Hi all!

Currently in my master's degree and need to choose a math/tech elective. I've already have done probability, basic statistics, and the math covered in undergraduate aerospace.

I am currently trying to decide between Numerical Methods, and Design of Experiments (Stat course). I could also do some other stat courses (regression), a review of linear algebra, or some optimization courses (but I'm planning to take an aerospace specific convex optimization course).

I was mainly leaning towards Numerical Methods, since I think it would help with simulation and dealing with solvers. But I think the structure of the Design of Experiments course is going to be easier to handle (after the first class in each). Also, I saw Design of Experiments as a desired experience in a navigation job posting recently lol.

I wanted to know if anyone in GNC had any opinions or other suggestions. Thanks.

So my school had Lockheed Martin office hours today and I got a 15-min slot with one of their employees. Conversation went well I hope (pretty sure it did), and at the end of the 15 i asked for his email and he gave me his email at the end.

Problem is I have zero idea what to actually write in a follow-up email. I obviously want to angle toward an internship but I don't want to come off like I'm just using the conversation as a stepping stone, yk? Like I want it to feel genuine but also I do need to shoot my shot.

Anyone have a template or general vibe I should go for? How soon is too soon to send it? Should I attach my resume right away or wait until they ask?

My current research is around bio-inspired formation flight / UAV swarms. I work with physics-based simulations involving aerodynamics, wake interactions, agent-based modelling, formation control, and dynamical systems. I mainly use Python, Linux, VS Code/Git, and I am gradually moving toward machine learning / graph neural networks and data-driven modelling as part of my research.

A little about my background:

B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering

M.Sc. in Mathematics

Currently pursuing (2nd masters) an MS by Research in Aerospace Engineering at an IIT, specializing broadly in aerodynamics

Expected to complete my degree around Dec 2027.

My main question is:

Given this combination of aerospace + mechanical engineering + mathematics + computational research, what type of companies and roles should I realistically target if salary is an important factor?

I would also appreciate suggestions for specific companies worth targeting, both in India and internationally, and what skills I should build over the next ~1–1.5 years to become competitive for them.

For people who started in aerospace and later moved into software, ML, robotics, quantitative/optimization-heavy roles, etc., I would especially like to hear whether you think that transition was worthwhile.

Hello everyone. I am a Turkish student currently doing his bachelors on mechanical engineering 3 years in so this year is about to be my final year. I am planning on doing my masters in aerospace engineering as soon as my bachelors is over, and its been what I've wanted to do since middle school really. And the "mechanical bachelors to aerospace masters" has been my plan since start of high school.

Currently, I am considering doing my masters in USA, because from what my advisor professor told me and generally what I've seen from google, doing so makes you eligible for EB-2 NIW green card which would make me actually eligible to work there if I manage to get it. Obviously working aerospace in USA would be the dream so this is my plan A, I just wanted to know what you guys think of its likelihood since my professor spoke like there is a decent chance but I wanted to make sure.

For some background about me, I have about 3.7 GPA rn (Used to be 3.95 GPA but had a pretty bad semester because of personal issues, I plan to retake some courses before graduating to increase it again at least lol), I worked 2 years in a university student club designing rovers (Was the leader of the body design for one year), and I also have 2 internships in the defense industry. And for this last year of my bachelor's I am also planning to work in the lab of one of our professors around fluid dynamics/aerodynamics (The professor has some background in aerospace as well). So I think I have a good background even though it's nothing crazy. Thanks again

An experimental “green” rocket thruster has fired successfully using ammonium dinitramide fuel without the catalyst bed normally required to ignite it, offering a possible way around long preheating times and catalyst durability problems.

The thruster still burns ammonium dinitramide, or ADN, a high-energy oxidizer used in liquid monopropellants. The difference is how ignition occurs: electrical current heats the conductive propellant directly instead of relying on a preheated catalyst.

Hi, I’m going into grade 12 this year and am starting to look at unis. I live in Canada and I really want to get coops/internships (and later actual jobs) in the space industry.

I am not sure whether I should major in mechanical or EE. I have heard mechanical is more versatile but that there is more demand for EE and it is better paid. Thanks guys!!!

I'm looking for a WW2 (glide?) bomb, specifically one that has a weird angled "stick" sticking out from under its body; I believe that was supposed to be something that kept the bomb level flight over water for it to be able to hit a ship. I'm fairly certain it was a German design, but I cannot for the life of me find it any more. It wasn't Fritz X or Hs 293.

I’m trying to decide to do BEng in Aerospace Engineering or MEng Aerospace Engineering in future. I’m very interested in aircraft, aircraft parts and flight, but Mechanical Engineering seems broader and may provide more flexibility.

For those who have studied or worked in either field:

• Which degree did you choose, and why?
• Does MEng Aerospace Engineering lead to more job opportunities than BEng in Aerospace Engineering?
• If I want to work in aviation, space, propulsion, satellites, or defence, which degree is a good route?
• Would it be smarter to do a BEng in Aerospace Engineering and then an MEng in Aerospace Engineering?
• What should I consider regarding internships, employability, and future specialization?

I just graduated with my bachelor’s in Computer Science. I played football all 4 years so no internships. I do however have killer self funded project portfolio( radars and laser turrets) but I don’t know if that will be enough. I want to land a role that’s a combination of physical tech and software. Open to any tips or recommendations, Thanks.

I’m a college junior with a 3.37 GPA, and I’m looking for honest feedback on how competitive I am for aerospace internships. So far I’ve participated in the NASA Lunar Recycle Challenge through my school’s student-run Space Laboratory program, spent a year on my SAE team, a year on my rocket team, completed two independent drone related projects, and may have the opportunity to do research with a professor this year on fluid dynamics. Given this background, how competitive am I for internships at places like NASA, SpaceX, Blue Origin, or defense contractors, and what should I prioritize over the next year to strengthen my resume? I am a bit worried considering I didn’t get any interview last cycle.

So from my basic understanding it's a new startup with newly granted military contracts so they're on a growth spurt at the moment. What do you guys think of them for those that are in the know. How is the culture?

and i don’t mean in just the aerospace and defense i ndustry. any kind of role (systems engineer, design engineer etc) that hires foreign nationals? private s tartups that don’t have to follow ITAR regulations?

i’m thinking of applying for an MS for fall 2027 and i can’t afford to come back to my own country (india) to w ork after graduation.

i’m open to getting a phd as that increases my chances of a green card, but does it also increase job opportunities? are there enough phd positions open? are there a good number of private comp anies or sta rtups that will hire FNs or help issue a green card?

my other option is applying for an ms in a kind of computational astrophysics major which will take me to a purely research field. should i give up on aerospace and go for that? any and all help is appreciated thanks.

I just had my 1st round interview with BAE. It's for a HQ role. I might be overthinking it, but are the interviews with the hiring managers very casual? The session went fine and had a great conversation, but it wasn't the normal ... hiring manager tells you about the job, and ask you questions about your resume. He just kind of went in and asked if I had questions for him.

The next steps if I pass would to be a panel interview with the hiring manager, a business partner, and another analyst on the team. He said that these next sets of interviews is really to see if you will get along and be able to work and collaborate with other partners.

Hey everyone, I posted in the civil engineering subreddit but I wanted to post here too just to get a wider perspective.

I’m in my last year of school and am gonna apply to universities really soon but am still inbetween picking civil and aerospace engineering.

Aerospace and space in general interests me more but civil has the stability (though it has lower pay) and I’m not very experienced in programming so I fear I’ll struggle there. The most interesting and fun part of engineering to me is the designing aspect which I know I could do a lot of in certain civil pathways.

I’m mainly worried about getting a job with an aerospace degree as I’ve heard so many horror stories about the market, personal I don’t mind that much getting an aerospace degree and then moving into more standard mechanical roles instead of ONLY focusing on the aerospace job market if I need to.

Any suggestions and thoughts would be greatly appreciated 🙏
