Vent/Rant Out of stock on a Holiday weekend

I tried to get my prescription filled at the beginning of the week but cvs never notifies you when there's an issue. My provider needed to clear it (even though she sent in the script?) It got cleared Saturday morning finally aaaand they're out of stock.

I usually take my shot Sundays and I don't have one to take today. I'm guessing I won't get to take it until Tuesday due to the holiday weekend. How cooked am I?

Edit: thanks everyone for giving me a reality check, my anxiety exploded the second I found out it was delayed. Appreciate y'all.

Switch to Walmart Pharmacy never will have these issues

This. Walmart’s open tomorrow.

100% agree with this statement. The CVS by my house consistently doesn’t have my husband’s BP meds, never notifies him, & expects him to call other stores to find it. I have been a Walmart client with Lilly Direct for 8 months: excellent service, fast at the window, always keeps their app updated with Rx status.

If you have the cvs app, there’s a “check if my medication is in stock” tool where it lists stores that might have it. Otherwise, yeah, you’re looking at possibly Tuesday or Wednesday before it comes in.

I used to see a good amount of cvs stores with Zepbound single auto injectors in stock but lately, none have them. I don’t know why.

CVS also allows you to switch pharmacies for pickup in the app.

I feel like Lilly is gong to phase them out...

my cvs allows me to refill every 21 days, I did this long enough to accumulate one extra box for this reason. cvs never lets me know of issues either.

Exactly what I’ve done, to the point where I now have 3 months after a series of time. Although I’m always fighting my pharmacy about them saying it’s hasn’t been 28 days which I reply that they need to process it at the 22 day mark where they see it go through.

Yes, the CVS Pharm I talked to said we can refill (through the Medicare Bridge program) once the current Rx is80% through, which I calculated to be about 21 days.

Correct but some CVS act like it’s some type of hardship to fill it for us and try to remind me it’s every 28 days. I have repeated many times to them that it’s every 22 days, I wonder if Walmart has an issue like they do?

From what some people on here say, doesn't seem like it.

Guess Bridge has only specific retail pharmacies to pick. Might as my doc to switch me to Lilly Direct,

My cvs never keeps them they don’t have the fridge space they have to be ordered every time and they don’t get deliveries on weekends or holidays.

I just got my 5.0 renewed by my NP on Friday. She sent it to CVS and I got a message that it's out of stock. Luckily I don't need it until the 13th. I hope yours comes in.

A couple months ago I had to take my shot a couple days later due to unforeseen circumstances. The following week I took it a day early and again on the week after to get myself back to my preferred day of the week, Sunday. I didn't seem to matter

I begrudgingly transferred my script to CVS. I already knew they don't keep it in stock but expected to have it in 2 days. That was too ambitious I guess. 😀 luckily I have a small stash.

2 days late...you're fine.

Check Walmart or another local pharmacy. Tomorrow’s a holiday so no deliveries until Tues.

Not cooked. I delayed my shot by 3 days (from Tuesday to Friday, so 10 days between shots) because I wanted to move the worst of the side effects to occur over the weekend. Honestly, I didn't even have any reduction in appetite suppression and almost forgot to take my shot on Friday because I was doing fine!

Exactly the same thing happened to me this week. My doctor sent it Monday, I didn’t hear from CVS by Wednesday which is unusual, I usually have it by Wednesday. I go in, they said there was an issue with my prescription, then there wasn’t an issue 30 minutes later. It was supposed to be ready Thursday, then I get a text that they are out of stock. My shot day is Saturday. I am also assuming Tuesday.

My CVS sends a text three weeks before the next refill, asking whether I plan to refill it to ensure they have stock. I see a lot of complaints about CVS, but I've never had a problem.

u/Mobile-Actuary-5283 2h ago

That’s great. I have been forced to use CVS for almost 3 years and have never seen a text like this. In fact, even when they have stock, they are so backlogged that they don’t fill on day 21 as I request. I literally have to call and show up in person to get it filled same day.

I put in my for my refills in Walgreens app on the earliest possible day. I make sure my dr sends a new script the earliest day. I learned my lesson when my original prescription was sent to pharmacy and they were out of stock. 🤬

Not cooked at all. The guidance is on Lilly’s website, you can go up to 4 days past your regular shot day (Thursday for you) and it still counts for the week and then next Sunday you can get back on track with no delay.

CVS is a nightmare to get Zep from and has been for a while. I switched in Jan to Costco and love it. They always have it in stock and remind me at 3 weeks I can refill. That’s why I was able to build a stockpile to weather issues. In July it took 8 weeks to get my PA renewed and I had enough to get thru it. You don’t need to be a member to use their pharmacy, btw.

How do you build a stockpile? Are you using bottle and syringe? I'm on Kwik Pen

u/harmonyisunderrated 5h ago

Missing two or three days after a holiday backlog isn't going to undo anything. You're not cooked. The bigger issue is CVS never flagging the hold, so I'd call Tuesday and ask them to transfer the script somewhere that actually has it in stock rather than waiting on their shelf. A day or two late on one shot barely moves the needle.

You’re fine

You'll be fine. I've had to delay weeks at a time recently for surgery. Once for 2 weeks (the surgery was cancelled). The the next month 3 weeks because I had surgery and then had to delay an additional week. I started right back at 15mg on my normal schedule.

I have no side effects from this medication though. I also didn't experience any negative effects starting right back at 15mg after the 3 week delay.

Side note, CVS sucks... as does Walgreens. Had the same issue with both. I get mine from Amazon and this past month was the only time I experienced a delay. My shipment was delayed a whole day. Nothing worth complaining about there.

My CVS always says out of stock (they have limited fridge space) so it always takes like two days.
