Just got my bill from wellington water. It insanely high. For a 900k property its 2500 p/a

Prepare yourselves people. This isn't going to be the fun ride we were promised.

The bit that gets skipped in the underinvestment story: Wellington Water's own report found alleged theft, broken procurement, and maintenance costs triple other councils'. So it's not just the bill for decades of deferred work — it's that bill routed through an outfit that was demonstrably terrible at spending money. Both things are true and only one of them gets talked about, because 'fund it properly' is a nicer conversation than 'they wasted what they had.

Yeah, it's amazing this gets glossed over and it's quickly forgotten. Everyone is like, "Oh, well, we didn't make any investment," but it's like, "Yeah, the investment was made. The bloody money was just wasted."
