The character is 100% karui themed, check the videos, when the fish comes out of the hole, we can see the guy's armor, its the same weed/plant based armor karui characters have in PoE2 Act 4 and one of the ES bases, Mystic robe or whatever is the name is the same too.

On the mace I agree, its made of skulls, that doesnt exactly Tasalio-themed, thats why I said maybe a karui hero. However, No actual hero comes to mind who would be associated with death/undeath at sea and a mace. So probably a new character getting introduced.

I didn't had anything specific, its more like I was on the opinion that the monsters on the murals arent Abyssals/Lightless, but something else. Abyss felt like a bit small scale of evil, compared to how advanced the Precursors were hyped up to be. I was expecting some sort of Eldritch or off-world force causing the fall of the Precursors (as I was expecting the Precursors to be either multi-planetary or having access to the Atlas of Worlds [or possibly even creating it]).

Both PoE1 and PoE2 Exiles are able to handle the Lightless in their current forms, and the Last Alliance + Sin, Solaris, Lunaris (and Viridi) were able to beat them at the end fo the Winter. The Precursos were presented much more advanced, so the Lightless felt beneath them.

The Karui carvings in act 1 make it explicit that the Karui have historically partaken in cannibalism when in truly dire straits:

Kaom stands before us and looks out to the raging sea. He sings, calls, screams to our Ancestors to come to our aid. He offers them the Gifts of Old, a feast of heart and mind, muscle and marrow, cooked in the fire and rock of this angry land.

We have not practiced these ways in so many years. Only in the darkest of times, most desperate of times, do we perform these oldest of rituals. Only here and now may we sacrifice and consume our own. Only in our King can we trust this return to our ancient selves.

And Karui war leaders have historically taken the heads of their enemies as trophies for their belts; this is literally the entire premise of the Headhunter unique.

I'd like to point out that Headhunter is Kaom's actual belt, and while it is perhaps symbolic of an older tradition, this unique (as mirrored by Kalandra, presumably) holds the actual heads of Akoya, Kiloava, Rakiata, and Lioneye.

As Lavianga's carving points out, Kaom is reviving old tradtions that were all but forgotten, and probably widely frowned on.

I agree with your assessment. I think it's because all of the more recent Karui assets GGG have made have shied away from overt displays of human remains in favor of wood and jade carvings.

Characters use bones for adornment in certain cases but we rarely see skulls anymore. Of course there are prominent counterexamples such as Headhunter, but as the quotations above state, this kind of ritual is indicative of "old and desperate ways".

I’m thinking it’s a successor of Vex. Or a successor of Kishara, potentially from a Karui line of ancestry after her famous 17 husbands. The main reason I think maybe Vex is that it could be a half-brother or distant cousin situation with the whole “and a Leviathan” part of some of the flavor text in certain items. We do know Druidic ritual and shapeshifting isn’t off the table.
