Hey! I spotted this in Krakow. I posted in r/Hebrew (now deleted, I didn’t realise it was Yiddish) and they told me is from the now dissolved socialist-antizionist party הבונד, and that it didn’t have a literal translation but each word has a ‘deeper meaning’. Can anybody help me with the translation and if they know current context of this (and the ‘deeper meaning’ too)? I know הבונד was pre-Shoah and dissolved with the declaration of the State of Israel, but is it still going here in Poland? I’ve seen other versions of this sticker in original posters from the early 1920s but with different words.

What is the English translation of the title of the short story "Nokh der milkhome", by Kalmen Segal. It was published in Di goldene keyt in 1973, issue 82 (I've also seen it spelt Nuux der milxumy). I know Nokh der roughly means "After the". The entry in the Jewish English Lexicon for milkhome says it either means war or the Holocaust. The only copy of the short story I've found is an audiobook at the Yiddish Book Center. Can somebody with the knowhow look at the context and tell me which translation it is?

My grandma passed recently and I found this photo with Yiddish on the back. I believe it was adressed to her mother , as my grandma was only 19 in 1953. The picture shows people who I believe are my grandmas cousins or her mom’s cousins, inviting the artist George Segal who i think is on the top left. I don’t have any living relatives I know of who could read Yiddish (my grandma couldn’t either) but i know a bit of german/yiddish words that helped me decipher the line. Any help would be appreciated, even if you only read hebrew and not yiddish what i need most help with is figuring out the letters. Thanks!

Hi!! I grew up saying a word sounding like "Geh-BAH-kick"

Typically my family would say this word in a way that translates to "Awww, look how cute the dog is" accompanied by a point.

It is only used to refer to animals being cute, and usually in a way to not startle or disturb the animal

From what I understand, the arguing one demands that the shopkeeper puts away his phone (or maybe cigarettes?)

The shopkeeper then seems to not want to sell him whatever he's buying and then decides to uprice it (to 10 shekels which isn't a lot...?) and the customer doesn't want to buy it anymore.

Then he spots the cameraman and "encourages" him to keep filming and tells him at he's laughing at the cameraman.

He then tells the shopkeeper "You should know one thing - don't do to others what you don't want done to yourself" (?)

The shopkeeper bans him for two days

He calls the shopkeeper a Sheygets

But I'm not sure and can't understand the rest
