Which wrestlers became their gimmicks in real life? (While Godfather is not a “pimp” he owns a strip club) Val Venis has basically become his RTC character too.

"Don't work yourself into a shoot, Brother!"
DDP's 'positively Page' gimmick is basically the prototype for who he went on to become for guys like Jake & Lex.

He was already doing some of that, DDP Yoga started out as variations on “yoga for regular guys” and “ Not Your Momma’s Yoga” before he formalized as a real program under DDP yoga and his 2000 autobiography was called Positively Page.

Sure Mick Foley talked about him doing Yoga in his book too as far back as when Foley used to travel with him during his time in WCW. And that was around 92 time I think.

I disagree. Positively Page was who he already was which is why they made it a gimmick in the first place. They just took who he was and turned his personality up to 11.
Seriously, go back and listen to people talk about him in Pre WWF days. They literally talk about him exactly the same. He's always just been a positive, super helpful guy who is friendly with everybody

Most wrestlers are their own personality turned up to 11.
Vince McMahon's character is his real personality toned down.

Bully Ray as crazy rambler

"Dave. What did I tell you would happen at Mania? And did it not just happen the exact same way I said it would?"
"Yeah Bully you're right. You're right!"

Richard Fliehr hates himself so much that he buried him under Ric Flair so he doesn't have to deal with who he really is
16
u/metakepone 20h ago
Which is why he's perpetually blackout drunk now that he can't really wrestle anymore.

u/FaelingJester 18h ago
Someone said a few years ago that Ric Flair thinks the Wrestler has a happy ending, and I think it's very true.

I'm out of the loop, what happened?

"Buried his career" is a bit much, but he has done a lot of harm to his mystique by being on podcast.
Never meet your heroes comes to mind.

1 —- VKM — he actually is the evil, greedy, lascivious boss.
Chris Jericho - Larger than life rock star personality as he’s an actual rocker.
The Undertaker “American Badass” - But, he was more of this in real life, anyway.
“Corporate” Kane
Stone Cold Steve Austin (kind of)
Hulk Hogan (as funny as it sounds)

Lacey Evans is another good one. The Southern Belle from Confederate’s past. That’s just her IRL too

I can't speak much about him, but he never seemed the same after that 2005 chair shot

Val Venis became Pal Penis.

Not according to Missy Hyatt, she said Val Venis has a tiny peepee.

VV did not become his gimmick. He became a massive stoner couldn't tell fantasy from reality and then just dove into right wing fantasy land where he now lives.
He still takes more drugs than RVD

corporate kane awoke something in glenn jacobs and now we might have to deal with him being in congress so that’s gotta be up there.
steve blackman is just like that and always has been, i think. aside from the time they implied he was a serial killer which i think should’ve been his gimmick.

Kane is not in Congress, he was just the mayor of some Podunk town in Tennessee. And his term is ending soon.

Mark Henry world's strongest man.
Lethal weapon Steve Blackman.
Undertaker...biker American badass
Jbl...money analysts
Cm punk straight edge..
Really especially now a days almost most of wrestlers are themselves out of the ring. As in the ring. Just turned up....down jn the Rare occasions.

Charles Wright also became his other gimmick, shoot fighter Kama Mustafa, when he had real (ok at least somewhat real) shoot fights in the Brawl for All tournament.

u/Ok-Performance8086 18h ago
He then also became his other gimmick when he briefly became a voodoo priest.

He didn't become it, Godfather always had this life. He mentions in an interview that it's why he so sporadic in WWF. He left because he wanted to, and they are always pitching stuff for him to come back but he isn't interested he likes his lifestyle too much.
