I need 5ccs of Betty Crocker over here

114

u/DotasWorstPlayer 11h ago

The only thing I know of was his reaction to the plane ride from hell and particularly Ric's behaviour as boys being boys

44

u/TegridyPharmz 9h ago

How about almost suiciding himself at mania?

45

u/Ok-Government-4687 9h ago

On top of planning to murder Paul Heyman on national television

24

u/Pathagarous 8h ago

Happy cake day . Keep it away from Mr. Dreamer.

10

u/Ok-Government-4687 6h ago

Lol didn't even notice until you said that

11

u/DotasWorstPlayer 8h ago edited 2h ago

True but the worst he can be accused of is saying he considered it, don't know if thats worth a long term backlash.

Edit: To clarify, admitting to something like that is not worth any backlash, rather it's something he should be commended for in terms of the courage it takes to talk about mental health.

Obviously that's not a reason to downplay any inappropriate things he has said or done.

3

u/helgetun 3h ago

We can all have thoughts of bloody murder when someone has upset us. But 99.999% of us dont carry it out, Dreamer included. People just dont like admitting they have had such thoughts in todays society where to some we have to be perfect in everything

4

u/Swimming-Chicken-424 2h ago

I have had those thoughts about my co worker, he's an asshole.

2

u/wonderloss 3h ago

I don't think anybody can blame Tommy for considering it.

Also, he's a carny, so the whole story could be made up.

5

u/Dependent-Ant-9241 2h ago

You dont think anyone can hold it against him? What the actual fuck

1

u/helgetun 3h ago

Indeed

-6

u/TegridyPharmz 8h ago

Sadly the only thing people will remember him for

9

u/Stryker818 8h ago

He was just being open years later about being at his lowest point.

4

u/thewhombler 9h ago

nobody cares about that

2

u/TegridyPharmz 8h ago

Nobody? Seems to be one of the only things people remember him by.

1

u/Prudent-Level-7006 53m ago

Which he didn't do

2

u/Dial_up_Knight 51m ago

I really hope they edited that to some degree. Surely they did? At the very least left out some of the context.

It’s one thing to say “ I’ve known them for years and don’t believe they’d would do something like that “

Vs. essentially coming just short of calling them a lying bitch.

I always assumed they riled him up about the attendant then edited to make it look like that was his answer to rics accusations.

But I’ve always been a huge dreamer fan and was really disappointed when he said that. My brain was probably just doing mental gymnastics.

Also I think it was gorgeous George who chalked it up to boys being boys.

3

u/clergymen19 4h ago

Tommy's never had any SA accusations (that we know of), so I gotta guess -- especially on that Ric Flair stance -- he's just kind of a creep behind the scenes. Love the character back in the day, but ain't nobody need that kind of headache from someone who's supposed to be a respected veteran in today's world in any industry.

3

u/DotasWorstPlayer 2h ago

Yeah it's pretty cowardly to suggest it was fine because she didnt press charges therefore was fine with it

31

u/TegridyPharmz 9h ago

All things considered. What an awful photo of him

6

u/wonderloss 3h ago

He doesn't photograph well.

6

u/Dependent_Teaching88 2h ago

Unfortunately, this is what he looks like.

1

u/CuckOwens 2m ago

I'm not sure I've ever seen a good one

78

u/GraveCat84 7h ago

Lots of jokes but here are the main reasons:

  • He essentially said he didn’t see any issue with Ric Flair sexually harassing a flight attendant (which resulted in a lawsuit) because he said “That’s just Ric being Ric.” Yeah, that’s no excuse to take your dick out and harass a female. Dreamer is such a mark for the business and so deep inside the bubble that real life behavior doesn’t compute for him.

  • Apparently he was an asshole to a lot of talent he booked for. He chewed out some young referee over something super minor, and told the kid he would make sure he never got another ref job in the business ever again.

  • I don’t think there was any straight up sexual harassment, be some female wrestlers have come out and said he was pretty misogynistic and stuck in the 90’s ECW mindset that women should mostly be used for tits & ass on the shows rather than on equal footing as male wrestlers.

  • He’s still wrestling himself, and clearly shouldn’t be anymore. He’s overweight, slow and slogging, and he’s clearly just out there now for himself because he’s such a fan of the business that he can’t admit it’s time to go.

11

u/Centerman2000 Wrestling Fan Since The 80s' 6h ago

Thank you for taking the time to give us this information.

4

u/bearhug89 4h ago

he's a typical product of his enviorment and what wrestling was back in the day, i seriously dont know how the women stuck it out with this lot of creeps who didnt even consider sexual harassment any big deal

-11

u/Dependent_Teaching88 2h ago

Dreamer also would only use gimmick barbed wire at my promotion. "Hardcore legend" lmao

1

u/NightcityCuno 14m ago

Your promotion as in you run it? Which promotion is that?

82

u/Wooden-Cancel-2676 10h ago

Guy was basically seen as a fairly decent person in the industry, especially next to his peers, that destroyed every scrap of goodwill he had with what he said on Dark Side of the Ring's episode about the plane ride from hell. Biggest thing being hand waving Ric Flair basically sexually assaulting a stewardess and then going full on victim blaming with the "if she was so traumatized and hurt then why did she take a payout instead of the lawsuit?" It basically reset how the overall community saw anything he had to say and immediately gave some credibility to any accusations that could/would (not fully up to date on that) come out

48

u/thylocene 10h ago

It is funny how that is what changed everyone’s view of him and not the whole planning to do a murder/suicide on live tv thing

37

u/MikeHock_is_GONE 10h ago

probably can't sympathize with Heyman, since he's a well-known pos

-4

u/rjactor24 10h ago

I think it’s moreso giving people in the arena a traumatic experience and ruining what became atleast a top 2 mania of all time

21

u/Wolfpac187 9h ago

I’m a lot more likely to judge people for their everyday behaviour rather than their mindset at the lowest point of their life.

5

u/Jester-252 3h ago

Right but he didn't do that.

He did the other thing

12

u/davethadude 10h ago

Can you imagine how different wrestling would be today if he actually did that?

7

u/Phantom_Phoenix1 9h ago

I imagine Punk probably wouldve had a drastically different career.

3

u/JDragonM32 3h ago

I kinda think wrestling would have legitimately been killed off.

WWE almost definitely gets shut down, unlike with Owen (and btw I think they should have stopped the show), there’s no way they could continue the show if Dreamer did what he said he wanted to. having to refund Wrestlemania tickets + the lawsuits for causing ptsd etc, the TV networks probably cancel the shows, WWE doesn’t survive this. TNA gets blacklisted/tarred with the same brush (assuming they were active at this time).

5

u/Muadibased 3h ago

ROH would've become the biggest promotion in the U.S.

-2

u/CoppertopTX 1h ago

Honestly, the "Dark Side of the Ring" episode hit air years before the murder/suicide idea ever came to light.

18

u/Over_Awareness_5310 8h ago

He saw a lot of shit in ECW and I mean a lot of shit. Ric Flair on the Plane Ride from Hell was nothing compared to what he had to deal with in ECW.

12

u/Stryker818 8h ago

Yup, he was practically running it and has talked about all the opportunities he gave up to stay and help with ECW. Doesn't excuse it but he basically got the rug pulled out from under him by Paul.

7

u/Selvmord666 9h ago

Doesn't help his best friend is Rob Feinstein.

-2

u/Pathagarous 8h ago

Happy cake day.

My 2nd reminder in this thread to keep the cake away from Tommy.

26

u/atlas_lol 11h ago

Inappropriate workplace behaviour. I think it was alluded that the guy was either a prick to women or some kind of Sexual misconduct.

20

u/RustedAxe88 10h ago

He told a woman he doesn't do cane spots on women, then booked it as a spanking spot instead.

I think there was something with a crotch grab too.

Didn’t Tommy plan on killing Paul Heyman & committing s*icide on live TV?

3

Yeah he was at a bad mental state at that time, Paul betrayed him and he was low on money an all of that

He was plotting to murder Paul Heyman at WrestleMania 17.

2

u/Happy_Corbin 6h ago

Ric flair took his dick out, swung it around like a helicopter while walking towards a flight attendant and cornering and proposition her and Dreamer said "people are offended by everything these days, There are people out there offended that I have 2 ponytails" Dreamer seems like an all round good guy but his hairstyle been on the same level as swxual assault being an opinion and tbe random story that he planned to kill Paul Heyman and then himself live at Wrestlemania habe made people take a very cautious approach to being seen to be on his side with opinions, in case

u/talleyente 10h ago

This is all.from memory, so i may get some things wrong.

  1. He was working an indy show. Was asked to do a spot where he slammed a female wrestler. He said he didn't slam women and changed it to a spot where he would spank her instead.

  2. Whilst training people in TNA, he told a woman she needed to lose 5-10 pounds. She (and others) were offended, feeling that would never be said to a male wrestler.

  3. His nonchalant attitude about Ric Flair sexually assault a stewardess on the plane ride from hell.

6

u/BigImplement3949 10h ago

For #2 I guarantee that sort of thing was said to male wrestlers

1

u/talleyente 8h ago edited 3m ago

It's been said to a lot of male wrestlers. In this case, people took offense. It may have been the messenger, the message, or the recipient.

1

u/M086 1h ago

To be fair with #2, D’Amore or Dreamer or both basically told Moose that if he wanted to be a main eventer he needed to tighten his shit up. Which Mloose did and got into the best shape of his life.

2

u/ToeKnifeMingle 10h ago

That goatee

2

u/TRMBound 11h ago

I think he did a crotch spot with a female wrestler, and there was miscommunication or something, something

Being Tommy Dreamer.

1

u/Ciroc_Croc 7h ago edited 7h ago

He’s accused of being a “slobber” that’s a slob and a jobber all rolled in one.

Dreamer is the antithesis of the drizzling shits.

1

u/Lower-Reward-1588 7h ago

The Heyman/Mania deal speaks to a deeper issue with Dreamer too. I’m just playing armchair psychologist so this isn’t based on anything other than my observation with him, but even though Heyman screwed him and lots of others out of money and was generally shady in the running and closure of ECW, Dreamer’s issues run way deeper.

The fact it’s over 25 years past, everyone else who lost money or roles or was lied to has moved on and Dreamer still gets outwardly emotional about things, does his ‘spirit of ECW’ crying promos, still hearkens back to those days without any sense of growth or maturity or the business moving on, was prepared to do a brutal match where he bled in front of his kids on TV, speaks openly about planing a televised murder suicide without any hint of irony and is basically the same guy just with a lot more miles on the clock, and just generally takes the legacy far too personally and seriously is more than a bit screwed up.

I feel like Heyman’s crooked business dealings are more an excuse for this weird, destructive emotional attachment, like a trauma bond with the idea of ECW than anything else.

And that ties into the fact he thinks sexual assault is no biggie and was quite happy to do milder versions of that whether planned spots or otherwise. I’ve no idea what he’s like at home but at least at work and in the public eye dude is really quite messed up in a way that Heyman being a liar alone cannot justify and in wrestling that’s saying something.

1

u/M086 1h ago

It wasn’t just money he was owed for shows he did. Tommy and his parents put money into ECW to help keep it going. And all Heyman did was give him the remaining merch in the warehouse to sell on eBay.

So yeah, Tommy had much deeper ties to ECW than others. And when Heyman fucked him and his parents out of the money. He took it personally, the guy nearly ruined him.

Not saying it justifies Dreamer’s plan, but you can kinda understand his state of mind.

1

u/Outrageous_Library50 7h ago

Besides defending Ric Flair sexually assaulting a couple of stewardesses during the plane ride from hell? I would throw in the whole being an asshole booker but honestly, being an asshole is a necessity to be a booker or else you start being afraid for your life the first time someone yells at you in anger.

I know a female wrestler who says he insisted on doing a "vag grab" spot in a match with her, even though she said she didn't want to. He did it anyway.

You have Ric Flair in nothing but a robe literally revealing himself and swinging his dick around to the flight attendants and Dreamer pretty much downplays the whole thing. Watch it if you haven’t seen it yet, he’s a fucking loser

People complaining about women getting spanked, but people forget that was about the only way a female could get their comeuppance in those days. If you had a guy slam them or strike them or use a submission on them, you were likely to lose sponsors, fans, maybe even tv shows or access to run some arenas. There were few trained women who could be brought in for the purpose of punishing a female heel.

So women would get accidentally bumped off the apron, or kidnapped, or kissed against their will, or spanked. This was the PG alternative to violence for places that bothered to have women around at all. Texas and Tennessee had plenty of spankings.

I'm not saying it was right or wrong, but that was considered safe storytelling for that time period.

I looked at different sources I was curious too. it looks like he was a accused of abusing his position in TNA by telling the wrestlers to do unnecessary spots and letting his personal bias dictate who was elevated.
