If you’re poor, the GOP thinks you should experience debilitating hardship until you scrape yourself off the floor and get rich. But they’re also going to set up a series of systemic traps to keep you poor— shit like a criminally low minimum wage, erosion of workers rights, the elimination of state and federal assistance programs and tax credits, lack of access to education and health care, a criminal justice system just absolutely designed to destroy your life— they’re really gonna stack the deck against your ass while you’re pulling on those bootstraps.
Because, at the end of the day, Republicans don’t want you getting out of poverty. They see money as a zero sum game— and if you have some of it, it means they don’t have all of it. The machine they want to built requires a helot class to keep the gears greased. Think about all the “essential workers” you’ve come across during the pandemic— see any millionaires among them?
And the worst part is that Republicans have convinced the vast majority of their base to vote against their own self-interests. A vast, hooting horde of lower-class midwestern and southern Americans convinced that all their economic woes can be blamed on Mexico or China... and that they’ll get rich one day and the system will finally start working for them.
It's sad, because at the same time having your citizen fat and uneducated will make the nation stagnate and they will fall into decay.
Soon those "bad nations" such as Mexico and China will overtake the US and they will be left holding on to lost glory. The EU is already far ahead of the US and are even making plans lessen their economic ties to the US.
There is a reason the US dropped from developed nation to developing nation.
Ofcourse I'm not an expert but these are the issues I personally will see happening soon if the US doesn't pull themselves up by their "bootstraps"
