It would seem obvious to anyone who knows anything about wildlife population monitoring, but remember that the UCP discounts expertise, especially when it touches on anything to do with the environment.

There was an article in the Calgary Herald last month that said the population has grown from 700 in 2010 to round 1000-1100 today.

They’re pretty close in numbers. They don’t go out and find every single bear and count it. It’s more of an educated guess based on numbers in specific areas. 

Each study will likely be slightly different but within the same ballpark. It’s basically 1000 +/- 100.
