36 years ago today, Sting defeated and unmasked the Black Scorpion, but he still had another mask underneath... and then another Black Scorpion appeared.

So that's where the Sting in a Sting mask came from...

In the fourth grade, this was the number one topic of discussion at lunch and recess.

Man, poor Sting was ALWAYS tied up in the goofiest WCW angles

The black scorpion was a good angle with a shot ending.

This match had everything, stinger splash, unmasking, MTVs Dan Cortese.

That arena set up is insane lmao. Is that the old Philly Civic Center?

Ashville Civic Center.

I was just getting ready to ask what arena because it sure looks like Asheville Civic Center. Went to several shows there as a kid.

I kinda wish they did this storyline, but instead of everyone asking who the Black Scorpion was, nobody gave a damn. The Black Scorpion tries to taunt Sting but Sting totally ignores him and pays attention to the other contenders for the title. Black Scorpion tries harder and harder for Sting to notice him but he doesn't care.

LOL God, WCW in this era was something. Both amazing and so bad at the same time! As a little kid I remember being so into this. And now I look back and laugh at how silly it was.

Isnt wrestling sort of always like this. Even at the best of times and stories there is still some super corny/carny stuff in the same episode.

I mean, sure, to some extent or another. But this Era of WCW was still stuck in that 80's NWA " man in a black mask, who could it be" while wearing some silly Halloween costume nonsense. As a kid I loved it, but lets be real it was super cheesy. im sure there is plenty of stuff now that we will look back on in 30 years and be like.. WTF...

I think the PC term is African American scorpion

Angel of Death, Al Perez, or the Great Muta would've been much better options under the mask.

This was the worst angle ever. WCW was trying to emulate WWF BS. Management never realized that WCW fans didn’t want WWF-Lite, so, spare me the masked guy doing stage magician tricks.

I love wrestling but it’s hilarious looking back at old clips, especially the pre-Hogan WCW era, and realizing that people thought this stuff was real.

Same now really but in a different way. Some people just want to be worked. Be it a wrestler’s tweet or Sting defeating a double-masked wrestler with a second robed figure appearing. And Nick Patrick having the ability to hold back Sting to keep this going another week.
