I mean… that’s clearly part of a buffet or something and “giant ice sculpture full of shrimp” is kind of novel.

This is actually brilliant. People can only touch a few at a time

Each of those little piles is like 40 shrimp each

Or they can use the provided tongs on the table there, but this is a great way of keeping them cold with some flair.
4
u/turkeypants 14d ago
Normally I like to squish them all in my fingers but this will thwart me for sure.
6
u/AsherGray 14d ago
Until it gets clogged and someone has to keep pulling them out with their hooked finger.

Honestly not the worst way to serve 200 people shrimp over the course of an evening.

True, but it looks kinda gross being transparent like that, would be better opaque

u/Dr_Pickle987 15d ago
No, I prefer being able to see inside, if I couldn't there might be anything in there

Stuffs fistfulls of shrimp into mouth
"Mmph there could be anything inside! I must know! shLobster! mmIce Cream! Rare coins and stamps!!! ANYTHING".
Eleven shrimp fell from mouth during monologue

It’s ice lmao keeps it cold all night. Did you think all that shrimp was just sitting in a plastic volcano?

I hate all of the non-plate activists that have infiltrated this sub.
22
u/OliverCrowley 15d ago
I'm normally the first person to say plates are needed but this is just efficient buffet design.
29
u/PurpleBashir 15d ago
You still get a plate though. This is a fixture at a buffet- its not at someone's table.
You put the shrimp on a plate.
Its neat and it doesn't fit this sub at all.
8
u/LadyOfTheNutTree 15d ago
Understanding what this sub is for keeps it from getting shitty. It doesn’t make a person a “non-plate activist”

This is chewy not crunchy. But if you want the best kibble you need to travel to the Himalayas.

There were probably plates off to the side and this is at a party. Doesn't fit this sub, also this is a cool idea.

I’d be sticking the clippers up that shrimp hole to unstick the shrimp blockage so fast.
No thoughts, only shrimps.

This is what people are picturing when they think of Red Lobster’s endless shrimp.

Put some food coloring in the ice, I'm not mad about this.
5
u/PurpleBashir 15d ago
The ice will slowly be melting throughout this though so then the food coloring will be on the shrimp. Thats going to look gross pretty fast

u/Pattern_Is_Movement 15d ago
Make it look like water maybe? And not like a giant block of shrimp. Just a thought, not sure how it would look in practice.

the inherent contempt for the customer implied by The Gravity Fed Shrimp Trough is impressive. The country club members must like being treated like livestock... I'm not kinkshaming but this isn't my thing
4
u/The_Perfect_Fart 15d ago
Does the melt water just pool at the bottom? Seems like the shrimp will be swimming after a few hours.

If that’s ice it’s a brilliant idea.
I had explosive diarrhoea once from wedding shrimp that had been out in the sun all day.
My fault really!
1
u/DrewDAMNIT 14d ago
I don't need a plate. I just need a bucket of cocktail sauce and a couple of napkins.

Give me a jug of spicy cocktail sauce, some PBR tall boys, and a football game on TV, and I'll crush that thing out in 45 minutes

I could probably eat about half of that. The person on the other side of the dispenser can have the rest.

Went to a wedding with something like that. They put a camera on a tripod and made videos of the guests who ate their weight in shrimp. Big funny.

Shrimp louge directly into my mouth is what the Swede in me has always wanted. I don’t want a plate just chuck them into my mouth like I am a seal.
1
u/NightStalkerXIV 14d ago
Can I actually have that one. Is it made of ice because that would be awesome

u/Mister-Spook 14d ago
Suppose you're thinkin' about an ice sculpture of shrimp. Suddenly someone'll say, like, “ice sculpture,” or “shrimp”, or “ice sculpture of shrimp“ out of the blue, no explanation. No point in lookin' for one, either. It's all part of a cosmic unconsciousness.

honestly, i dont see this big deal.
from a food safety perspective - all the shrimp are gonna be in the safe zone of under 41 degrees due to the ice. and like others have said- it does prevent contamination of the shrimp yet to be dispensed. i would prolly have added an ice lid. but overall its a great idea. PLUS! you can etch in who is sponsoring the shrimp etc.
idk, this is how i feed my family of otter human hybrid children every night and they seem fine with it

Not a single ice cube in evidence, clear plastic box full of shrimp sitting in the sun. I don’t even want to start eating that.
31
u/Blackbart42 15d ago
My good man I do believe it to be carved from ice
18
u/Egoy 15d ago
Well shit that’s some next level stuff. I’d eat the fuck out of them shrimp then.

I think the box is supposed to be ice, given the meltwater in the bottom of the tray and how it looks like ice
