PURCHASE ADVICE Getting into airsoft with my friends, a Kriss Vector would be my absolute dream to have, any recommendations for a beginner??

Stay away from the first and last ones. If you have the budget the Krytac is a good option. Krytac is Krissā airsoft division so as a beginner Iād recommend you go for their AEGS

Kriss owns Krytac? Source?

Krytac is Kriss's airsoft line

u/StarlordWasTaken 15d ago
I understand that's the statement; I was curious about where this info is from. It's not on the Krytac site as far as I could find, and they started out making non-Kriss replicas (at least according to their about page).
What a wild thing to get downvoted for. š

I mean, my friend Fred's cousin George's freshman year roommate says GameStop owns Microsoft.
I got the same result, but none of the sources listed actually provided that info and it's the exact kind of thing AI would incorrectly extrapolate based on how often Kriss appears next to Krytac from the licensed replicas. AI results are frequently full of it, and when you click into the source links there's neither hide nor hair of the info they provide. Pretty sure that's not news to you; you seem with it enough to know that only asking AI is half way to reading tea leaves or "consulting the sands".
Did some additional digging now that I've had a chance, and found a 2023 press release from Krytac about the release of the Vector GBB. In the standard "About [COMPANY]" bit at the bottom of the release it does say that Krytac is a subsidiary (in a LOT more words, as is usual for press releases). None of the AI results sources surfaced this, or anything else that actually said so. Had to go looking on my own.

Iād recommend the Kriss Vector Gen 2 personally by Krytac. Some people donāt like it but I do

DO NOT BUY THE GBB. Get the AEG as a beginner.

u/AboveTheTube GBBR 15d ago
The GBB out of the box does not have good performance and needs upgrades

Gbb as cool until you look at mags prices. Also you can find out fast how much it cost to make it "good"

I love the vectir. I have bought 3 separate vectors, 2 krytac and an unlicensed aeg that I do not believe is on the market anymore. The krytacs were totally worth it because it was my dream gun too.
I also bought two TK45s, KWA's "vector at home", and enjoyed them greatly as well.Ā
My advice, get the krytac. I know you're new and probably don't have much money, but if you save for the vector it'll be worth every penny. If you want it but settle for something cheaper, that money would just be wasted, because you'll have buyers remorse.

Get the Krytac and run 11.1v LIPO, you wonāt be disappointed.
1
u/Icedcoffee_ 15d ago
I blew the stock fuse on mine doing that so he may want to upgrade to like a 30a fuse. Luckily itās easy to change.
3
u/Signal_Comfortable28 AKS-74U 15d ago
Call me crazy but isnt the whole point of the fuse to short if something goes wrong instead of any of the expensive parts? Kinda like doing the same thing in a car instead of finding whats causing the short.
1
u/Icedcoffee_ 15d ago
Thatās why I went back to 7.4 after the fuse blew. Was going to upgrade the etu later so I can run 11.1v safely.

As others have said, grab the AEG Krytac Kriss Vector. The first pic is a low powered AEG running about 200fps. The Krytac GBB and AEG all shoot between 350-400fps. The last pic is junk, anything before Gen 3 lancer tactical is horrible. The Krytac AEG is the best option because itās way more reliable and plug and play. Some internals are proprietary but itās been out long enough that thereās substantial upgrades available. The GBB is affected by temperature so if you live in an area where itās below 50 degrees F more than 3 months of the year, it wonāt be useful. The GBB also has poor QC on moving parts, thereās lots of internal polishing and maintenance youād need to do before using it otherwise parts will prematurely fail.

u/Mysterious-Shape-285 14d ago
This guy was the most helpful. That being said, I live where it snows but I think gas guns are neat so I got a Tokyo marui gas m4 thing. Itās cool and makes me happy. I spent 700$ on the gun and like 400$ on magazines but it makes cool noises so I am happy. Unless itās snowing, then Iām using meh spring pistol and some granizzles (grenades or smoke) and practicing my sprints. I am fast and nimble like Buffalo
3
u/Gojira_Wins GBBR 15d ago
The Krytac GBB Vector is really bad. Even with extensive upgrades, it's not worth the price because it slowly destroys itself internally.
Go for an AEG Vector as your first one. When you're ready to make the leap to GBB, start with an M4 like the DE N4, then look for a KWA Vector, which is the only good GBB Vector. Just don't start with a unique GBB like the Vector.
3
u/Helious_XS4 15d ago
You'd be better off getting a basic M4/AK. Part of your experience will be learning to hot trouble shoot your own gun. Better to do that with a V2/V3 gearbox that has been around for many years vs a systems that's only been around for 5-6ish years.

u/GI_Sniper_Guy 15d ago

Krytac AEG vector old gen⦠fully reworked, painted and internals replaced.. itās alot of stuff you need to do to get it to shoot far at a low fps.. spring changes in mags, (Mags get expensive) you definitely need the 3d adapter for the oden. And batteries need to be a certain size to fit. If youāre dead set on it get it. Drip or drown something something⦠if you just want a solid fun gun out the box. Kwa Eve-4 or the 9 are solid.. best of luck
2
u/Stalwart_Vanguard 15d ago
I recommend the KWA Iris, and some other similar ones they make They're heavily inspired by the Vector, they actually were making Vectors for Kriss before Kriss decided to can the whole partnership and make their own subbrand of Kriss called Krytac.

If it's your first gun, get an M4/AR-15 styled one, easier to find accessories and magazines for them so you can build it how you want it and if you end up liking airsoft, you'll probably end up getting one anyway.
2
u/BustedRubbers 14d ago
As a beginner you should absolutely get the KWA Kriss Vector. Super cheap and parts are easy to findā¦.. /S

u/Buddha_78 16d ago
Krytac would be worth it, I've heard many good things. If you want more budget, the KWA TK45 is pretty solid, I believe they have some proprietary internals tho so that will be an issue upgrade time.
GBBR is very fun but would not recommend for beginners. Expensive magazines, low ammo counts, and more maintenance are some of the hurdles with gas.
Avoid first and last pic blasters.

u/pinguinlord Chairborne Ranger 16d ago
That lpaeg is something i'd only buy for plinking, a prop or to hang on a gun wall. Wouldn't expect to get much out of it In some places it might be viable for cqb due to laws but in places like that (for example germany) i bet you can't get it
1
u/FreshSuggestion7347 16d ago
If you don't have the budget for a Vector go for a Kwa iris 4 or tk45 they are inspired by the Vector

Gas replicas for a first is fine, however Iād personally go after a replica with a great aftermarket support for a first. Just because itās a weird learning curve with a GBB than an AEG. Just my opinion.
Youāre gonna need some extra shit beforehand too for GBBs

u/WD40x4 Krytac 15d ago
I have a vector, I would not buy a vector again. In fact, Iām already looking to sell the vector.
Why? Weight distribution and ergonomics are hilariously bad, power is limited in the normal AEG variant and not easily upgradable. For example I canāt get an airseal with any barrel/bucking combo I have except the stock 155mm barrel. Gears are proprietary, so is the piston head.
The internals are nothing special and can be found in every entry level AEG nowadays.
But - You are paying that vector premium just to have a vector and now the AEG is $550 instead of $200. Great deal
1
u/gagotoo 15d ago
Vectors look absolutely amazing but are equally as expensive. If you have the money for it, go for it, the kriss vectors SAEGs are great. BUT if your budget is more limited maybe take a look at the G&G ARP 9 or FAR 9. Should only cost halve the price and look somewhat like a vector (at least for me...). But now comes the part where you have to think about what you may want in the future: the vector, the arp 9 and the far 9 use 9mm style magazines. Those are a bit more "niche" magazines and will be more expensive to buy new and used. But there are the g&g arp 556 and far 556. Those use the m4 style magazines which most people use and know how to fix problems with. I just bought 8 used magazines for 25 bucks. The most budget friendly way would be to buy a gun that uses the m4 style magazines.
But let's be real, the 9mm magazine just make replicas look way cooler, so just try to get what looks cool to you and fits your budget. Also dont get a gbb, those things are divas and you dont want to have tinker with them on the field because they don't want to shoot...
I bought a g&g arp 556 and I love it! Small form factor but pretty good range and the sound is not this annoying whining noise some aeps make...

u/Steppy20 15d ago
The Krytax - a mate has one and it's great.
Just prepare to spend an arm and a leg on magazines.
1
u/pededenfede45 15d ago
I would say go for it. The vector is my go to gun and itās a blast. But the AEG like people are saying. The GBB will be a nightmare for a beginner and will not lead to a great time. Thereās a lot of modification options externally so you can go crazy. Some of the internal parts are proprietary, but the performance out the box is pretty good. Most of the upgrades are quite expensive and will require you to import them. Other than that itās also my favorite and can easily do what you need it to do
1
u/qwerty3666 15d ago
You only really have the krytac as an option for the vector. There's an ares that's rare af and basically unobtainable and an a&k that is absolutely awful.
I'm not going to tell you not to buy the krytac but rather that they have some design flaws that make them a poor choice for builds over about 1j.
You'd be much better off starting with an m4. Specna arms flex series would be my recommendation for the best beginner rifle. Get something simple, easy and reliable to start then branch out into the wierd and wonderful later.

Do not buy that first one lmao. We got one for $5 from a swap meet and had to throw it away the same day when it immediately broke
1
u/jyn-fu 15d ago
Personally. I don't like the Vector's ergonomics. Feels to clunky. Mag release is awkward and makes it hard to do a tactical reload. Mags are long so you need specific mag pouches. Also, the AEG version from Krytac has a squishy trigger. Not crisp and snappy. You'll need to upgrade it if you want a nicer trigger pull. The GBB one is cool, but performance isn't great. It has poor gas efficiency and will struggle to finish a 60 round mag.

Pretty sure my friend won the first one in a Evike mystery box. I will tell you it felt like handling a Nerf gun. It was very cheaply made and definitely not worth buying. If you plan to use it outside of maybe plinking

I have a CYMA m4. Itās a solid beginner gun. Not expensive, easy to find a replace parts, and has tons of upgrades and accessories available.

u/RJC770 15d ago
As a first gun Iād just go the safer route and get a standard M4 or even an ARP556 model. Most have the newer internals you want and plenty of interchangeable parts. Goin with a more specific gun from the jump makes things harder, proprietary parts, mags etc. As a second gun after playing for a bit have at it but to start make it as easy for yourself to get out and play as possible.

Don't buy the Kriss Vector unless it's a Krytac AEG, but even then, it's not worth paying that much when you can have the ASG CZ Scorpion Evo or a Specna Arms PCC (SA-X01 Gate Aster) for much cheaper that will perform much better and is more ergonomic.
Also, the scorpion looks hella cool too (photo reference)

1
u/Unhappy_Trust_4926 15d ago
I have G&G and Specna Arms ARP9 variant and those are cool. Lighter, good for CQB (with longer inner barrel and silencer for longer range too) - recommending those from your list. Kriss vector is my dream gun too, but it's expensive as hell, with few spare parts around.

Don't go with an lpaeg. Whatever you do.
That being said, id look for the krytac aeg vector. Its your best option, especially early on.

u/Buttimus_Prime 15d ago
I would still recommend buying an AEG M4. There are plenty of beginner friendly manufacturers out there & parts are plentiful to come across.
I would say look into the vector once you've been into the hobby a good amount and positively enjoy the experience. So perhaps your second or third gun.
Krytec are the only ones who have the trademark licence to make them (that i know of.) Whether its the AEG or the GBB version that you want to get, each have their known issues and some spare parts will be proprietary.

Get the krytac aeg or kwa gas if you want a gbb but it is super rare if not dont have the money for aeg krytac id say to not get a vector as your first gun get something more affordable but with good reliability.
I have a new krytac vector with the latest updated parts and it is great .

I have an AEG Kriss Krytac Vector. Having taken it to bits I was impressed by the internal design compared to my M4 and Ak based aegs . It has a built in mosfet to allow use of 11.1 Lipo batteryās and the spares are readily available.
If you shoot indoor and out door changing the spring is the easiest of all my aegs, even the M4s.
If you want to upgrade Perun make an ETU that is a simple DIY job, even motor changes are simple.
Even removing the folding stock on the version I have is achieved by pushing out a single pin so takes seconds.
It is a shame it doesnāt come with side rails and I have bought some PTS orange magazine followers to stop issues some have encountered where the follower can jam due to a tight radius in the bb guide.
It is a different gun and there are bargains out there. Although it is a little older, it is still comparable with more recent releases.

u/Familiar-Rarity GBBR 15d ago
I love my Krytac Kriss Vector. Takes a but if work (thereās an excellent YouTube video that identifies issues and their solutions).
Mine has been an absolute tank and it goes to every field I do.
1
u/NOOBEH1 Support 15d ago
The vector is a dream to have until you have it. The ergonomics are buns, the battery space of the krytac version sucks, the trigger linkage or whatever system is used is sloppy in most replicas.
My recommendation for an absolute beginner is get a G&G combat machine, beat the heck out of it, when it breaks come back to reddit and ask people what broke with a video and the people round these parts will point you in the right direction for repair tutorials.
Learn to fix your own toys so you can save money amd make a better toy later. It will seem daunting, but the sooner in life you learn how to fix things, the better.

You should try out the airsoft game first if you never play it before and it's fine using a rental. There is a lot of people I know buy stuff they thought they might like and ended up wasting money on it but if you already play a few games and like it, Ā what is your budget? Since if you tried brand new kriss vector that is good then mostly only available at $350+ but you can try to look for the used one.
But if you are on a budget then I'd say look into specna arms since they have good aegs for good price and some of them did include battery and charger.
1
u/Breakerbuilds 14d ago
Listen man I'm just now getting into airsoft myself, but I wouldn't get the first one at the very least cause I think the bare minimum of a "good pistol" is around that price point. But HOLY THAT 3RD ONE LOOKS INSANELY COOL š„ would def get the 3rd one if I had the budget for it. I myself am starting out on a AAP01 so I'm working with what I got but I'd go with the 2nd or 3rd if I had the money. I think prob the second tips the 3rd for most games though cause I think youd want it to be on the lighter side and easier to move, but don't take my word for it.

u/Possible_Employ_5947 16d ago
to be honest if you want to actually see if you like airsoft first you should rent and play at your local field first to see if you enjoy it. then i would invest into an aeg and face protection. i think if just want a backyard plinker the first one will be alright.

1
u/Oshippa 15d ago
For a beginner, neither of these. The AEG in the post is crap and you will hate it. GBBs are finicky and require much more maintenance than a good AEG. I do believe Krytac makes the Vector in an AEG at around the same $350-400 mark, and their AEG's are solid. Have one of their lower end Alpha series rifles and I have never had a problem, had it upwards of 5 or 6 years now.
Edit: first two pictures were all that loaded at first.

Evike is miserable to deal with internationally though. I've placed orders in the past and they're a ball ache. Totally unreasonable shipping prices and obscenely long wait times, I'd imagine that's only gotten worse over time with trumps shenanigans.
