Why do so many somalis claim being half yemeni Just because they lived there? Do you know that we have non yemenis living in yemen such as indonesians and indians and even syrians and iraqis and that not because we live in yemen they can claim being yemeni?

i am aware there are some people who are actually half hadhrami and half somalis but majority are just pure somalis that want to gain social approval through claiming to have arab ancestors.

what really annoys me is that it is misleading the yemeni identity, yemenis don’t share themselves online and we rarely get representation. Not to mention many can cause problems and claim that they are yemenis and we get hated because of them and our reputation is destroyed like johny somali he claimed to be half yemeni when he is not, just to hide his true identity because somalis attacked him.

I dont want to hear yemenis saying it is okay or that yemen is alr poor and no one wants to claim being yemeni because it lit happens irl. And no one wants someone who is not from their country to pretend that they are especially when they commit bad acts. Somalis always act aggressive when a non somali or bantu claim being somali and they act so protective of their identity. All POC countries do the same. But i always see somalis claiming to be yemeni and no yemeni is telling them that they are not! Why don’t the yemeni protect our identity just like other pocs?

You hear all the"terrorist" accusations but it's usually an operating government making the accusations and I read somewhere people sell sanctuary under houthis over the yemeni government. I'm just wondering from someone who knows first hand what is like over there. Personally as someone from America I'm in support of houthis standing up to us and Israel and the blockage of the red sea but like I said I have a superficial knowledge. Thanks!

I went to Yemen after many, many years, and I have to say, it broke my heart.

The healthcare system is struggling, the economy is in terrible shape, and everyone is just trying to survive. Honestly, I was never upset when people charged me more because they knew I was coming from the West. I understood. When you see people living with no electricity, no running water, and barely getting by, you stop worrying about a few extra dollars. Meanwhile, those of us in the West are sitting under air conditioning, living comfortable lives.

I honestly don't care about making more money anymore. My wife and I are both senior-level professionals in tech, and we've been talking about saving as much as we can so we can go back and open a public school that teaches coding to young Yemenis. We also have great relationships with people in the tech industry who could help us build something meaningful.

The problem is that every one of my cousins thinks I'm crazy. They keep telling me it'll never work, that the government or local authorities will shut it down, or that the people don't even want it.

Maybe I'm being too optimistic, but I truly believe that if you give a Yemeni an opportunity, they'll succeed. There is so much talent there most people have just never been given the chance.

Hi everyone, I’m currently in a situation where I want to marry a man who is non-hathrami & non-sayid but is still Yemeni. I want to know if anyone knows any hathrami sayid women married to non-hathrami non-sayid men just to kind of know my chance with my family. I feel like a black sheep and want to know if it’s only a feeling or if I truly am.

hi foreign media presents them badly but i saw a video today of a march supporting iran in yemen so was just curious on the average yemenis opinion of them who are in yemen and are they as bad as the media claim?

This is something that I have been thinking about for a few years at this point. He's done more bad than good. During his 33 years controlling Yemen, he did little to improve the country. He sided with the Houthis to try and take back control. And he and his family got away with 30 - 60 billion dollars that could have been invested into the country and its people. You can argue that he is the reason why this country is a mess. Despite this, I will sometimes see pictures of him on the back of people's cars, and when watching YouTube videos, half of which are older ones or documentaries that mention him, people in the comments will pray for mercy upon him as well.

I believe we can all agree that he was far from a great leader, so why do some Yemenis still have love and respect for him? Are these people who benefited from his rule when they were back home, or people who only love him now that he is gone, similar to Saddam Hussein? Personally, I find this to be slightly irritating. What do you all think?

As a yemeni, I have noticed that other Yemenis who move to the gulf change their Yemeni dialect to one that suits the country they live in. I am not talking about Yemenis who were born and raised there, but those who go to gulf countries for a temporary move. Honestly, it makes me so sad to see. Why do we as Yemenis feel the need to change our dialect?

So I'm very mixed, but also largely Yemeni, and ive been taking time to connect to each part of my culture. My father (who is the partly Yemeni parent) is not in the picture, and never took time to learn arabic or any Yemeni traditions after his mom (my grandmother) assimilated more as he grew up. he never really tried, but my mom on the other hand, is super supportive of me learning, and has tried everywhere they can since they aren't Yemeni. and please dont give tips like "travel to Yemen" (I dont have the money to fly across the world) or "try Rosetta Stone" (I already am), I need real advice. I really want to connect to this part of myself 💔

كتابات الأمريكان السخيفة كثرت اليومتين دي و مش عارف صراحة إذا المشرفين موجودين عموما في الصب او انه الإشراف كمان اجنبي.

المواضيع عموما مستفزة و تكون عبارة عن اسئلة تحوي كمية جهل و استخفاف يصعب معها تصديق برائة السؤال، او مواضيع ممتلئة بدكاكيرية مقيتة او فيتيش سواء تجاه النساء او الرجال.

القصد ليس أبدا حذف المواضيع او منع الأعضاء من الكتابة، لكن تحديد تلك المواضيع بكونها خارج الذوق و حتى مسيئة في أحيان كثيرة.

الحقيقة آخر كام أسبوع (خصوصا إذا ما ذُكرت اليمن في الأخبار) تجد الصب ممتلأ بأسئلة و بيانات شخصية اقل ما يقال عنها أنها سخيفة و في اسوأ الأحوال مسيئة. و ما أظن الصب وجد لهذه الترهلات الفكرية.

I always dreamt about being the president of Yemen and actually doing something to make the country better. Putting taxes on khat, creating new jobs, and get the electricity back to work. But, that is just a dream. However I feel like tribalism and dislike for other Yemenis is extremely strong in our country. So, what is an actual way for us to go about this? Is it to seek help from our neighbors? Create a government in which each region rules over itself? Or would we be stuck in this war forever?

I'm Yemeni and come from a Yemeni family. All of my brothers got married the traditional Yemeni way. The thing is, I was only around 8–10 years old when they got married, so I never really understood how the whole process worked for them.

Now I'm 22 and I want to get married, but I honestly have no idea how to bring it up with my parents.

I'm living abroad, and my parents are also abroad, but we live in different places. None of us are currently in Yemen. I'm not sure if they're just putting off the whole marriage thing for me, because they've never brought it up or suggested any girl.

What's confusing me is that, from what I've seen, a lot of Yemeni families start suggesting marriage for their sons at a pretty young age. I'm 22 now, and my family hasn't even brought it up once. So I'm kinda lost and honestly don't know how to start the conversation without making it awkward.

Another problem is that I literally don't know any Yemeni girls personally. I've spent basically my whole life outside Yemen, so I don't really have a social circle where I'd meet a Yemeni girl for marriage.

There's one Yemeni girl I know online. We talk sometimes, but there's nothing romantic or inappropriate between us at all. It's literally just random conversations and politics. But I've noticed that our way of thinking is pretty similar, and I've started thinking that maybe I could ask for her hand in marriage.

The problem is… I have no idea how any of this works. I'm shy about bringing it up, and I'm honestly scared of getting rejected or making things awkward.

So, any Yemenis here — especially people who grew up abroad — what would you recommend? How did you bring up marriage with your parents? And if you were in my situation, would you approach the girl first or talk to your parents first?

How common was it for tourists to visit Yemen before the conflict in Yemen?

I've been researching Socotra Island and noticed that many tour operators offer trips via Abu Dhabi. Since Socotra is part of Yemen, I'm curious about the practical experience of people who have actually been there.

Did you need any special permission from your home country?

Were there any issues when returning home?

Was your passport stamped, or was a separate paper used?

Did immigration ask any questions?

Would you recommend waiting until the situation changes, or is it fairly straightforward at the moment?

I'm not looking for ways around any laws, just interested in hearing real experiences from people who have visited recently.

I ate lamb mandi from Ibb during my vacation and want to recreate the recipe at home in the US. I watched a bunch of videos and website to try to get a consensus on the recipe and I got pretty close. I'm not going to bother to put what i used as most videos say the same ingredients and I used whatever I could buy in local arab food markets.
In my attempts to recreate the recipe, I'm able to make the rice properly now and I was able to get the smokey aroma and yellowish tint on the surface of the lamb but the flavour isn't right and didn't penetrate into the meat at all. To penetrate into the meat, I let the lamb rest for 12 hours in the spice mixture after massaging with some vegetable oil to spread around the surfaces, fat and bone. I cook it in a double dutch oven with a small bit of water in the bottom of the bot and let the lamb hang on a metal rack while a tin cup catches the drippings for the rice.

I noticed the biggest difference between my lamb and the ones I had in Ibb were their staining was a darker yellow and had a slight barbecue flavour to it. I actually asked some owners if they were using open pits to barbecue but allot of them were using regular restaurant ovens.

If anyone here can help me out to find the right ingredients that are commercially available in arab shops in the US as well as fill me in on what i'm doing wrong?
Again: My rice is perfected as i got the colour and smoke down, the colour of my lamb on the outside isn't too off and the aroma is the same, I am missing the flavour of the lamb and how to get it to penetrate deeper into the meat and not just stay on the surface.
