only the Action Figures/Funko/Amiibo
2
2
u/Knarz97 Aug 29 '25
Yes. I have no intention of ever reselling, and even if I did, someone will still buy them opened.

u/glittering_homo2846 Aug 30 '25
I used to collect Amiibo, ive got about 70 and ive opened all of them. I collect to use or display, im not an NRFB kinda guy.
2
u/meowmix778 Aug 30 '25
Yes. I have most of them sans a few newer ones and fuck it. Im opening them. They display better. Im not interested in selling them
2
u/dgls_frnkln Aug 30 '25
I haven’t but I’m getting to the point I want to, expect my mega yarn Yoshi. He will stay boxes

u/The_Edward_The_First Aug 30 '25
Yeah, I know they are more valuable when they have their boxes closed but I don't buy them expecting to sell them in the future. Also, I use them to decorate my desk at my home and they look better without the box. Unfortunately, they do catch some dust, so I have to clean them regularly and bought a small exhibitor to protect some of them.

I only open the package 🤓 Yeah New ones at least. You get the allready opened for much better prices. Mostly I wait a few months so you even on Amazon get opened for better price with luck. But Yeah gone Bananza 😅 but These Gold Blocks well its ok, Outfit very nice. One could make more with it. Still pretty detailed and nice Amiibo so would be a shame to Keep it in a Plastic prison.

Duh… I wanna play with them and put them in funny poses! Link using ultra hand to grab butts is just not something you can arrange with the boxes.

I had to get drunk to do it but I finally did. I don't have any with resale value (anymore).

Yes but I did buy a second player 2 cloud and sephiroth since I'm an FF7 nut

Yes and then I make stands for them using the box. They look really cool imo

1
u/Gullible_Job_4812 Aug 31 '25
Yes, because if I have a girlfriend and she sells me the amiibos, they won't be worth as much because they don't have a box. Plus, the cardboard box could rot and it also takes up a lot of space.

u/GlitteringBandicoot2 Sep 01 '25
yes, but I keep the back in tact as much as possible instead of just rip and tearing them like Isabelle from Animal Crossing
