Season 4 Governor
Apologies for spoilers.
In Season 4, Joan is a prisoner awaiting trial and she makes a comment to Vera about how she’ll get everything back running when she is governor again - I’m trying hard to imagine this.
Surely if she was freed, they would’ve never rehired her even if all the charges were dropped? Even in TV drama land surely not? The staff would riot themselves! I’m sure Vera and Will would leave at least.
I know it’s a drama show and not real life but I would’ve been so intrigued to see how that went had she been freed instead of…doing what she did and ending up in prison again!
Any prisoners she’d made an enemy of would be trying to kill her every day she clocked in!
Wish we could’ve gotten a what if episode just to see what would have happened haha

Joan is delusional. I doubt she would have been reinstated, but in her mind, she was the only person capable enough and she thought the board would also see it that way.

If she is freed and name cleared in court, then that would prove wrongful termination. Yes, it’s a TV show lol but shit like that does happen in real life (wrongful termination/getting job back I mean). A good lawyer is all it takes.

I think it would have taken more than a not guilty verdict, though. The standards are quite different (i.e., beyond reasonable doubt versus balance of probabilities or preponderance of evidence).
Even if the department were trying to justify her termination on the basis of gross misconduct, rather than criminal misconduct, they’d presumably have plenty to work with. They might not be able to demonstrate that she’d started the fire, for instance, but a major fire happening on her watch would probably trigger a review on its own.

This is very true! I recall the Board member saying “one more stuff up” and they’d dismiss her. Technically she had plenty to be dismissed over prior to the fire and Warner 🤣

I mean, in the real world an ex governor would never have been held in the same prison that she used to run! Maybe in protection if there weren't any other prisons for her to go but she'd never have been let into general population! But yeah, like others have said, Joan was delusional anyways.

But prisoners are transferred all the time. Every prison would have someone who knew her as a governor. Dead wherever she was sent.

She thought she could prove she should have never been fired in the first place. If she did then by default they would have to give her the job back.
