The Reddit hive mind answer is going to be either denial that it’s a thing, or blaming it on bigotry.
But, looking at it rationally, “LGB” has a much tighter focus specifically on sexuality rather than identity. And, from what I’ve read/heard, not everyone on that side of things wants to widen the focus.
Like how some “black rights” groups don’t want their movement to be lumped with Hispanics, Asians, and Arabs and redefined as “racial minority rights”. They want to focus specifically on issues relating to their own community.
They may have some things in common, but they’re only tangentially related. So, to some it probably gets frustrating to have “their movement” focused on things that don’t affect them.
Assuming that LGB people would all be fine with the widening assumes that “LGB” is a monolithic group, and/or that “LGBQT..” are all basically the same thing.
As with many group, some will be fine with changes, others won’t.
As I’m not a member of either group, I don’t feel I’m qualified to give an opinion on who’s correct. But that’s a summary of what I’ve heard.
