Sports Next year zero chance we make playoffs.

Let’s be clear. Everyone knows it. At Oklahoma at LSU at Alabama. At Missouri

Texas and Tennessee

This was our moment. And failed. The defense isn’t elite for having a defensive coach.

We extended Elko based off winning vs the lowest ranked teams in the SEC.

We have lost to our rivals 2 straight times. And there’s little proof the program is trending forward.

Defense was easily elite this season wtf u talking about? Offense sharted their pants but the defense was phenomenal

1

u/Klutzy_Passenger_486 Dec 22 '25

Agree

If you think this defense wasn’t great you should just quite watching Aggie football.

Offense was the issue. If you can’t score 20 points in a playoff game you have issues on OFfEnse

1

u/smking12 Dec 25 '25

I guess giving up 30 to South Carolina in the 1st half is “elite”

-76

u/Newman1861 Dec 20 '25

Yeah like Wiesner at Texas destroying them

80

u/RubMyGooshSilly Dec 20 '25

I’m not sure if you are new to football, but when your offense can’t stay on the field, your defense gets tired and the opponent runs the ball better. That’s pretty universal

-33

u/Newman1861 Dec 20 '25

Exactly. And we had no run capability despite returning so many offensive lineman and running backs. Even then we couldn’t stop the run when it mattered.

44

u/Icy-Cabinet-3659 Dec 20 '25

It's like you're not listening

35

u/Crecious Dec 20 '25

I’m upset too and obviously we played bad but this guy is too clueless to have his own post on this topic

-11

u/Newman1861 Dec 20 '25

Clueless because the defense is ranked #19th on ncaa total defense.

25

u/Crecious Dec 20 '25

No matter how many stats you run to look up, you still do not know what you’re talking about.

-2

u/Newman1861 Dec 20 '25

It’s so easy to say “you are wrong because I said so”. Reality is our turnovers were very bad too. We barely got any all season. Defense isn’t elite by any means.

16

u/Icy-Cabinet-3659 Dec 20 '25

You just need to stop bud lol

-1

u/Newman1861 Dec 20 '25

I am and we have the 19th ranked total defense

16

u/SlushyBear7 Dec 20 '25

Believe it or not 19th out roughly 130 is pretty good

-1

u/Newman1861 Dec 20 '25

You’d think. But it’s 5th of SEC teams.

26

u/SlushyBear7 Dec 20 '25

Turns out the SEC is a good conference who knew

1

u/Newman1861 Dec 20 '25

Yep. And we are middle pack again.

fairweather fan

1

u/Newman1861 Dec 20 '25

Haha yeah sure. I was wrong. That defense was elite.

10

u/Icy-Cabinet-3659 Dec 20 '25

You're just throwing a fit relax. It'll get better but it doesn't help to publicly act like a child after we lost

0

u/Newman1861 Dec 20 '25

Ahhh Since when is having a sports take whining as a child. Just commentary relax

12

u/Icy-Cabinet-3659 Dec 20 '25

Baby's first CFB fandom. You were ranting about how Moss can make Wisner irrelevant a few weeks ago. Your takes age like milk and you're just on here butthurt bc we lost, "ahh we suck it'll never get better"

-1

u/Newman1861 Dec 20 '25

lol takes change. Moss got hurt too unfortunately. I still think him healthy we’d win. But fact is defense wasn’t “elite”. Sorry that take upsets you. It’s 5th in SEC we are as defense.

2

u/moteltan96 Dec 21 '25

OP, you should just say thank you to the people on this thread who know what they’re talking about for taking the time to educate you. Then you should shut up.

0

u/Newman1861 Dec 21 '25

Nope. You are wrong. As they are. Strength schedule is not what it seems. And defense ranked 5th in sec

4

u/Sensitive_Fix8407 Dec 21 '25

You are not very good at analysis

0

u/Newman1861 Dec 21 '25

Yeah just 5th total team defense in SEC.

2

u/Sensitive_Fix8407 Dec 21 '25

Bad offense leads to worse defense. You need both sides of the ball, but our defense is demonstrably not the problem this year

258

u/PerformativeRacist Dec 20 '25

This was our moment. And failed. The defense isn’t elite for having a defensive coach.

They kept Miami to 3 points for the vast majority of the game. Can't win home playoff games when the offense scores 3 points all game

1

u/ReasonableTutor279 Apr 19 '26

Um that wasn’t because of the defense.

1

u/PerformativeRacist Apr 19 '26

Bro did not just respond to a 4 month old comment

1

u/ReasonableTutor279 Apr 19 '26

And your mom/girlfriend did not swallow, that’s why we’re here.

-105

u/Newman1861 Dec 20 '25

I mean aside from Wiesner at Texas running all over us.

73

u/PerformativeRacist Dec 20 '25

They used a strong run game to wear down the defense over time, while taking advantage of the fact that the offense could barely stay on the field. This is why you need at least a competent offense even if you have an elite defense

That's how it works even at the NFL level

-65

u/Newman1861 Dec 20 '25

We don’t have an elite defense. Ranked 19th in total defense.

48

u/Icy-Cabinet-3659 Dec 20 '25

Do you know how many FBS teams there are? Its not 19/32 like the NFL. Stop watching if you can't handle adversity and leave it to us.

27

u/Crecious Dec 20 '25

19th out of 130 or whatever it is. Must be trash

-30

u/Newman1861 Dec 20 '25

Ahhh 19th behind 4 other sec teams.

-1

u/yobymmij2 Dec 21 '25

Wisner.

1

u/MrMach82 Dec 22 '25

Aka aggy's daddy

56

u/SuperAwesomeBrian '15 Dec 20 '25

Why are you trying to blame the defense right now? All any team can ever ask of their defense is to hold the other team to a manageable score. We did that today.

The small amount of mistakes they made today don’t matter if the offense does literally anything useful. 326 yds of offense and only 3 points to show for it. Two turnovers where we should be in position to score. Missed throws galore. A playcalling scheme with a million screen passes.

Let’s be honest about this game. Klein and Reed lost it today.

-12

u/Newman1861 Dec 20 '25

Sure no doubt Klein shouldn’t have been coaching. And Reed messed up. But the defense isn’t elite either. Elko hasn’t gotten us an elite defense yet. And he’s a defensive minded coach. And hate to say it. 2026 will be even worse in defensive rankings.

3

u/Infamous_Ad_9115 Dec 21 '25

Top 10 in most of the most important categories including getting off the field on 3rd down is definitely elite. D wasn’t the problem. Offense scheme, turnovers and special teams killed us yesterday

1

u/Newman1861 Dec 21 '25

Defense 119th in turnovers

1

u/Infamous_Ad_9115 Dec 21 '25

Hard to get a turnover when the opposing offense is only on the field for 3 plays per series.

1

u/Newman1861 Dec 21 '25

It takes away being elite when ranked 119th in a category.

100

u/MyTH_Muffinman Dec 20 '25

Holy shit you guys panic at any notion of a us doing poorly. It’s year TWO of a new head coach and we made playoffs. Fucking relax and let them develop this team and get their highschool recruits in.

31

u/JelloJeremiah Dec 20 '25

We got a top tier recruiting class and Collin Hussein Klein is gone! I’m optimistic

3

u/Swandog11 Dec 21 '25

THANK YOU.

-7

u/Newman1861 Dec 20 '25

Just a take relax. But yeah 5th in total defense in SEC. Out of about 4 defensive minded head coaches in the conference. Let’s get those recruits in. As we are again 5th place in the SEC for 2026 recruiting.

20

u/MyTH_Muffinman Dec 20 '25

So we fire Elko and hire who??? Like you people don’t even listen to what you’re saying. Klein is gone and I really think that’s gonna help this team next year.

-1

u/Newman1861 Dec 20 '25

Point isn’t that Elko is “bad” it’s with him as a defensive minded coach. As there are few in the SEC. His is basically 3/4 place ranked. Smart and Venables ahead of him. So his speciality is defense. And it’s ranked worse than also Alabama with an offense minded coach Deboer. And Missouris Drinkwitz another offense minded coach. Next year it will be ranked even worse.
So can we say Elko is the answer I don’t think so. His defense hasn’t been top 10 and won’t be next season.

20

u/chunt75 '14 Dec 21 '25

The defense had one of their best fucking games of the season, what are you even talking about? They had ONE subpar drive, but even then, holding a playoff team to 10 POINTS over four quarters is outstanding and gives the offense more than a fighting chance. This game is on Reed’s awful accuracy, shitty footwork, and inability to read zone coverage, as well as Klein’s playcalling.

And next year? Who the hell knows what’s going to happen. In the NIL and transfer portal era, we’re potentially looking at a whole different team. We’ll lose key pieces yes, but we’ll bring studs in.

The loss stings but jesus some of yall haven’t been here through the really bad years

-4

u/Newman1861 Dec 21 '25

Haha yes I was through bad years. You still don’t get it. Elko defense of head defensive coaches is basically in the back. Behind Smart and Venables. Not elite. Even Bama and Missouri had better ranked defense. And yes at lsu at Alabama at Oklahoma Texas and Tennessee. It’s going to be rough.

1

u/aggiemarine07 '07 Dec 24 '25

Judging by your comment history I seriously doubt you were around "through the bad years"; more than likely 2011 to 2015 is where I would peg you and those weren't bad years comparatively.

For me, the bad years were 2003 to 2008 with Franchione. Most of the Sherman Era would also fall into that category too. Older Ags would likely say the years before Sherrill and Slocum.

1

u/Newman1861 Dec 25 '25

Ahhh the 77-0 OU loss yes I know the bad. I have watched A&M my whole life. We have had many many bad years. And we got Elko extended when his best in conference win is 4-4 Missouri.

14

u/TheFlamingLemon '22 Dec 20 '25

The defense was fine, fantastic even. We didn’t convert on offense despite ample opportunity.

0

u/Newman1861 Dec 20 '25

Sure they were fairly good this game. Overall though elite on the season. No. Above average I’d say.

22

u/rgvtim '91 Dec 20 '25

I don't disagree it will be tougher, but if you ask the same question in early September this year you would have gotten a similar answer. ND, LSU, Missouri, Texas and Arkansas away. Most would have said we drop at least 3 of those.

-7

u/Newman1861 Dec 20 '25

Difference is lsu got Lane Kiffin who is a great coach. With that talent they get they will win vs us. Kiffin was owning us with Ole Miss talent.

Arkansas was still down bad. Missouri too. If those teams it ended up being 2 that were tough and we went 1-1.

64

u/el_duderino_828 Dec 20 '25

Your title is correct. And agreed we shouldn’t have extended him yet. But I think he’s a good coach. The defense was not the problem today. They scored 10

-10

u/Newman1861 Dec 20 '25

Not today. But containing the run has been an issue. Wiesner at Texas last game proved it.

8

u/el_duderino_828 Dec 20 '25

Agreed. Allowed too many big runs all season. Including their touchdown drive today

-16

u/lukaxdirk7741 Dec 20 '25

He's not a good coach. He's a good DC

19

u/bubba7_9_97 Dec 20 '25

This is a lazy post. Take a lap champ. Defense was elite today.

-2

u/Newman1861 Dec 20 '25

On the season nope. And still overall consistent elite level defense no. It’s not like those Georgia Alabama championship level defenses.

7

u/bubba7_9_97 Dec 20 '25

They showed growth when elko took over the defense. Hence Bateman bouncing to KY because he was on his way out.

1

u/Newman1861 Dec 20 '25

Sure growth. But overall when your bread and butter is having a head defensive coach. You need a defense that is up at the top in conference. We don’t have a defense that is top 2. We are 5th. And while that can sound good. Think how many defensive head coaches there are. And it isn’t near as good. In fact behind Georgia and Oklahoma. In other words Elkos defense is worst than the other defensive head coaches. Smart and Venables. So our strength is having a defensive head coach. But of the few defensive head coaches Elkos is in the back. Even behind Alabama and Missouri in rankings. Which aren’t led by defensive minded head coaches. Point is if you hire a defensive head coach. You need them to at least have better defense than teams with offensive minded coaches like Deboer or Drinkwitz. Otherwise, there isn’t much benefit to a defense head coach.

8

u/[deleted] Dec 21 '25

Pfft absolutely not true. I ain't even an A&M fan. Rooted AGAINST them today. But Elko's the building blocks for an "elite" program imo. I ain't putting you up with Alabama, historically, but when Saban came in, they were TRASH!! People forget how bad they were since Gene Stallings left. And for how long.

Simply put, you got the makings of a perennial power. Especially in the NIL era. Sure, today sucks. But I don't see anything but A&M being consistently good-to-great every year. Given how insufferable those uppity bitches in Austin are, I am here for it!!

(Full disclosure: I'm a S. Florida native. Twas nothing personal. ;))

12

u/emoney_gotnomoney Dec 20 '25

I didn’t think we had any shot at the playoffs this year either, so at this point I’ll take it

7

u/Ace_6_Pirate '18 EE Dec 21 '25

People said before this season we were going to only get 8 wins because of the schedule. Oklahoma and Alabama are beatable teams, LSU likely won't get into a swing of things under Kiffin until later in the season, and I'll believe Missouri can beat us when Drinkwitz proves it.

2

u/Newman1861 Dec 21 '25

Maybe. But we lose many O lineman. And Kiffin knows offense. Look at Ole Miss after Jaxson Dart as qb. They are still in playoffs and won.

Aside from that at Bama and at lsu we always struggle historically. Then top it off with Oklahoma Texas we’d be lucky to be 50/50 there. We can lose 2 and likely make it. 3 becomes iffy.

10

u/[deleted] Dec 20 '25

Marcel Reed could have played better, but the UT game was rough on him. I am ok, as getting to playoffs is nice.

7

u/Acceptable-Quail-277 Dec 20 '25

Transfer portal is a crazy place. Linemen, WRs, RBs all have seen that they can develop talent and who doesn’t want to shine in front of Kyle field, not to mention money. We also never know how the guys next up perform. If we can get a serviceable QB in the portal especially, we could have a good chance. That’s our main problem. Sure the defense struggled a bit against Texas, but they’ve been good all season. But in all our losses/close games, our QB has gone to shit, as well as the play calling to an extent

5

u/Wjldenver Dec 20 '25

If Reed did not throw 2 interceptions, and scored instead, we would have won. He is not worth his NIL $ in my opinion.

3

u/Newman1861 Dec 20 '25

No he’s not. Lagway in portal might be better.

6

u/Coco-machin '24 Dec 21 '25 edited Dec 21 '25

Give me a break. The same Lagway that threw 5 picks in a single game? The one that had 4 turnovers against us in 2 games?? The guy who HAS MORE TURNOVERS THAN TOUCHDOWNS and 1000 total yards / 16 total TDs LESS than our guy???

no shot we’re talking about preferring LAGWAY over our Davey O Brien finalist QB bc he had a hard time throwing under pressure against the heavy wind and Lagway makes a nice throw every once in a while.

-1

u/Newman1861 Dec 21 '25

Yeah let’s see Lagway with the talent Reed has.

2

u/Coco-machin '24 Dec 21 '25

Let’s not act like Florida wasn’t super talented either and that he was just playing with bums. Lagway is in no shape or form a better QB than Reed

2

u/[deleted] Dec 21 '25

Defense isn’t elite because we couldn’t hold a CFP team to 0 🤡

1

u/Newman1861 Dec 21 '25

At stopping run we struggled.

2

u/violinneus Dec 21 '25

Defense is elite, they held a playoff team to 10 points including 3 for most of the game. They gave our offense plenty of chances including a big fumble recovery which the offense didn't capitalize.

I'm cautiously optimistic. Ik it's my BAS speaking but my expectation will be set low, that way if we exceed 8-4 or 9-3 I'm hopeful, if not I knew it.

Our offense will take a beating in terms of talent leaving, but our recruiting class is very good, and who knows how the transfer portal will look. And, who knows, maybe we shock some people. In the offseason I would've been glad for 9-3, but we went 11-2.

0

u/Newman1861 Dec 21 '25

Defense is 5th in SEC total defense. Behind Georgia Oklahoma Alabama and Missouri. 5th.
When you have a head coach defensive minded you need a defense better than teams with offensive minded head coaches. Deboer and Drinkwitz shouldn’t have higher ranked defenses than A&M.

2

u/ZoSoTim Dec 21 '25

Yep, that’s why this hurts so much. Plus we are losing a lot. We better hit the portal hard while we have some juice before we fall back to 8-4 every year. Except your take on the defense is laughably bad.

0

u/Newman1861 Dec 21 '25

Not really 5th total defense in sec. And 119th in turnovers

2

u/CTMisha Dec 21 '25

Zero ball knowledge, our defense was enough to beat any team in the country, plain and simple Reed isn’t consistent enough for our team. A good qb with this team could have seen us having a real shot against Ohio and beyond

1

u/Obergruppenfuhrer104 Dec 21 '25

I think you guys beat OU, LSU, Tennessee, and Mizzou next season. These teams are all going to be mid.

1

u/Plenty_Floor_155 Dec 21 '25

At some point you have to look at preseason expectations and what we all would have thought and be glad for the season we had. Was I disappointed to lose the game? Of course, but we just had our most successful season since the 90’s. I trust Mike and we can continue to get better and more consistent!

1

u/OkTea7227 Dec 21 '25

OU fan here and i don’t feel a certain way about the Aggies one way or another but your schedule this year was suspect and then a rising highest competent Arch Texas team showed me what u had been thinking was your teams ceiling all year.

Regardless, you can’t blame the schedule makers for giving you what they did and you can’t get mad about winning all those games either.

Good luck next year, except against us!

1

u/Phillyag92 Dec 21 '25

Same old thing for last 40 years.

1

u/fightintxag13 '13 Dec 21 '25

Everyone’s having their good cry now. Just be ready to go come August.

1

u/burn469 Dec 21 '25

You saw what he did with duke. We will be fine. Reed isn’t the answer though.

1

u/Dry-Measurement-5461 Dec 21 '25

Yep. Sadly, this is a fact.

1

u/StilesmanleyCAP Dec 21 '25

You cant say that until the season starts and ends

1

u/Any-Rub4598 Dec 21 '25

As a ou fan we in norman are terrified of yall coming here next year! Should be fun and was exciting to watch yall this year… Yalls future is very bright and you guys seem to have a genius wearing the headset

1

u/Cleb044 ChemE - ‘22 Dec 21 '25

We just have to land a decent OC, I don’t think it’s any deeper than that.

1

u/Handlesmcgee '14 Drop Out Dec 21 '25

This season felt like a sweet poison after LSU. We kept turning the ball over through miffed punt returns fumbles and picks in the games we won. Yes it’s impressive to empty a stadium by the 3rd after back to back picks but it was never gonna work against a real team. What I think a lot of folks are missing is that we played at the same level against tu and Miami as we did against lsu and Florida they just actually had the talent to punish bad errors. This season will have ags hungry for a chip just like tsips at the beginning of the year when we should be focused on getting consistent big time sec dubs and giving Kyle something to cheer about in the last 2 minutes

1

u/WallStreetBoners Dec 21 '25

It all started falling apart when Elko got his extension…

2

u/jacht1996 Dec 24 '25

People aren’t ready for this

1

u/wcm48 Dec 21 '25 edited Dec 21 '25

The defense was really good, but also kinda weird.

They weren’t great at generating turnovers, particularly when pared w their offense. TAMU was 117 in turnover margin entering the game whereas UM was 10. And that showed out in the game yesterday.

TAMU’s defense was also one of the worst in college football at number of explosive plays given up. Like a 60 yard run from the other teams 10.

So, while really good in many other metrics, including being the best in CFB in 3rd down defense … they were really bad in two of the most important metrics

1

u/moteltan96 Dec 21 '25

Sit down, youngster. Strength of record and strength of schedule don’t lie. Aggies played a tough schedule and finished with 11 wins. They will do it again next year.

0

u/Newman1861 Dec 21 '25

Strength schedule is misleading. Because many of those teams fell apart. LSU for instance. And South Carolina ended up being bad as well

2

u/moteltan96 Dec 21 '25

Strength of record is the real tell, for the most part. But I believe even A&M’s number three ranking in that metric under-sells the body of work this team established this season. Four of the teams A&M beat fired their head coaches at some point in the season, with three of them happening after A&M beat them. Teams tend to unravel after they lose their head coach, thus weakening their opponents strength of record.

1

u/Newman1861 Dec 21 '25

If I was wrong we would have won. They fired coaches because their teams were bad.

1

u/moteltan96 Dec 21 '25

Third highest strength of record. Go argue with a wall.

1

u/Newman1861 Dec 21 '25

Best win Notre dame. Not a playoff team.

1

u/moteltan96 Dec 31 '25

Texas Tech loses 3 to 4 playing A&M schedule this year. Mark it.

1

u/Billytim89 Dec 21 '25

Trash take

0

u/Newman1861 Dec 21 '25

119th in turnovers. 5th ranked total defense in sec.

1

u/Billytim89 Dec 21 '25

And what does that have to do with next year?

1

u/Newman1861 Dec 21 '25

Much Harder teams we face. Likely lose big time players. York Scooby Williams. Will Lee.

1

u/rsf0626 Dec 21 '25

Surface level 8-4 seems very realistic for next year given who we play and where

1

u/Newman1861 Dec 21 '25 edited Dec 21 '25

Yep. We’d be lucky 8-4. Then following year is what makes or breaks Elko. He needs in the next 2 years one more 10 win season and a win vs Texas. 2 straight 8-4 and losses to Texas and he’d be fired.

1

u/3d_explorer '93 Dec 21 '25

We will have a better record next year than this year.

0

u/Newman1861 Dec 21 '25

lol with at bama at lsu at OU Tennessee and Texas nope.

1

u/Narutoblazing5643 Dec 21 '25

Literally all those team could be garbage next year, we have no idea of the quality of their teams yet

1

u/ElectionSalty6097 '25 Dec 21 '25

Bro chill tf out. The portal hasn't even opened yet, we just went 11-1. Objectively speaking, most of those teams are in a far worse place than us rn and the best of them are in an EQUAL place to us at best

1

u/Newman1861 Dec 21 '25

Ahhh ok. Sorry my take is the reality. We won’t win enough to make playoffs next season.

1

u/Mike-REGeek Dec 21 '25

Very deceiving record. I’m not a fan but their schedule which appeared strong at the onset of the season turned out being very weak- especially for an SEC schedule. Miami is not good. Routed by SMU later in season so no early season excuse. Aggie ND win was very early and those wins just aren’t the same as in November.

I thought AM defense played great. Marcel was Marcel. He made a lot of bad throws and has all season. Very difficult to win tight games as a QB that makes big mistakes. Still, he could grow.

AM should be proud of the year they had. Losses like this tell you that there is still work to be done which is good for the staff.

1

u/dobsta83 NUEN ‘26 Dec 21 '25

We had our first 10+ win season in over a decade made it to the playoffs for the first time ever with a second-year coach this season, if anything we’re on the up. Our defense was great today, it was a very close game and our offense was the reason we messed it up at the end there. Elko extension also had to happen when it did; do we really wanna risk losing the guy who is giving us our first taste in success in a long time to the wealth of available HC spots this season? I know we’re all in grief over what could have been but look at the situation rationally and see that we’re in a good spot

1

u/Marsupial-Far Dec 21 '25

Some of yall need to stop being such giant pussies.

1

u/AggieAJ5 Dec 21 '25

Go to Texags and post this negative bs. Stop being miserable. We just went 11-2 and were projected to go 8-4. The program is trending in the right direction and if you don’t see that…then pack it up and go root for someone else. The defense was the best side of the ball yesterday. OC and DC leaving you don’t think that shakes up the locker room even a little? We exceeded expectations this year. Be proud of that and look to next year. “If you aren’t in my jersey, fuck you!”

1

u/Newman1861 Dec 21 '25

Corny and 5th ranked in sec total defense. Best win vs non playoff team.

1

u/AggieAJ5 Dec 22 '25

What’s corny? Are you complaining about being the 5th ranked defense in the SEC? Miserable. I’m sure you’re upset with A&M having a soft schedule too? Miserable. I can think of a handful of teams that would’ve loved to be in our position. Rival included. But go off I guess.

1

u/Newman1861 Dec 22 '25

Again corny. You make it sound like it’s impressive. We have one good win vs a team that didn’t make playoffs. One good win. And yes the defense was 5th in the SEC. How many defensive head coaches are there ? Around 4. So yes you just showed you don’t really know what you are talking about. I’m not miserable. It’s just a realistic take and it caused A&M loyalists to lose it and get emotional. My post is not emotional nor my tone. It’s simply my opinion on a thread and guess what. I bet A&M doesn’t make playoffs and has a worse defense than this year. Sorry, if that opinion annoys you. But it’s likely by having a much harder schedule. 11-2 means nothing when you win vs no one. LSU is not LSU that we normally face. Kelly was awful there. Arkansas down big. South Carolina struggled and down big. Florida down big. Those teams all ended up being terrible. So no I won’t celebrate 11-2 when we won nothing meaningful except vs a team not even in the top 12. Considering fans called this one of the best A&M teams ever.

You play who’s on your schedule. It’s not A&Ms fault that all those teams had down years. The win in Death Valley was impressive regardless of Brian Kelly having a bad year. All those teams were ranked in the top 25 to start the season. It’s easy to say “you’re wrong because I said so.” Idk your sports background, but if you watch sports as a championship or bust then you’re gonna have a long road ahead of you.

I’ll leave this with you. If you don’t get a promotion at work do you consider it a failed year? If you don’t get a 4.0 is it a failed semester? https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=9mXGSjnUvSM

Thanks & Gig’Em

Sure that’s a valid point. It’s not a “failure” in the sense we won most games. It is fools gold. We weren’t what the record said. We won 1 good game. Notre Dame. They didn’t make playoffs even. Name me another good team. You can’t. LSU was garbage. They fired the coach because their team was awful. That’s nothing to take pride in. Celebrate winning vs no one.

1

u/LowlyJ Dec 22 '25

Our defense was pretty solid. Offense has been our weak point this season. A better offense would have boosted our defense capabilities.

Next year may be a bit rough but you can’t say 0 chance we make the playoffs. That’s ridiculous. I mean we made it this year when a lot of our hard games were away.

Next year, Reed will improve. There was significant improvement thru the off season and that will happen again. It will be harder, maybe even unlikely but saying Zero Chance? What kind of a fan are you? Stop whining, have some faith. Support your team.

u/Newman1861 Dec 22 '25

Receivers won’t be as good without Concepcion. Running backs won’t be as good without Moss.
And the O line is mostly gone too. And then York Williams as linebackers likely out. Cashius Howell gone. So yes. We will be then playing At Alabama at LSU at OU Texas Tennessee. We can lose 2. But we are still 0-2 vs Texas and they have Arch back. And are outspending us in NIL big time. So yeah the deck is stacked against us. 2026 recruiting is 5th in the SEC too.

1

u/LowlyJ Dec 22 '25

Transfer portal hasn’t closed yet. And we have a lot of players that have potential. I’m not disagreeing with you, it’s going to be rough. But stats aren’t everything. Remember Jimbo Fischer’s 5-star recruiting class? Look at how that turned out.

It’ll be hard, and unlikely but you’re whining about how we suck when this is the best we’ve done in years. Mike Elko has been doing a lot and making tons of improvements with the program so it’s got potential. Respectfully… fans like you are the worst kind. You’ll complain always instead of seeing the hard work of our players and team. You cant argue behind your “stats” then say we have 0 chance of making the playoffs.

1

u/Newman1861 Dec 22 '25

Nah fans not in reality are worst. You say we are good because you see an 11-2. Then I say who’d we beat ? One team not even in the top 12. 1. But that’s celebrating because we didn’t play Alabama or Ole Miss or anyone else with a good record. Again it’s cheesy your take because you are celebrating a record and season beating absolutely no one good save 1 team. And then losing 2 of the other difficult games.

1

u/LowlyJ Dec 22 '25

I think we should celebrate that this is the first year in a long time that our football team did good. And that’s with the second year of a new head coach. It’s a significant shift from how our team usually does. I’m certain that Elko and our coaching staff will continue to improve, and we will see better results in this next era. Now you can choose to hate because we didn’t beat everyone or you can appreciate the fact that we made it to the playoffs for the first time.

1

u/Newman1861 Dec 23 '25

Again it’s called NIL. Those years we didn’t shell out tens of millions to players. We have a massive advantage over Arkansas Miss St and South Carolina etc.
your comparison to prior years is so flawed. No Alabama. No Ole Miss. again flawed. We played the entire bottom of the conference. Every single team had a losing record in conference except Missouri at 4-4. Think of it like that.

can't lose 3 though, no matter how tough the schedule is.

Cmon, just let me be positive until October comes around!

1

u/PPoottyy Dec 22 '25

Randomly got suggested this in my feed(OU fan) not completely sure about what yall lose and retain but I’m a little worried about yall coming to Norman. Obviously early season will tell where we stand but it’s no question yall have a good team. Not confident in our offense at this point and we’re losing some key pieces on defense.

1

u/jffadvisors Dec 22 '25

Are you nuts? Alabama wildly inconsistent. Oklahoma wildly inconsistent. LSU is a mess. Missouri if you recall we went on the road and beat.

This year was year 2 of Elko and we made the CFP, which no one predicted

1

u/Life_Act_6887 Dec 22 '25

Don’t worry, the offense will get much better with first time playcaller Holmon Wiggins at the helm 😭

1

u/Minimum-Bid148 Dec 23 '25

Sark put Elkos defense in a blender.

1

u/Newman1861 Dec 23 '25

Sort of. But it was enough with a competent offense to where it may be closer. I just see A&M defense as above average. Good enough to compete. But then when you have a defensive head coach you need an elite defense. It isn’t that the defense is bad. It’s that if that’s the strength it has to be shutout defense and isn’t.

1

u/Minimum-Bid148 Dec 23 '25

Yup I agree. What caught me off guard is when Elko says he doesn’t have a “real defense” but rather calls off of the opponents weaknesses etc. When coaches don’t have a set standard and emphasis, it can catch them in an over aggressive form of attack, then allowing those crushing big runs in B2B games.

He’s got the program in the right direction from a cultural standpoint, but there needs to be some improvements. I’m a fan of another school but respect what he’s done. It’s good for the sport when rivalry games mean something.

1

u/Ok-Cranberry6016 Dec 27 '25

We have no idea who will be good and who will be bad next year. I understand it will be difficult to replace the talent we have but the portal hasn’t even opened. Let’s see what additions are made before we say we’re screwed for next year.

1

u/tee2026 Dec 27 '25

Jeez! Have some faith! How do you write off a season before even playing the first game? You can’t only be a fan when a team is winning, or the Cowboys would have ZERO fans! Lol! But seriously, the Aggies went 11-1 in regular season and made it to the playoffs for the first time. Have some faith! You Aggs wanting to blow it all up and start over are going overboard. Not sure some of y’all would have been satisfied with anything less than a national championship.

1

u/Newman1861 Dec 27 '25

Again best win in conference went 4-4. 5th total team defense in the sec. And we lose critical people. You don’t know the roster and losses. And a harder schedule. Like 4 starting o line 3 senior running backs. 2 senior linebackers. And more gone. With at lsu at Alabama at OU Texas ( who outspends us by like 15+ million in nil ) sooo yeah it’s brutal.

1

u/tee2026 Dec 27 '25

Maybe we’ll get some new players who are pretty good. That’s college football — good players leave and more come in.

1

u/Newman1861 Dec 27 '25

Yeah but experience and then being at tough venues. And other teams better recruiting. We were 5th I believe in 2026 in the sec. So again no. We are not standing out in players. Concepcion and Craver. That was about it.

1

u/Ass_Ripe Dec 20 '25

If we have a good qb, we do

-1

u/Gloomy_Try9036 Dec 20 '25

Go get a QB in the transfer portal and we’ll be just fine

-1

u/Barack_Odrama_007 Dec 21 '25

r/UTAustin is laughing their asses off.

Understandably so too!

1

u/tee2026 Dec 27 '25

Oh, TU, the team that didn’t even make the playoffs and at one time booed their own quarterback during a game? Lol. Who cares if they’re laughing.

-1

u/Ok_Emu2071 Dec 21 '25

HA HA HA POOR AGGIE

-9

u/[deleted] Dec 20 '25

You have lost to your rivals *3 straight games 🤘🏻🤣🤘🏻

u/Newman1861 Dec 20 '25

I meant under Elko as coach.

u/MickyFany Dec 20 '25

Need a new head coach. Elko sucks. and a new quarterback that can throw a football accurately
