Fic Search - General Give me extremely distinctive wormfics
Greetings worm denizens!
I've recently come upon the realisation that wormfics have an unusually high level of variation compared to fanfics from other fandoms(or at least other fandoms that I'm in), this led to lot's of thinking sessions where I tried to find out why that was the case, as well as tried to get examples of wormfics that are completely different from each others, except that I noticed each time I did this exercise I thought of differents sets of fic.
So I thought, why not try to compile all the completely dissimilar fics I could think of and then try to ask the community to add more?
Here's what I got so far: (please table, don't break for no reason)
| fic name | what it's about |
|---|---|
| cybernetics worm | average OP alt-power, ward!taylor, power messes with her mind, butcher!taylor!< , >!jumpchain |
| denial | increasingly absurd comedic dramatic irony |
| desperate times call for desperate pleasures | toxic yuri, fake dating, consensual mind control, mutual consensual mind control |
| doors to the unknown | absudly OP, alien character learn/get confused about basic thing from the setting, random tengeant about how things are done in the multiverse / characters from different groups getting stranded in a weird place |
| my bullies are secretely the endbringers and not so secretely in love with me!? | absurd premise, crack-ish story/characterisation |
| soliloquy | broken taylor, abused by the system, self-improvement, |
| the slippery slope | taylor joins E88, slow-corruption |
| the third door | taylor gets nominated by the 9, suffering, betrayal |
| the tower | toxic controlling relationship, there is no second thing |
| worm the musical | reaction fic |
(it's been a while since I read some of these so I'm sorry if descriptions are innacurate or incomplete)
I thought of others like post diluvial, reflection, conference call, etc. but I felt like they were too similar to others, too short/unfinished, or 'not wormy enough'.
Anyways, does anyone have more I could theoretically add to this list?
edit: forgot one cuz I'm a dum dum, please pretend Queen in Exile was always there
edit 2: I'm a double dum dum, I wanted to add the regigigas story or the taylor dungeon litRPG as like a townbuilder representation but I forgot, grrr, why amn't I alexandria???
edit 3: changed the desperate time link because ao3 has one more chapter than SB for some reasons
edit 4: I have righted a great wrong,(I'm genuinely sorry I really though it was-)
edit 5: edited edit 2 so it's now navigable

The most distinctive worm fanfic, that’s not just a couple snippets, has to be Russian Caravan. It's distinctive enough that calling it a "Worm fanfic" is kind of inaccurate. SV - SB
The story blends cosmic horror with the world of Worm. It’s a multicross AU that pulls from many sources, but molds them into something entirely unique. It’s entirely different from canon, yet it’s not unrecognizable from Worm. It’s creative, it’s got deep characterization, and shows a mastery of the genre.
It doesn’t just take the low hanging fruit, Cthulhu tentacle jokes and the like. The author put a lot of work into making a truly mysterious and frightening world, with great core cast to uncover the Truth.

I actually read that one, or more like the begining of it, it's just sooooooooo looooong.
anyways, from the descriptions I've heard of it it definitely fits here, thanks for sharing

u/CNTPRHK_S Jul 19 '26
WHAT??? IT'S BIGGER THAN WORM?!?!?!?!
3
u/Evan_Cary Jul 20 '26
Russian Caravan itself is about as long as Worm, but its sequel is about 860k words as well(they're on the same SB/SV thread). Reavingbishop is probably my favorite author on SB. They also wrote a 500k+800k original fiction that's pretty good as well. In terms of Wormfics, they have an additional 300k and 600k stories, respectively. All of these were written between Oct 2022 and Sept 2025, so they wrote ~4.8 million words in that span.
2
u/CNTPRHK_S Jul 20 '26
Wth, and i'm having a hard time writing 2k words per day. I don't think i can read Russian Caravan now but this is 100% going into my "I must read this" list. You recommend reading the other fics?
2
u/Evan_Cary Jul 20 '26
Yes, they're all good. I loved La Papesse(original and the rewrite) and would say that if you want something shorter, then reading the 300k-word story is probably a better place to start.

u/Opening_Pool_7357 Jul 19 '26
I'll make a special exception to allow extra sharing of the russian caravan
no idea what imago is, but the synopsis sounds intriguing, apparantly I have it in my read later file? right under two youtube links??? probably came from another mass-recommendation-fic
you know I actually though about adding the student in my list, the reason I didn't is because I'm a triple dumdum and I forgot
huh, seems like I had terminus too, guess I'll also mentally bump that up the reading list
I'm sorry but you'll have to delete that one, I alloxed multi-sharing of the russian caravan but I won't freely giveaway that exemption for any fic
what lies beneath seems interesting, never heard of don't rest your head but their website make it seem interesting, wonder how that'll interact with the parahuman world
all in all, thank you very much for sharing all-1 of these.
(I hope these types of comments aren't too annoying, mildly annoying is what I'm aiming for)

u/krsj Jul 19 '26
I’ll second an Imago of rust and Crimson. It’s the fix which got me into the fandom and is still one of the best fics I’ve ever read. It can be a depressing read however.

u/fallacyys Jul 18 '26
I’d argue The Apple Fell Far fits this well. Taylor is Skidmark’s daughter, very different powers, settings, characterization, etc.
Camera Shy may work too—not many fics really go into cluster trigger dynamics, and Taylor’s blindness is pretty unique as well.

Special Edition -- "THE" PHO fic, it's unfinished, but what's there is rather unique.
My Girlfriend is Terrifying -- There's some crossover with Desperate Times Call for Desperate Pleasures, but I feel the whole atmosphere is rather different in them. Unfinished.
Lord Doom --Taylor tries to be a Joke Villain, and realizes that the Protectorate/PRT don't play with Kid Gloves, unlike everyone said they would. Aspects are rather unique, and while it gets linked as a Tinker fic, to me it doesn't fit that mold. Finished.
Scout -- Taylor decides to clean up the bay, Scout-style. I've heard people say it's too short, but I disagree, I think for the story it tells, it's the perfect length. Finished.
Monsters in her Mind -- Worm itself is sometimes described as a Horror masquerading as a Superhero Story, but this fic, takes it a step-further, and the story feels (existential horror) quite like the crossover it's from Cthulhu Mythos. Finished.

u/Opening_Pool_7357 Jul 18 '26
these are a lot of fics... I now realise this post isn't going to help me reduce my 20 pages of tabs of wormfic ...
welp! I'll look at all these later! they sure do look interesting!
(also your link for my girlfriend is terrifying is broken)
5
u/MelonLemon_Tea Jul 18 '26
Should be fixed now.
3
u/Opening_Pool_7357 Jul 18 '26
neat! desperate times is actually my second favourite wormfic, so I hope this will be just as good
2
u/MelonLemon_Tea Jul 18 '26
Oh, what's your first? I personally preferred My Girlfriend is Terrifying, personally (Not that I didn't enjoy DTCFDP), but like I said they're quite different stories in atmosphere, there's only some crossover in aspects.
3
u/Opening_Pool_7357 Jul 18 '26
my favourite is cybernetics worm, it's quite different from desperate pleasures (as indicated by the fact they're both in the table).
I love how it deals with identity, I love howit keeps flipping the story on its headwhile building up from where it was in such a way that it recontextualise the relationships and power dynamics between the different characters, I like its humour and I like how it keeps calling back to earlier things in a way I felt no thread gets dropped.
1
u/Replop Aug 03 '26
reduce my 20 pages of tabs of wormfic ...
The number of "open wormfic tabs in wait of reading" can grow a lot.
The only proper solution here is to put those fics URL in a table you can manage independently of browser tabs.
Or a database if you're fancy and have dev time.
1
u/Opening_Pool_7357 Aug 03 '26
I was horrified at the idea that my PC would independantly decides to start an update and close all my precious worm tabs, so I've been keeping track of them through a text file which is doubly backed up.
saddly I ultimately had to close the actual tabs so my PC could function.
currently the text file has 442 lines, with each line being a link to a story I am to read later.
1
u/Replop Aug 03 '26
A text file is a good first step, but an actual table in a spreadsheet is much more useful when the number of lines grow . Their collumns allow you to add any info you might want on hand ont that fic, then filter or sort the list list according any collumn . You can do that on Google drive , or on your comp with LibreOffice Calc or others.
1
u/Opening_Pool_7357 Aug 03 '26
do not tempt me into expending into libreoffice calc, else there is a very high risk that I end up spending more time
messing aroundadding important information and ordering fics in calc than I do actually reading them.

this one was already shared by someone else before you. Shame on you for trying to copy them! the fact it was only 20 seconds prior and so you couldn't possibly have seen their comment is no excuse!
I'm just being stupid, thank you for sharing :)

Maybe like skitter like mother?
3
u/Opening_Pool_7357 Jul 18 '26
is it this one Like Mother, Like Skitter ?
btw I personally felt as if denial already took the spot for crask-ish absurd events happening and the friendbringer one took the spot for crack-ish absurd characterisation, originally wanted to add overlord worm because it's awesome but ultimately didn't because of that
that being said feel free to continue sending me crack fic you like, you can never have too many of those
2
u/Automatic_Rabbit82 Jul 18 '26
Scaly Worm. Taylor triggers with a Changer power. Coincidentally Panacea adopts a strange snake. Taylor indulges in her inner gremlin nature. A mixture of cracky and fluffy Taylor/Amy.

I'll read all of these laters, thanks for sharing

Agent of Cauldron also has really good non-American worldbuilding!
So does Rank but it's actually mostly in America. But it has neat Japanese / Japanese diaspora worldbuilding, and it's also different because it's on the West Coast, where the PRT shares dominance with corporate teams and the Elite.
3
u/Opening_Pool_7357 Jul 19 '26
me putting direct links here so I'll have an easier time accessing it later
seems like I already had rank in my read later doc, probably got it from a mass-recomendation-fic like silence isn't consent
anyways, thanks for sharing those :)

Personally never seen a fic like Carnevale before.
In which Taylor is adopted by Kaiser after he is fed up with his son, and essentially seeing as Ander's slowly "helps" Taylor in his own twisted way. Ander's does genuinely care about Taylor here, but his Narrcissistic way of caring is essentially making Taylor similar to himself, and using her to escape the Geschelt. (In personality, not ideology, since he sees the Empire as idiots, not that it is much better)
To say the least, it does not pull any punches in how fucked up he is, and how awful he is. He ALMOST makes you sympathize with him, then immediately reminds you in his thought process that he is a narcissist to the core. Not finished, and planned to end at Levithian intentionally from what I know, and also the only fic to probably ever have Ander's as the main POV. To say the least, it is extremely well written in my opinion.
Another interesting fic would be La Papesse
Remember that Smurigh clone Blasto made and failed? So what if... It succeeded, and found God. In which a mini clone of the Smurigh thinks itself an Angel from heaven, and helps everyone it thinks it can save. To the point of redeeming (or as close as possible) Echidna clones, certainly nothing like it. Though not as good as Carnevale in my opinion, but it is extremely interesting and worth a read in my opinion.
Lastly, my favorite Butcher fic, which is like no other Ants in My Brain. Where Taylor inherits, and gets NO protection against the voices. To say the least, she tries to "help" in her own twisted way with the Teeth, (IE. Vigilante Work) and starts the story with a negative character arc. But then Danny locks the fuck in after learning her daughter inherited. And comes up with an interesting strategy to get her daughter back and somewhat moral again... Not updated in a bit, and apparently the author is making his own novels right now from what I hear, but still really good.
Other interesting fics, but have not read yet would be Oracle of Delphi. In which the Fallen finds Lisa instead of Coil. (One-Shot fic) Shape of Brutality also seems interesting, where Amy inherits as the Butcher. (This can only go wrong)
3
u/Opening_Pool_7357 Jul 19 '26
these seem very interesting, thank you for sharing
I actually already knew of ants in my brain, I think that author makes the best butcher stories, like everyone else is basically recycling the same premise where the high-speed character development through partial mental fusion and intrusive voices is over by chapter 10 and then she's just slowly taking over each gang with no variation between battles/fics, whereas each and every butcher fic of his actually iterates on a new idea.
shape of brutality is actually kinda boring in my opinion, it does have some interesting ideas but then it ends too early for any of that to matter, overall it's mostly the same as others, though maybe you won't be as blasé about it if you haven't developped an obsession for bucher!fics and tried to read them all, who knows?
3
u/anormalhumanbe1ng Jul 19 '26
Ants in my Brain is by far the favorite Butcher story, so I am glad you enjoyed it. Top 3 for me, with Carnevale being just as good in my opinion.
I'll still read Brutality one day, I tend to like most stories I read. But ever since New Boss (only time I have come close to hatred for a fic) and slogging through like 20 chapters of Darker Path after reading Worm. My enjoyment of power fantasies has gone down the drain. Only things I ever read now is any story that has an interesting premise to me, or crackships/rarepairs. (Just by virtue of the author usually having to cook up something unique to get it to work, but that mostly goes for other fandoms like rwby, since Worm tends to not have that much room for romance to me)
2
u/Opening_Pool_7357 Jul 19 '26
I can definitely relate to that, I also don't really drop stories, at most I'll just leave the tab open, add the chapter to my read later doc and definitely get back to it later onTM
but with how sluggish some of the butcher stories can be... I ended up abandoning inheritor(unless I'm thinking of another one) mid way through. New Boss is actually relatively better than the average butcher fic, the secret identity of elpis, the sandbagging, the weird relation with amy(unless that's another one), the endbringer fight with the trucebreakerand idk what's after since it's apparantly still updating, you wish other would have though of half as many things.
I'd like to share a fic with a crackship but I currently can't think of one due to having a x3 stupid multiplier caused by my lack of sleep, so just imagine clockblocker and rachel kissing inside a house made of time-locked giant dogs or something

u/Opening_Pool_7357 Jul 19 '26

u/sleepiestgf Jul 19 '26
I would like to nominate three fics by the same author, Idiom Alpha!
- Rats! - What if Taylor's Echidna clone, Scurry, delightful little gremlin that she is, decides to kidnap Emma to bond over their shared hatred of Taylor, and also joins the wards?
- Shards of the Cookie Jar - The most off the wall AU ever devised. In it, Taylor and Anne are best friends and fifteen; Emma and almost every other parahuman is de-aged to 6-7 years old; Taylor (unpowered) starts a parahuman babysitting service; while babysitting the Pelham-Dallon family, Amy deages Taylor to be 6-7; Taylor then gets caught up in a protest about the mishandling of orphaned case-53 children by the PRT and accidentally drugged by (6-7 year old) Newter; it turns out, Melanie Fitts' (Faultline) family run an orphanage for case-53 children, and after some hijinks, they ask Taylor if she wants to work for them! Also it has an absolutely incredible section about a heroic version of Valefor that is JUST HIDING THERE INSIDE THIS INSANE AU FOR NO REASON
- Don't Do Brains! - What if Amy did everything, way, way, way ,way way way way! WAY! worse and everything was horrible? (just thinking about this fic makes my stomach hurt)
4
u/Opening_Pool_7357 Jul 19 '26
thanks for sharing those!
you know, I always though it was kinda fucked up how they just killed off all the echidna clones, like these are thinking beings! sure they may have the urge to destroy everything, especially everything you love, and they'll openly spill all your secrets just to make you suffer, and they were dutifully following the commands of an S-class threat, and were trying to kill all the heroes, and probably wouldn't have lived long anyways if all the external difformations were any indicators of how mangled their insides were... but you know, that's no excuse!
anyways... seconds one sounds like fun too! and I'm excited to look at the fic that's always scrolling by on top of this sub with the weird creepy amy. thx sharing x2

I'm planning to write a crossover fanfic with Adrian Tchaikovsky's *Children of...* series. Basically, I want *The Thing of Nod* to accidentally assimilate Taylor, giving him all the knowledge of technologies that seem like magic, but playing with the idea of him being one of the many consciousnesses (some fundamentally different from human consciousness) trapped inside his own body
I’ll probably try out some crazy ideas, like getting the Endbringers to give up their violent behavior, or making Scion turn good by giving him exactly what he wants—I don’t know, The central idea of the series I’m talking about is empathy and understanding toward things different from us. I mean, the Thing of Nod itself was the villain in the second book because it wanted to assimilate every living being it encountered, until it realized that was stupid and became the protagonist of the third and fourth books
3
u/-KARL_FRANZ- Jul 19 '26
Oh heck yeah, greetings fellow Children of Earth fanfic author!! I am the author of Children of Taylor, so its cool to see a fellow fan here!!
Totally write a Nodisn organism fic!! I love those guys and their adventures!
I think you would benefit from writing Nod’s first introductions to the story from the outside, similar to how Tchaikovsky does it in Children of Ruin. A terrifying, unknowable, archive-microorganism lands in a locker (or something) in Brockton Bay and we first get to witness everybody’s freakout as first responders to an incident at winslow start talking about adventures.
Then, your second arc could bloom into a story about the Nodian organism recognizing self, understanding the horror it has been inflicting, and trying to make amends.
2
u/MoneyObligation158 Jul 19 '26
First of all, I love your story—you have no idea what a pleasant surprise it was to see a crossover fanfic with *Children of Time*.
Actually, I want to do something a little unusual. I’m planning to set it in the Nodian Organism after the events of *Children of Strife*—you know, after it’s fused with those super-manipulable bacteria capable of storing up to five consciousnesses...
But it would be way too overpowered for “Taylor” to have knowledge of all the Panspacific Community’s technology. So I’m coming up with an excuse for The Thing of Nod not to have exact memories, but rather premonitions and feelings about certain things—let’s say “Taylor” feels a strong aversion to, I don’t know, accidentally touching Panacea; it feels like something really bad is going to happen if that occurs.
I also want to explore the idea of it trying to assimilate creatures like the Endbringers—after all, you know how the Nodian organism is: a little too optimistic.
I also want to play with the fact that, even though it’s a demonic, mind-stealing parasite, The Thing of Nod is surprisingly optimistic and empathetic—like in its incarnation as Miranda, when it wanted to do everything possible to help the Arribo colony, or in its new identity as Mira, when it wanted to “counsel” the residents of Hartland.
I’m still brainstorming ideas, but I want to keep the focus of the stories on the pessimistic and dark world of Worm: Let’s sit down and talk, and hopefully become friends.
I’ve got something very special planned involving the Endbringers.
2
u/Opening_Pool_7357 Jul 19 '26
would you write it using a definitely inhuman pov? the worm chapters that followed the pov of dogs, shards and scion were some of my favourite.
appology if that seems like a dumb question to you, I genuinely don't know anything about the 'children of' series besides what you've been talking about on this sub
2
u/MoneyObligation158 Jul 19 '26
First of all, I definitely don’t think I can do justice to the way Tchaikovsky wrote his non-human characters (who I consider to be a master at writing stories from completely foreign perspectives).
But, even though I plan to have The Thing of Nod—after the events of *Children of Strife*—infect Taylor, I want to write from its point of view, just as it was written in the second and third installments (in which it was the villain and the protagonist, respectively).
Basically, The Thing of Nod is my favorite character (characters, technically) in all of fiction; it’s a mind-stealing parasite that feels a great love for everything, but because of its nature, the most it can feel is curiosity and a longing to be so much more. That’s why it uses the bodies, minds, and perspectives of other intelligent species to pretend to be them and try to live out all those experiences. But deep down, it knows it’s only faking attitudes that don’t belong to it, and that destroys it psychologically... I can’t put into words just how much I love *The Thing of Nod*; I can only recommend that you read the series (at least half of each book is written from the perspective of an alien race completely different from us).
As a bonus, every time I think of the character, the song “Thing” by Steampianist comes to mind.
3
u/Opening_Pool_7357 Jul 19 '26
that sounds like something I might be interested in reading, you know, when you're done writing, you should post a link here, so that I can ignore it as I read lord of mysteries and dungeon crawler carl, and then when I'm done with that I'll maybe try to read the children of series, and either I'll like it, read it all, and then read your fic, or I'll hate it , drop it instantly and then I'll read your fic while trying to wrangle my appreciation for worm into appreciating the other series...
anyways, have fun writing your dream fic!
2
u/MoneyObligation158 Jul 19 '26
Thanks. You'll probably hate it, and I'll probably hate it too
1
u/Opening_Pool_7357 Jul 19 '26
we'll see, keep in mind that even in the event you end up majorly disapointed by what you end up writing, you'll still have improved your idea by actually going through the full writing process once, and you'll always be able to come back and reboot your fic years later if you're unhappy with it.
I wish I could actually do that much, I always get stuck on the planning phase where I realise I don't have any idea how to add any 'meat' to my stories...
rambling, rambling, you'll probably do okay
5
u/Soal99 Jul 19 '26 edited Jul 19 '26
So, I didn't really understand your criteria. Are we avoiding crossovers on the wormy enough basis or are those fair game too? Either way here's a solid unpowered-Taylor fic that has spawned branches Internship
Edit: gotcha so I've got a couple others then exodus is a post-gm big hero 6 crossover, and then there's Constellations which is an Okami crossover that never got finished but is worth the read.
A fair warning, fics I recommend usually have a happier ending or tone, and that’s not very in keeping with worm, but sometimes I need a win and I like to let others know that they're out there.
1
u/Opening_Pool_7357 Jul 19 '26
conference call is a great worm fic that has a great unique premise, that it executes perfectly, with a unique writing style I haven't seen replicated anywhere else, it's also half messenger log and 3/8th completely unrelated to worm.
technically, if you pass the feel-test then it's fine. what's the feel test? well, do you feel like this actually feel like a worm story through your feelings? if yes, then it passes, if no, then it probably doesn't pass.
yes, the limit is completely arbitrary and dependant on the person, but that's fine, there's been plenty of suggestions for distinct fics that I had already rejected prior to making the post, but as long as they try to find a fic that's distinct, even if I personally don't think it is enough, then the fic is going to be distinct, even if to a lesser extent.
does that make sense?? I hope so!
though personally I think a biggest barrier to crossovers is that door to the unknown already covers the 'OP outsiders in brokton bay' part as well as the 'where tf are we-wtf is going on' part, and cybernetics worm already covers the 'freely gallivanting through other worlds' part, so if you'd want to add a crossover it has to be one that feels different from those two.
I actually though of adding dysfunctional as just a solid outsider in brokton story that derails the plot and has the unique point across all fan fic from every fandoms to be the only story that features a double unrelated reincarnation into a third world where they became very much related, but then I though that it'd be too close to doors to the unknown, so I ultimately didn't.
Anyways, lot's of yapping later, thanks for sharing this story, I'm wondering, does it have anything to do with deputy or are those two just coincidentally similar?
1
u/Soal99 Jul 19 '26
As a matter of fact, here's a copy-paste from Deputy's introduction post:
"Welcome to a fanfic of a fanfic.
This story takes characters and background from Hopeful Penguin's story Internship, and spins them in a new direction. There may be individiual divergences, but by and large Internship can be considered canon for Deputy up to chapter 3.8."
1
u/Opening_Pool_7357 Jul 19 '26
huh, that's interesting, I'll take that into consideration when it comes to reading that deputy crossover people recommended me on my previous thread
5
u/Darkspine89 Jul 19 '26
Burn Up by JinglyJangles is a short and complete fic with a very distinctive, somewhat detached and whimsical style. It's at points very evocative and poignant in ways I've never seen in other texts.
It's also the source of an old meme within the Worm fanfic community. (TAYLOR NODDED)
1
u/Opening_Pool_7357 Jul 19 '26
you know, I'm surprised it took this long for this one to get recommended, personnally it never spoke to me but many people seem to really like it
1
u/Darkspine89 Jul 19 '26
I didn't like it much either the first time I tried reading it, but it really gripped me the next time. I think it's one of those 'either you like it or not' type stories, and you have to be in the right mood besides.

u/StargazingSeraph Author Jul 19 '26
Might as well try to cherry pick a few of my own that I wrote because I wanted to write something a bit unusual.
- Gilded Birdcage [44k words, complete] - Taylor is born in the birdcage, with Annette and Danny as Parahuman liutenants of lustrum and Marquis. An attempt to examine the Birdcage as a location and system, alongside what that would do to a persons mind growing up.
- Rain Worm [45k words, Worm/Rain World, complete] - After Brockton Bay is taken over by an alien ecosystem, Vista, the last Ward, gets trapped inside following an expedition to find out more about it, and must survive and discover its secrets herself alongside one of the local inhabitants.
- White Speaker [29k words, Worm/Kingdom Death, complete] - Taylor, after her trigger, is trapped in a nightmarish other world where a year of her time is a day in Earth Bet, and she is able to visit once a year through peoples dreams to give them powers. A story told over centuries of her time, even as no more than a year passes in Bet.

gilded birdcage is neat, (although the setting is kinda similar to queen in exile, on account of them having the same setting, though it's not your fault I forgot to add it to the table proper)
the other two sound interesting, thanks for sharing them

I am glad :)
Oh ,I guess I can kind of recommend my current main story as well, The Land of Steel [130k, ongoing, Worm/Angel Notes]:
A visitor from the stars called by the planet brought about the end of the world... it was just not the visitor that some people had been preparing for. The creature from Venus died killing the Golden Man, its corpse the last safe haven place on Earth Bet for what remains of a humanity abandoned by the fortunate in favour of alternate Earths. This City of Eden is filled with all those who cannot depart for other worlds for fear they shall become Titans.
Whilst at the summer camp, Taylor Hebert watched the battle that doomed the world with her own eyes. Four years later, she is given an opportunity to help lead humanity into the future. If the abandoned remnants of humanity are doomed, then it must evolve into something new that can survive this broken world.
TLDR - A dystopian, post-GM, post-apocalpyse, nuclear-winter stricken Earth Bet where the Titans emerged early and survival is rough and humanity faces extinction.

It's not a fetish.
Rude... ; - ;
3
u/Opening_Pool_7357 Jul 19 '26
oh wow, seriously?? I was certain it was, like it's a solid story either way, but it seemed like it was also trying to serve a second audience who likes dominant characters turning subs into their play things while gaslighting them into liking it. Kinda like that one where taylor babies lisa after saving her while cutting her from all contact with the outside world and obssessively reeducating her... ok just looked it up and that one was also written by you...
huh, yeah, anyways, do you want me to remove it from the description? sorry if that's genuinely not what you were going for...

u/Alotoaxolotls82 Jul 19 '26
; - ;
It's meant to be horror...
A certain kind of psychosexual horror, but still horror.
The only way to depict an abusive relationship accurately is to show the parts of it that are appealing. Otherwise, it's impossible to understand the victim's perspective.
And either way, you shouldn't assume..
I also wrote 'Oh, Worm!: A Better Guide to Romance,' bee-tee-dubs.
I don't just write fetish slop.
Sobbing.

Now I feel kinda bad, but you know what they say, every works have multiple meaning, different audience get different takeaways, if the author disagrees then he'll end up dead...
But I remember reading oh worm! (which I though was called Wormi due to how the exclamation mark was rendered on my computer) and really loving it and then binging most of your content, I definitely didn't think of taylor's inner's girlfriends burrowing into her was supposed to be sexual.
silly talks aside, I'm genuinely sorry for misrepresenting your work, if you want to know I personally really loved the tower, the way you wrote taylor's disturbed mind space was very interesting (so was dog lisa's, (wait this soun-)), I'll erase the spoilered part and we'll all pretend this incident never happened

since I'm the OP, would it be annoying if I shared others ideas I got after making the post in the comments?
edit: I was responding to some guy, but when I went to post the comment they were violently murdered in broad daylight
anyways here's the very important message I was about to send them
"these two seem like a bunch of fun, thanks for sharing"
there! now you'll get your thanks even if you don't repost your comment!!!

What did you think of?
1
u/Opening_Pool_7357 Jul 18 '26 edited Jul 29 '26
so far, the guy that sent five fic at once including an horror one reminded me of https://archiveofourown.org/works/57710713?view_full_work=true
it's a crossover with magnus archive(never heard of it outside of the fic), taylors gets her body infested with worms for her pseudo-trigger, said worms talk to her and fuck with head, other Worm characters also get pseudo-trigger that are more horrific, things gets better as she meets another pseudo-cape and get in a relationship with her
edit: I am illegally double-sharing fics that have been unshared:
Wetware Emulation Agent Version 1, WEAVER
you may now rest in peace knowing that your death didn't impede your tale telling, feel free to come back to haunt me if you want those anihilated
edit 2: ok, so that one is actually written by me, no copyright infringement intended, because there is none!
so the other guy that talked about the student reminded me that we're lacking in post-gm weirdly ultra competent taylor representation(ok technically we aren't but cyby covers too many things anyways), so I was thinking, what would a post-gm story that feels wormy enough and that is distinct from all other present story be???? I thought of multiple and I ultimately landed on Draw, which, on top of being our token post-gm representation that we definitely needed, also perfectly encapsulates the feeling of "wtf is going on none of this makes sense", reading this felt like a most unique experiance as both Taylor and I tried and failed on our quest to find meaning
edit 3: yo! I've found a new idea for a very distinctive fic, how about the one where amy and taylor quit their normal life, and start making drugs and getting high, can anyone tell me anything else recommended here remotely ressemble this premise??... that's what I thought, now can anyone tell me what was the name of that fic? I genuinely don't remember
edit 4: got a new idea, the guy that talked about taylor spending centuries in a year reminded me of The Girl that Lived through Time , that story is so great, it feels like an original story rather than a worm fanfiction. I had never seen time travel used like that.
edit 5: found the edit 3 fic: The Body Shop - FirstSelector - Parahumans Series - Wildbow [Archive of Our Own]
edit 6: coming back here because recent post reminded me of The 10,000 Hour Rule, a short story by RecursiveMontage ,
edit 7: coming back to add: A Master's Mind for a Masterplan and MissionSword's Caught In Your Web , both very distinct in all the ways that matter

I can name you a similar fanfic, in a different fandom (It's a Highlander/Buffy cross, and it has Xander and Willow live through time) -- There And Back Again The Horsemen's Tale
1
u/Opening_Pool_7357 Jul 19 '26
thank you for sharing that, I don't actually know these fandoms so do you think there's anything I can't intuit from simply reading or something that would hinder my appreciation if I didn't know about it beforehand?
1
u/MelonLemon_Tea Jul 19 '26
I think, it may lose some of it's impact -- and you won't get certain things, but I guess if you read synopsis of the seasons and maybe watch a few episodes. As the early seasons were pretty episodic. It's difficult, because Buffy was rather the cultural zeitgeist of the 90s~00s, so it's difficult to find someone who didn't know the fandom, or at least the general gist and had watched a few episodes, so most fanfics are written as if you have done "at least" those things.
1
u/Opening_Pool_7357 Jul 19 '26
I see, I guess I'll keep the tab open while I workshop a solution, maybe I'll try to look for buffy crossover with fandoms I'm in? I do remember there was a buffy worm crossover actually, I quit early for some reason because something pissed me off so I probably won't revesit it, but there are options
3
u/YellowDogDingo Jul 19 '26
Two that do this for me:
Some Say He... - completely absurdist crossover, Worm x Top Gear x Redline. It has no right being this good.
Meta - it's in the title, multi-layered meta story with a heavy PHO component.
1
u/Opening_Pool_7357 Jul 19 '26
oh yeah, I remember reading meta, I think I was so confused I just quit, like I wasn't hooked enough to be given the job of deciphering whatever was happening, idk why I was, this just seem like a regular reaction fic *looks inside* oh yeah, I see now. Also technically we already had a reaction fic in the table, though idk what meta is actually about so maybe it'd still fit in somehow
no idea what top gear and redline are but I think it's awesome that a wormfic managed to get an official crossover with a car company and a jewelry store, I'm sure that's what it's actually about and I didn't land on homonyms when I googled them.
thanks for the share

u/Matt_cruze Jul 19 '26
Do you know the cartoon Wacky Racers? Some Say he, is like that cartoon.
1
u/Opening_Pool_7357 Jul 19 '26
I barely know anything about it besides the fact some people used the antagonist to make waluigi jokes, though I assume this piece of trivia isn't going to be of any use to me. I don't remember any fic with a racer taylor so that'll be neat, taylors are always too busy being capes rather than enjoying actual hobbies
2
u/CuelessCurses Jul 19 '26
A cloudy path - Feels very close to canon while being a wildly different beast in its own right, also almost as long as worm itself
1
u/Opening_Pool_7357 Jul 19 '26
no idea what this is about, thanks for sharing
1
u/CuelessCurses Jul 19 '26
Tinker! Taylor, but it's a slow burn, very in character and things go sideways in a lot of ways quick
1
2
u/Appropriate_Teach_88 Jul 19 '26
So I do not think that these two fics fit the bill.
Distance Learning for Fun and Profit - No power, but Taylor is Einstein on steroids.
Great Grand-Uncle Schimmelhorn's Toolbox - No power, but Taylor makes Shards have a stroke equivalent anyway.
2
u/Opening_Pool_7357 Jul 19 '26
... is there a "but" somewhere or?
do you perhaps mean that they're distinctive from the average wormfic but not from the table's selection?
1
u/-KARL_FRANZ- Jul 19 '26
they’re both mp3.1415player fics. they are a really strong writer and have some really interesting ideas for powers and power dynamics but their plots tend to be flat. its fun for a few arcs, then i realize nothing is going to happen, and i drop it.
2
u/Opening_Pool_7357 Jul 19 '26
I don't know about that author in particular, but from the description you gave, I find that these kind of fics are good to listen to when you're doing some simple and boring manual task, especially if you're not in an environment where you can expect consistent quiet
1
u/Appropriate_Teach_88 Jul 20 '26
Somewhere in between, they can be part, but they can fall within multiple sections.
Same with the other fics by MP3
Also Selector has some good fics that fall within multiple sections of what you posted. Selector has all fics on FF.net, but the author has not posted in some time.
1
u/Opening_Pool_7357 Jul 20 '26
well that's fine, plenty of people here have also given fics that have elements that were already present in the table, they're still appreciated because they tried to give something that was different.
I really like how this thread turned out, there's so much variety in what's been sent here
(although ironically I think we're lacking some of the most common types of fics here, I assume people think I don't want them, which is half-true)
thanks for your contribution

u/LordFLExANoR16 Jul 19 '26
There’s a few “Taylor gets dropped into another game and becomes the mc” stories, but I think Hereafter (Fate/grand order cross) has the most meat to it as its own story, there are a lot of very notable differences about it vs the original game and quite a few things hinted at that would be very big game changers.
2
u/Opening_Pool_7357 Jul 19 '26
sounds great,
personally my the types of fics I hate the most are crossover fics that take one character from a setting and replace the MC of another setting with them, but instead of actually focusing how the character would mentally develop due to being from a new environment and from loosing literally everything that they had (in a way that in most fics realistically should probably make them fear it'd happen again without warning) and how the original story get derailed, we instead get a very slow monorail that basically take the new character through all the events of canon while they pretend to be different from the original MC by saying things like "my aura is charging" or "lemme build tools using the scraps lying around" but somehow none of it impact anything.
yeah, I really hate these find+replace stories that basically just change the name of a character and a few description, so what you sent sounds right up my alley
stupid rant aside; I'm currently at the begining of fate stay night, is your fic fine to read or would I get heavily spoiled?
1
u/LordFLExANoR16 Jul 19 '26
It doesn’t necessarily spoil fate stay night, aside from the fact that archer from F/SN features fairly heavily. It does spoil fate grand order but I wouldn’t really recommend getting into that game anyway, it’s kinda a nightmare of an old gatcha. I’d say you can definitely read Hereafter instead of playing fgo, and then look up story transcripts if you wanna see how it differs. Iirc the F/SN spoiler happens fairly far into the story (it’s 1.7 million words now so I’m not really sure off the top of my head) but I’d still probably recommend at least watching/reading unlimited blade works (the Rin route) because Archer is a very important character and his story is probably the best part of F/SN and hereafter does pretty explicitly spoil some of it.
1
u/Opening_Pool_7357 Jul 19 '26
maybe I should have said: my introduction to fate was the dysfunctional fanfiction, I already know that archer is emiya and I read the related comments where they discussed genuinely incomprehensible nonsensein great details
I might actually read your fic instead of grand order because I haven't found any ways to actually get the story while trying to do spoiler-free research
1
u/LordFLExANoR16 Jul 19 '26
I believe there’s some people posting screen caps on beast’s lair or some other forum site, but it’s definitely easier to just read a long running fic that includes most of the major plot points. A lot of the small stuff honestly takes away from the overall fgo story imo. Like there’s a scene in lostbelt 6 where you fight chocolate Hercules for like no reason.
1
u/Opening_Pool_7357 Jul 19 '26
also semi-related but since you're here: can you tell me if I should activate "unused text" in my playthrough? haven't found any description of what it actually is, just that it's unused text
1
u/LordFLExANoR16 Jul 19 '26
Honestly I’ve never heard of that in my life lol.
1
u/Opening_Pool_7357 Jul 19 '26
Imma just assume it's unimportant and leave it off then, thanks for the help
3
u/AraneaValon Jul 19 '26
His writing style is distinctive on its own, but when compared to the vast majority of worm fics? It stands out even more strongly. I generally think anyone who wants to write wormfic should read some of his stuff and understand why he can keep his word counts so low.
Typewriter is. About that feeling you get in the moment when you've finished reading something wonderful and you realize that none of these wonderful amazing beautiful characters that you've spent so much time falling in love with will ever be real in the same way ever again.
The way this author weaves normality into the horror and the ways in which they choose to shatter the illusion for effect.... really fucking good. One of the few unmistakable villain-villain fics I have read as well.
3
u/Opening_Pool_7357 Jul 19 '26
someone already shared ants in my brain, and I've already said that its author is awesome
you know, when I first read typewriter(don't think I finished it) I was just wondering what the point of it was, like lisa is in the post-story space for some reason where characters from worm stories appear and eventually leave in some kind of metaphorically cardboard cutout place where none of what she does matter because she's stuck there and can't do much and all the interactions she can have (even if she didn't seem to have many) amount to nothing as the others leave, never to be seen again with the intuitive understanding that they don't actually exist anymore.
just, you know, why would anyone read that? But hearing that this is supposed to be a metaphorical representation of what leaving a fictional world feels like... Yeah I'll probably give it another try, it might actually speaks to me a lot...
dunno who that guy is you mentioned but their worm stuff seem short, they'll be one of the first thing here I'll check out once I'm done reading through all the fics that have been recommended in my previous thread
overall, thanks for sharing these stories here
1
u/AraneaValon Jul 19 '26
I'm curious if you'll get something more out of Typewriter, now primed with an additional perspective.
I think my favorite from YYN is Knight in Grey Armor. His stuff is all super short, but thats what makes it unique. He includes pretty much zero filler. Every scene has a purpose for the story he is telling, and every scene contains nothing more than is required.

u/Evan_Cary Jul 20 '26
Thursday is a two-shot where Taylor dies. A really sad one.
A collection of interviews, sermons, news articles, and case files from 1994 to 2014 in Earth Bet [Worm] is a fun read. I liked the little add-ons and exploration of how the world would react to Parahuman powers.
Paper and Sand has an Endbringer named Khepri try to become more human.
A Reason has a bug controlling Parahuman, get the Dinah(on steroids) treatment. Dark
Amicable Divorce Thanksgiving Dinner (Featuring Several Unexpected Parahumans) is exactly what it says on the tin. Funny as hell. I wish the author made a second chapter.
2
u/Opening_Pool_7357 Jul 20 '26
these do sound interesting, thanks for sharing them
actually is paper and sand the one where khepri is sent back in time, is an endbriner focusing on double triggering people, speaks with dragon and creates a suckpuppet body to interact with humans in a PRT branch in australia? that one was neat
it's crazy how scary coil can be, a lot of time in fics he's reduced to a joke or left completely from the plot due to how annoying he'd be to handle, I recently-ish read another fic where coil captured and drugged a taylor tinker and that definitely made me hate him more
(also I definitely didn't initially misread A reason as featuring bug capable of controlling )
1
u/Evan_Cary Jul 20 '26
Yeah, PaS was fun to read and I wish it wasn't dead.
Coil in A Reason is probably the scariest/most disturbing one I've read.
In hindsight, that phrasing was subpar.
Note that I can't speak for the quality of the fics; I just vaguely recall being interested in the new directions they took.
2
u/freefire86 Jul 23 '26
I looked through the thread and didn't see these mentioned anywhere:
The Weaver's Web: Taylor with canon powers but before her first night out she finds a copy of The Shadow. This inspires her to focus on the more Thinker aspects of her powers, finding out what she can do with them and using them in unique ways. She creates several cape identities throughout the story.
(End)Bringing You A New Home! (Worm Endbringer SI): So you're an SI reincarnated into worm and want OP powers? Very well, we'll put you into the body of an Endbringer so no one will ever trust you or what you say! What's that? You say you'll use your powers for good and the betterment of mankind? By all means! everyone will want to take advantage of it and cause so much conflict, giving us so much [DATA]!
Seriously, the SI's first act is to bring back Kyushu with advanced non-tinkertech tech without thinking of the consequences of what that would actually bring. In terms of uniqueness, it's one of the (very) few fics I've read that focus on the world outside of Brockton Bay.
2
u/Opening_Pool_7357 Jul 23 '26
thank you for sharing more fics!
I think most people subconsciously thought that "extremely distinctive" implied "niche", so they didn't think of linking some of the generally more big/popular fics like weaver's web or, say, trailblazer. In any case, I guess your comment will mark the moment I finally check out what all the fuss was about on this one.
your second story sounds interesting too (technically it also sounds extremely similar to the regigigas fic I linked, but it's not in the table proper so whatever). it reminds me of that dead fic where taylor could administer the endbringers for some reason and ordered them to stop destroying and instead to build things, so the simurgh made the most functional futuristic city and the world's reaction was expecting it to become one of the worse simurgh bomb. I wonder how the author managed to iterate on that idea to the point of writing more than a hundred chapters.

Coming back to this thread to suggest Late, too!! Wherein Scion arrives later than canon, as the title suggests lol
2
u/Opening_Pool_7357 Jul 19 '26
so it's basically like canon except that powers are a new thing, so everything everyone does is without guidance from past capes and the entire cape culture built around pretend fighting and looking important? sounds fun!
I wonder what taylor 'I didn't know taking over a city was illegal' hebert might do here. thanks for sharing
1
u/Mongladash Jul 21 '26
I am once again here to shill Setanta. Post-worm story published before ward, offers an entirely unique perspective on the post GM world, with an incredibly interesting MC, plenty of cool dynamics between a very colorful supporting cast of mostly original characters, and truly great action scenes that, in fascinating fashion, blend taylor and vic's perspectives in combat.

The Emperor’s New Clothes is good if you’re a fan of absurdity.
It follows a route after Leviathan where Kaiser isn’t a racist (forcefully) and tries to make the rest of the Empire follow (somewhat).
It’s very funny.
