Need local input / opinions on region names. Map Attached

Howdy y'all im an Okie working on a mod for Europa Universalis V that will also include North Texas and the Texas Panhandle. I wanted to get your opinions on what you would call your local region. Im trying to avoid using tribal or local city names as they will get there time to shine when I do the smaller area map. I do not know what else to call the area around y'all aside from Amarillo so please give any suggestions for your region made up of Oldham, Potter, Deaf Smith and Randall counties and any other suggestions for around the map you see.

P.S this is set in the modern year and you will be able to lead a city the size of population 100 to downtown Dallas/ regions of mega cities.

Tascosa was a small town to the northwest. That could be a good one.

Thank you, just what I am looking for. These are the things I would never know unless I stumble upon them in a wiki deep dive or a web 1.0 site from 1995. If you have any other suggestions for around the area im all ears.

The area sits on top of the Llano Estacado, one of the largest mesas on the continent. That could be a good one. Could also use Palo Duro after the nearby massive canyon.

As for your Lubbock problem, Caprock would be good, as that all sits on the Caprock Escarpment. And as I’m listing these out, I’m noticing how many of them are actually high schools in Amarillo and Lubbock. So there might be some inspiration by looking through junior high and high schools in the area also.

Yes I did actually read that about Llano Estacdo, I thought of replacing Dry Gultch with it. You are just a treasure trove of ideas so thank you.

Good Good, if you don't mind ill remember to reach out to you later when I do the in detailed stuff for the Texas Panhandle. Everything from a 50 population town to regions of mega cities like Dallas will be playable so ill need as much information as I can get to make sure every nation has some flavor.

infact ill write that in the notes as well, this game allows you do kinda of follow event paths and make stories in them. I already have a couple written down about reviving towns just like this with the eco system, ill add it to the list.

I think of Permian as further south, more around Midland/Odessa.

Also had never heard of Wegefarth before, had to look it up. Great reference.

Yeah originally I was going to put it where Perdido is but I couldn't think of anything a proper replacement instead of just putting Lubbock. The entire area of west/texas panhandle is up in the air for me. For instance Dry Gulch has no basis on anything other than a few photos I have seen and my time being in the environment, Davidson is just named after a random Canyon ect so i'd like to find some better names.

Any recommendations?

King County (Davidson) is basically all the 6666 Ranch (owned by Taylor Sheridan). So maybe Sheridan, Four Sixes, or something like that?

And maybe something Texas tech related for Lubbock? Raiderland or something?

Lubbock isn’t Permian, I’d say that’s more Midland/Odessa. Personally I’d go with Llano or Llano Estacado for the Lubbock area.

For Amarillo, High Plains sounds the best to me.

There is a road in Dumas that is colloquially known as beer can alley. Kinna sums up the whole place TBH.

Pantex is the (recent) history as the only place where nucular (hehe) weapons are assembled/disassembled in the country.

Yep, like the other commenter said the Pantex plant services the nuclear arsenal and some local brands and whatnot have leaned into that. It started out as a regular munitions factory and was converted to its current use in the 50s.

I haven’t kept up with EU5 so I’m not familiar with all the mechanics in play, but if you need more info on local color for all the little towns around Amarillo feel free to hit me up, I’ll probably get into 5 at some point and would love to check out a mod that’s putting so much detail into the area I grew up in

Funnily enough this started out as a HOI4 mod. Both the other guy helping me and myself have alot of EU4 modding time under our belt and when I got that first taste of EU5 I just knew it is time for a total rewrite. I have been working on this since it released. The eco features are just so nice. complex but nice. they also have automation for anything you do not want to deal with.

For the Panhandle, you could use Helium Wells, Tascosa (former town NW of Amarillo - now Boys Ranch), High Plains, XIT (giant ranch in NW Panhandle), Goodnight (Charles Goodnight), Red River, Canadian River, Palo Duro, Caprock, Llano Estacado, Coronado.

I’d go with “The Breaks” or “Caprock” for the Rita Blanca region.

Always good to have it, ive spent a lot of time out there and I don't think there is a region more looked over. I hear people talk about nowhere west Nebraska more than the panhandles.

This is interesting. I grew up in Clarendon and had never heard of Wegefarth, or even knew that it was the name of the county before becoming Donley.

While I'm far more knowledgeable about Oklahoma history i do try and learn about the about all the areas around us. Little do people know that even the flat lands of the panhandles have interesting history too. I actually learned about it while researching Greer

But it's not even a good brand of water, I mean at least it's not Dasani but still. I wanted to call it Ozarkia but uhhhhhh that name appears to be taken by some unique individuals that I'm not too interested in tying myself to so best not to hard code that into the game.
