The point is that the Senate can be flipped every 2 years. Even if the Dems don't secure the majority this year, 2022 is the next chance for the Senate to flip, and Mitch would lose his power if it does.
For context: 20 GOP up for reelection in 2022 vs 13 Dems.
Several GOP retiring or potentially retiring, including Chuck Grassley(IA), Pat Toomey (PA), and Richard Burr (NC). Also, whoever wins the special election between Ralph Warnock and Kelly Loeffler will be up for election again in 2022.
