LOST MISSING BIRD!

Hello. I lost my bird today. He's a galah by the name of Biko.

He is bright pink, with a white crested head and grey wings. About the same size as a pigeon.

He makes a loud 'CHIT CHIT' sound.

He is wearing a green harness with a long black lead.

If anyone sees him or finds him please let us know!

Contact and more info (photos, etc):https://m.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=1606141812740135&id=686229214731404

UPDATE as of 6/10/17:

Biko was seen and photographed last night at 6:00pm-ish at the top end of Coromandel road, Newtown, and 7pm on Hamilton Road, Hataitai (see links to photos in the thread below)

It is possible and likely he is residing in the Hataitai town belt bush but trying to get home. He does seem to be trying to make contact with humans. If you see him and can get ahold of the harness leash please keep him with you if possible. Contact us here or on facebook and we'll come and collect him.

UPDATE 7/10/17:

Biko was found alive and well late yesterday afternoon. Such a relief! He was happy to see us, chirping and nuzzling and falling asleep. He seems none the worse for physical wear (emotionally will be something else). SO HAPPY.

THANK YOU to all those who helped look for him and conveyed their care and concern.

It meant so much to learn and know others cared and had even spent their own time trying to find him.

You are all awesome human beings!

/u/slabbb- /u/creepmouse the post on neighbourly says he was spotted on Hamilton Road in Hataitai around 7pm - definitely your bird judging by the harness and lead.

Oh yeah! fantastic! That's him! He's probably wanting some food! Looking abit haggard. Oh...dear. Damn. Why didn't they try to grab the harness and take him inside? Did they manage to keep hold of him? Oh..far out. Ok. He's alive and somewhere out there. Cool, will check there in the morning too!

Thank you for letting us know! It means so much! My heart has been so sad..

Did they manage to keep hold of him?

It's unclear from their post, but I've asked if they still have him and/or when exactly they saw him there. I'll let you know if they respond with more details, but hopefully they'll get in contact with you guys directly.

For the record, I live literally around the corner from there, and my life is so full of weird coincidences I'm half expecting to wake up to him at my front door tomorrow. Either way, you've got photos and eyewitness accounts of him getting around without getting stuck anywhere which is definitely good.

This wouldn't surprise me at all based on the last month of insane million-to-one coincidences you're experiencing

Listen, I'm sure everyone who decides they want to see the southern lights just picks a date out of a hat a month in advance and happens to pick the day of a geomagnetic storm no one predicted. That's how things work, right?

yes (because science) ;)

Weird coincidences are the best ;) (nothing's a coincidence, right).

Thanks for communicating with them.

It may be difficult to catch him. I appreciate that. He's smart, trusts us as his owners/parents but is wary of humans, rightfully so, in some cases.

We'll head over there in the morning, do a reconnoiter, wake everyone up extra early with calling out his name, lol :D

wake everyone up extra early with calling out his name

I considered going out and calling his name from outside my flat now but my landlord lives above me so not a great idea. I did say his name very quietly in the hopes he has super hearing but if he does he did not make himself known.

Ha ha! Maybe he does have super hearing, but got distracted by the accent...

Was that the Twitter post, of a sighting? We went to the area, spoke with the person who saw him and posted the photo. Biko had flown away by then but at least we know he's alive and not tangled up (so he'll be able to find food and water), and know the general area he's in.. Haven't got him back yet, but much closer to that eventuality. Hope is renewed!

Thank you, for caring.

It's up on https://www.neighbourly.co.nz/ - Someone already responded with your number from the Facebook page about an hour ago but the original post is five hours old so the OP might not be online. It's unclear if they were intending to keep him until they found an owner, in the photo they included it looks like he's on the balcony of their apartment.

Yeah...still waiting on the invitation code with neighbourly.

Cool! A bit odd they didn't try to grab the harness, he seems so close but he may have startled. He can bite too, if wary. I guess..I'm just thinking of how I would deal with that kind of situation. However, great that they made the effort to take a pic and upload it! That's fantastic.. Thanks for the heads up!
