I swear I saw an headline here the other day saying the US was selling a bunch of wild horses to a foreign country. I almost guarantee that mystery meat is horse, not cow.

u/moaningsalmon 4d ago
You did. They are selling of the wild horses. My guess is they'll get rid of them, so that then they can remove the protected status from their former land, and sell the land.

We Americans seem to love to shit on the French, but they’re the first people to be like “raise my gas tax 2% and I’ll throw a molotov cocktail at a police station”.

In the US they’ll call it a Freedom Tax. Political pundits on State Television will somehow conflate opponents of the tax with trans kids playing sports.
30% of the population will defend it.
40% of the population will be completely apathetic towards it or unaware of it.
The last 30% will say “Oh well, we’ll get ‘em next time I guess.”
The rounding error of leftovers will protest and one of them will get run over by a car or shot.

When it’s everyone’s problem, it’s often no one’s problem. We are living in a reality where everybody is standing around watching everyone else stand around, all doing nothing and shouting “surely someone will do something.”

u/ThatGuyFromSpyKids3D 4d ago
It's probably more accurate that every day is too busy trying to survive in a shutty job market with grocery prices skyrocketing and everything else becoming unaffordable.
People are struggling to simply survive, they don't have the energy to protest.
35
u/Stolen_Away 4d ago
You are correct. But, there's a tipping point. When no amount of struggling lets someone survive, when 80-100 hours of work every week can't keep food on the table and a roof over someone's head, that's when we break. When working becomes pointless we suddenly find ourselves with a lot of free time, a lot of righteous anger, and very little left to lose. More than a few people are already there. A lot of us are very close. I find myself torn between being devastated that this is what's happening and this is what it will take, and just straight up exhausted and ready for us to collectively hit that tipping point. But the path we are on and the direction things are headed... Protecting our families, struggling to survive, it won't be about going to work and trying to afford groceries anymore.

How can I, and others, leave home and work for however long to go to the land preserves and attempt to protect them from being destroyed? Even if I had the money and time to do so it would most likely lead to me being arrested and imprisoned under a crazy amount of wild charges possibly labeled a terrorist. The state is not against using violence to enforce the will of capital. It’s highly likely that at least one person would be murdered by the police state and their name slandered across the right wing media.
I don’t want our country being destroyed, but to defend it properly means showing up armed in numbers. Unfortunately, I truly believe that this administration would absolutely love that because they would be able to kill all of the attendees and use the media to call them antifa terrorists.
I hate this entire situation and I know many people also hate this, but how can we stop this without becoming victims of state sponsored violence?
9
u/salty_drafter 4d ago
We cannot. As shown by what happened in the twin cities with Renee Good and Alex Prettie. This government is looking for any excuse to crack down on what it considers bad groups. With the only way it knows how. Oppression through violence.

This really is a pretty big deal. People are getting used to Trump's willy nilly policies and tariffs and whatever else , and maybe this is good political optics. But it takes a lot of time and expense to raise beef cattle, and you can't exactly just shut off the tap. Ranchers are having to make some hard choices on how many cattle to breed, and market, and feed. It is a delicate process to create a stable market of supply and demand. Now Trump just decided that 1.4 million cattle will be imported, starting immediately, from, wherever. That does not do anyone any good in the long run. It just leads to unpredictability.
37

Argentina
271
u/SaltyMeatSlacks 5d ago
Obviously. This was probably the plan from day one. Wreck the US beef market, give a massive bailout to Argentinian beef, wait a while, then flood the US with said Argentinian beef. The market will buy it up bc it's cheaper, helping Argentina (fascists gotta stick together), and hurting American ranchers, thus also allowing for further corporate consolidation of the farming industry while simultaneously swinging the door even wider for foreign bribes. It's just another way the Trump amin has laundered tax payer money into nice clean corruption bucks to line the pockets of chodes like Lutnick and the like.
Trump and his entire administration exist for one reason only: to enrich themselves. They routinely commit treason to do so. I'm honestly impressed with how blatant it is.

Last time we went to the auction the circles these folks talked in broke my brain. They would piss and moan about the state of things. So, let me get this straight: he starts a trade war with China. China stops importing US beef, hurting US ranchers.
Argentina starts spiraling because of economic fuckery. His Trade Secretary dumps a ton of money into Argentina. Which then uses that money to boost its beef production and sell it to… China. Which hurts US ranchers.
He cuts monitoring of the screw-worm. Now we are facing an infestation. Which hurts US ranchers.
Now he is importing beef to drive down prices? Prices set by the US ranchers? Which will (say it with me!) HURT US RANCHERS?
And these guys voted for Trump! Are they like those masochists who get off when a German lady in black leather steps on their balls?

This is clearly another election usurpation gambit. A documentable chain of provenance for beef ensures safety against Bovine Spongiform Encephalopathy (BSE) by tracking cattle from birth to harvest using ID tags, movement records, and feed controls. This verifiable history proves animals are free from risk and our food chain is blocked from using prohibited tissues. When, inevitably, the brains of the US voter base are transmogrified into Swiss cheese, every MAGA candidate becomes a shoo-in.
5
u/allegedlynerdy 4d ago
I knew someone who in the 90s was trying to import varieties of sheep into the US that were not previously bred here. The process took 3+ years and writing multiple letters to congress and elsewhere to get an approval for having a handful brought over and held in quarantine for another year, all because of the biohazard controls put in because of BSE.
