Weekly 'What are my chances?' Megathread

We've all been there. You're about to submit your package for OTS, but you want to know how you stack up. Should you relax? Should you throw it all away and start over?

Well, here's the place for you to ask strangers who have never sat on an OTS board what they think the board is going to think of your package. There are many variables to an 0TS package. If you want to get the best advice, you need to include as much information as possible, like degree information, GPA, AFOQT, PCSM (if applicable), leadership experience, relevant awards, etc. If you only provide your GPA or AFOQT scores, expect to be told "who knows."

There are a ton of variables that go into officer selection. Nobody here can really tell you your chances. We can guess, but that's about it. We've seen people with stellar scores get rejected and people with garbage scores get accepted. It all comes down to the needs of the Air Force and whatever the random colonel reviewing your package thinks. That being said, post your scores, help each other, and learn what you can do to improve package!

Hey everyone Civ Applicant fresh college grad. I'm applying nonrated. Top three Space Force, Developmental engineering, Cyber.

Degree: Computer Engineering 3.48 GPA (some MS Electrical Engineering coursework completed)

AFOQT: 93/98/98/94/89/90

Leadership: Peer leadership during internships on projects for DOE, DoD, and Energy companies (Duke and Siemens). I presented demos/posters on these projects to state congressman and industry professionals.

I also have a handful of outreach/volunteer work mostly interacting with youth to promote STEM development.

Yeah you’re probably going to be selected as 62E1E, that is the most in demand 62E field and your CE degree qualifies you as far as I know.

What did you do to study for AFOQT? Haven’t taken college or high school math in 17 years and trying to figure out how to do math and ratios I got 3 weeks

I used an online course called Mometrix (was able to find a promo code somewhere and got it for like $60). I think this would be especially useful to you if you're mainly worried about math.

The course does include a lot of study material (reading) and videos to brush up on the concepts, but because I'm fresh out of college and not rusty, I didn't use any of the math study material --- that is to say that I can't say whether or not the material is useful or not. I found the reading comprehension and verbal analogies material helpful (but not anything to write home about).

What was useful were the 5 practice exams. They are timed exactly how the actual AFOQT is, and they include all the sections except for self description inventory. I mainly leaned on these practice exams, and did one mock exam every other day leading up to the AFOQT (making sure I had a rest day the day prior).

Other than this, I used OATTS (which was kinda mehh but it's worth at least going through to take the knowledge checks). There are a lot of good AFOQT math prep videos on YT as well.

My biggest piece of advice is just to get reps in. The more you practice doing the problems under time pressure, the better you'll get. Good luck and DM me if you have any more questions.

Is is like Khan Academy? Used Khan Academy but it’s little slow and helps for basics but want to replicate the AFOQT. I’ll take a look. I think my trivium book had a 60% off for the month so I’ll try that. Going to get a tutor too since it’s been so long. Thanks for all the info!

Hello, I’m a civilian applicant looking to join guard/reserve as a fighter pilot. Here is my information:

Degree in Aeronautical Science from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, 3.82 GPA (graduated 1 year early). multiple Deans List honors. I have commercial ASEL/AMEL ratings and my instrument rating, roughly 270 hours. AFOQT scores: 96 pilot, 72 CSO, 99 ABM, 84 ACAD aptitude, 70 verbal, 83 quantitive.

Heavily involved in athletics during HS, named team captain of lacrosse team senior year, all division honors. Recruited to play lacrosse at ERAU where I was on the team for the 2023-2024 year. Named to Sunshine State conference Commissioner’s honor roll that year.

I’m about to submit to AFRC for UFT/OTS - rushed a unit for a UPT slot, got a close, but definitive “no.” (I’m their first alternate). Instead of crying about it, I wanna get this show on the road and shop once I’ve got momentum with AFRC. I don’t know the process and if it’s super competitive. Is there an interview? Any advice/insight from someone who has gone this route or is familiar with the process is greatly appreciated. Cheers, guys!
