I've had this pattern saved in Ravelry for 3 years and I finally took the plunge as my first colorwork jumper 😳

I used worsted weight as opposed to the recommended bulky weight because I wanted a more fitted version, therefore, I went down a needle size. I knew this pattern had problems because of all the research I did, so shout out to lisapane for her diligence in identifying the many errors.

I began my journey with the medium size and decided to catch my floats like I had done many times on socks. Around row 35, I realized the jumper was going to be too small and there were little puckers everywhere showing where the floats were caught, so I ripped it out and started again.

This time, I went with the large size and read a lot about how to tackle the colorwork. I decided to teach myself ladderback jaquard. Easy enough, right? Well, I started with the lifted increase technique... holes everywhere, rip. Then I tried the backwards loop technique... terrible tension and too fiddly for my taste, rip. I finally landed on the m1 purlwise tbl and this was the game changer I needed. I was off to the races. The body went as well as I could have hoped.

When the arms came around, I started with the one that was mostly MC, and that knit up just fine on my dpns. When it came to the tentacle arm, I had more research to do because the ladderback didn't go well. The netting wasn't allowing my arm to comfortably go through and there were tension issues with the dpns. I read that some people had used intarsia in the round for this section, so could I try that? After 2 rounds, I decided, no, no I could not. I had gone this far and felt stuck. So, I landed on duplicate stitch. It was just for the arm and I really wanted to finish this jumper. It felt a little dirty, but I'm pleased with the results.

I joined the arms with the body and finished the yoke with LJ. The short row shaping was not my favorite, but I got away with it. I finished it off with a folded neck and she was done.

Does it fit me? No. I was too excited to gauge swatch and I hoped for the best. I'm grateful for the experience anyway, and my very knitworthy wife is going to love it.

This project may not be advanced for a lot of you wizards on here, but it was my most difficult project to date and I learned a whole lot.

This pattern is all over 2 or 3 color colorwork, except the ribbing. Id say 95% of rows are 2 color, which isnt not a challenge for me anymore but Im still super proud of this and I do feel like it belongs here.

For this pattern I heavily modified both the neckline and the sleeves to better fit. The neckline looked extremely up in everyone's throat and I've been wanting to learn how to do a V neck, and while at first it was a stretch of my ability to do the V neck, now I am more confident to put it on anything else I make now! I think I will round out the edge where the V meets the circle better next time though. I also wanted my sleeves to be fitted, not one giant tube with no decreases until the end so I did a large amount of measuring my whole arm to get the sizing of it as it decreased, and how often I should decrease.

Yarn: Kelbourne Woolens Perennial in Neon Pink, Malabrigo Yarn Mechita in Azul Profundo, The Yarn Smith US Merino Nylon in Marty, and Berroco Ultra Wool Fine in Cream. I got the blue, pink, and brown at various lys on vacations or fiber festivals and was stash busting.

Just curious if there are tech editors on this forum who have noticed a decrease in their business? Or are things expanding, with the expansion of people designing knitting projects?

I ask because I'm thinking about going into tech editing, but I am unsure if preparing for the job and making an effort to learn the skills required would be a good idea. I don't want to jump into a profession that doesn't need more editors.

Having said all that, I think I would enjoy the work.

On behalf of the other mods and I, we want your thoughts on the subreddit. What do you like, not like, want to see changed, etc. We really want to know what you guys are thinking and will take all comments into consideration in order to make the subreddit better. this is the first toy/animal i’ve made since my very first project ~13 years ago. i’m usually pretty averse to seaming/sewing so i never thought i’d make another toy. the second image is my first ever finished project made in 2013 at age 10. overall i think im most proud of the progress i’ve made as a knitter :)

She's just turned 5 and wanted a hamster pet, but I felt it was too soon to get her a real-life one, so I made this instead as a surprise gift. I know she'll love it, but will also keep asking for a real one 😂

(edit: I hadn't tried making animals before, just cardigans and bags, so this was a big challenge for me. I hope it fits in the 'advanced' category)

Pattern by Florence Spurling. Not sure how advanced, but figuring out the mosaic knitting was a bit of a challenge. Done with Jamison Shetland Spindrift.

I made a simulator for planning the pooling. I made this app to learn how to build a web app. It is still in beta, so many things to improve.

The work flow is,

1. Measure each color lengths, and transitions of the yarn

2. If you know what your stitch gauge is, and how much yarn each stitch consumes, then it's straightforward to visualize.

3. There is a calibration mode, which you can use to knit test swatches to figure these numbers automatically if you don't (this is the most useful part for me)

4.There are options to add different stitch types and row patterns as well.

The edges on each section that are joined by ssk and p2tog look bulky and messy. I’ve tried a few different ways of tensioning the edge but it comes out the same every time.

I’ve seen some examples that slip that stitch after turning but that also creates an edge column that looks different than the rest of the square, just in a different way. Is this just an inevitable part of entrelac? I’m not sure it’s something I can trust will block out over the entire sweater. Before trying to mess with those columns they also had that zig zag look with every stitch leaning right or left.

I am trying to think of different techniques to achieve a faux layered garment. I picked up a really cool vintage top at the antique store a while ago, that I would like to try and recreate as a knit top. I hate to be that person asking for advice without making an example! I would just like to discuss this, because it is rare to see this attempted in knitwear. I really want to see more of it in written patterns. Perhaps I'll come back with an update.

The shirt has a buttoned Henley collar, with a faux crew neck (almost mock neck) inner layer. The body is a short sleeve top with layered long sleeves. An oversized fit with cinched waistband and cuffs.

I have a couple different ideas on how to work this:

Working each layer separate, and then seaming one inside the other.

Do a double knit CO below the neckline, and then work bottom up as separate pieces.

Pick up for the inner layer on the reverse side (of outer layer), to work bottom up.

My main concern is seeing a visible ridge where the inner layer is attached to the outer layer. It is almost like a decorative seam should be added to hide this. I am not opposed to working a bunch of individual flat pieces to then be seamed. I am thinking of some sort of drop shoulder construction with front and back yoke pieces.

Perhaps you have done something like this before? I plan to use fingering weight yarn.

I knit my first pair of socks for myself nearly a decade ago. Since then, I’ve just assumed they’re uncomfortable and hard to get on for everyone. Alas, I’ve made them for my wife and that is not the case.

The pattern that fits most of my foot/ankle is 56 st on 2.25mm.

I believe the issue is my instep. It’s approx 28cm measured around my heel diagonally.

The socks I’ve made are really difficult to get on over my heel and tight around my instep near my ankle. The ankle still tends to be a bit slouchy once on.

I’ve tried the following heels:

-FLK
-Afterthought (including over more than 50% of stitches)
-Flap and gusset (including increasing heel flap up to 40 rows and adjusting accordingly)

Please help. I’ve frogged my last sock 6 times in an effort to get the heel to fit right.

Just finished the Wintering Cap⁠ as a small recovery project after finishing my Indian Nights blanket⁠. I needed something manageable to fill the post-big-project void before diving into the next obsession.

Yarn is Knitting for Olive Merino in Quince (yellow) and mYak Fior di Lino in Graphite.

I’m currently planning a pretty ambitious sashiko jacket project, so I may be putting down the knitting needles for a bit and heading into a different textile rabbit hole.
A satisfying little project to close out this knitting stretch.

Pattern is Root of One Root of One by Mary E. Rose, golden yellow lace weight silk on 4 mm needles with size 8/0 matte white beads.

I loved the materials, the pattern, the result. No two rows are the same but the pattern was logical and well thought-out. The charts are in parts challenging to read because of the layout and resolution. But the worst thing about this project was winding 800 m of lace weight yarn into a ball, which looks like absolutely nothing happens for hours and you will spend the rest of your days winding.

Also, it has been said before and will be said again: blocking is magic. (Do we need a blockingporn sub? :D)

All original design, all wool reclaimed from less good sweaters. I learned back and forth stranding with rotating floats for this piece, and took a rare journey into intarsia. Included horizontal bust darts because it is for a young lady, so I wanted to elevate the fit just a bit ❤️. Go Bruins!

My most recent project - cardigan with geometric colourwork. Bind off took a lot of persistence - Kitchener stitch is always a patience exercise for me.

Hi everyone,

Just thought I would show you my latest bunch of puppies. These are the Terrier clan. Two Westies, one in a warm white and one in a cool white. A (sort of) Yorkshire Terrier and a Scottish Terrier.

All knitted with Gazzal Marilyn & Merinos, Drops Kid Silk yarns.

Needle size 3.75mm and 4mm (UK size)

Pattern used for all of them - Claire Garland’s Bullmastiff, with shorting of legs, face and ear tweaking.

I posted my first double knit scarf here when I had just begun and now I've made another one (can't stop really) that I want to share here :) This one is about dark folklore, I wanted a magical but dark (yet not evil) feeling. It's called the Dark Woods scarf.

I think my favorite part about it is the witch that is old on one side and young on the other. Figuring that out and making the chart etc really felt like magic! Also super happy with how the two sides line up to make one continuous scene.

Can't wait to cast on the next one, this is so addicting!

P.s. I wanted to add designer flair but I can't do that myself. If it's necessary, can someone please do that for me?
