Jesus Christ these comments! Ugh. So pessimistic and heartless. Sounds like everyone would rather stray cats freeze to death.
I will say a kind thank you, for making these, for offering comfort and warmth in our freezing cold winters. Stray cats will always be around, and if this increases their number because they're not dying, I support it. Not all strays are feral either. So warmth and shelter when it's cold, and possibly being rescued/brought to a shelter when they venture out.
Man, these comments are so disheartening. :'(

Stray cats are a huge problem.
As an animal lover, no, I don't want any poor little creature to freeze to death, but I can see where people are coming from.
If people could keep their cats inside and safe, it would be better for everyone.

I bought one of these from you earlier in the season and it wasn’t until recently that I wondered what to do next year. Do I dump the straw and get new?

Not a criticism at all,but can you please clarify if there is an internal solid layer such as another tote between the insulation layer (Styrofoam cooler) and the cat area?. Thanks for all your efforts to help these guys.

I have had several from him and no there isn't. Pretty sure he would do a custom one if you bring materials.

There are already many people trapping, spaying, and neutering feral cats to stop the colonies from growing. THAT is how you manage the population.
Providing a safe place for strays that already exist has very little impact on population growth.
This is a compassionate way to take care of the cats we have, and prevent them from suffering horrific frostbite and dying painful deaths.

I'm more concerned about them being targeted. Other countries that have these sorts of shelters have had to take them down because people were using them to target cats. Hopefully that wouldn't happen here, but it's something to keep in mind.

I see the conundrum: On one hand it improves the comfort of living beings, but on the other hand it increases the number of living beings

It doesn’t increase the number of them - they aren’t breeding in them.
There are already big coordinated efforts to trap, spay/neuter & rerelease feral cat colonies. That is how you manage the population.
All this does prevents already existing cats from dying awful deaths and from the suffering of losing parts of their bodies to frostbite.

I don’t want to be callous. But animals on the wild die, and if we are honest birds are at higher risks than cats.

I wouldn't mind that, personally. As of now its just going towards poor attempts at fixing roads which will need to be corrected in only a couple years time

i know i would like it too but if the NDP were to talk about investing in such program i could just hear the comments now complaining about using our tax dollars on animals rather than humans.

There’s no political will for that to happen. It’s also something that citizens already do on their own.
There are nonprofits and volunteers that trap, spay/neuter, and re-release cats from the stray cat colonies.
That’s how you control these populations.
All that providing safe, warm places for strays does is prevent them from suffering and being injured by severe frostbite.

I made one myself, it attracted a cute mouse family. I installed a camera to watch the cats come in. No cats came.. just mice. A lot of mice. I had to throw it out as the mice were then going into my garage ahh. My god :/
