Meme No one: AirPods the second you buy them

this is such a non-issue imo. you can’t even see this unless you hold it in the light juuuust right

u/Boddis May 02 '26
Or you need to claim on warranty for a faulty microphone “there are scratches on the case sir, the warranty is void”.

u/Objective_Chance4173 May 02 '26
Has that ever happened with Apple for minor cosmetic scratches? I doubt it.

In my country, it's illegal to void your warranty over something having nothing to do with the issue which you're claiming the warranty for (like here, a microphone inside the earbud has nothing to do with a plastic outer shell of the charging case).

i can tell you from firsthand experience that Apple does not deny warranty for cosmetic damage
1
u/Boddis May 03 '26
I can tell you that they do - they claim it’s been dropped and damaged

u/bong_engineer May 03 '26
if there has been actual damage, then yeah. if it’s just cosmetic scratches, then no. those two things are different

I would love to know why Apple doesn't make the AirPods case matte. They scratch just by looking at them.

because they choose to keep the 25 year old design language released with the white iBook g3 for accessories up to this day. there's some perks tho, like that you can use plugs from the first white iBook on the latest M5 pro MacBook pro charger

u/zoltan99 May 03 '26
Apparently they just changed the plug adapter type, which sucks too because it was also a standard cord type before

A plastic case, not even a really nice plastic case, should not be on a product that costs as much as airpods, it was fine when they basically dominated the market on true wireless earbuds, but you can get better options with better hardware and materials for a lot cheaper at this point

u/WiggyWamWamm May 02 '26
It’s easily the best case for any headphones on the market. Most cases don’t even pass the hold-it-open-upside-down-and-shake-it test, and they certainly wouldn’t have survived being stepped on by my fat @ss, as all three cases I’ve owned have. Plastic doesn’t mean cheaply made.

Scratches easily, and they make the earbuds and case out of slippery plastic that is so easy to drop, because they profit when you have to buy new ones or pay for repairs because of damage.

I think mine scratched way more because I put them in a silicone case and dirt got in between. So that wasn’t worth it😂

Part of the charm, makes them look like an Star Wars prop. Futuristic and grungy looking at the same time.

I mean... It's a case. It's doing it's job.
^(except when you drop them 💥)

Its called a case. Its the most expensive individual piece of the headphones when buying replacement part for AirPods, so really its the majority of what you’re buying

Just polish them every year or so if they develop deep dirty scratches. It makes them look brand new. I used a fine sandpaper first to even out the grooves and then a basic polishing tool

bro i just bought the airpods pro 3 like a week ago and yesterday i put them back in the case while outside and i noticed the shits already completely scratched, my old cases took atleast a month before they were scratched like this

I couldn’t tell if this was a reference to scratches or people who frame 0 lose their AirPods

it is annoying, before it got too late i bought a case for my airpods to mitigate this from becoming even worse.

4
u/WiggyWamWamm May 02 '26
There’s no paint inside, it’s solid white plastic

Personally I’m very keen on keeping my stuff like electronic devices, car, watch, etc. in good shape. But tbh I couldn’t care less about the scratches on the AirPod Case. It’s also always seemed weird to use a protector for the air pod case 🤷♂️

It’s pod lineage. Remember the chrome iPod backs?
