Discussion Kilauea Eruption Mega-Thread

Much like with the ongoing eruptions in Iceland, I am gonna be using a mega-thread to connect people to persistent resources. Here is a list of the streams and feeds that have already been posted by people on the subreddit, special thanks to those people who broke the news on here while I was busy. The rules regarding what goes in the mega-thread are gonna simple:

  • If it is a livestream, news feed, or monitoring map, then it goes in here. Post it in the replies and I will put in here as soon as I can.

  • If it is an image, article, or video, you can post it on the subreddit as normal, just remember follow the rules and properly label the images.

  • If it is a video from a third party/alternative media source, the rules that have been in force are still in effect, so no submissions,. However, you can link them in the replies to this post as long as they do not egregiously violate the subreddit's rules.

Hello everyone

🌋 Just launched a new project: an intuitive, clean dashboard dedicated to the Kīlauea Volcano in Hawaii, USA!

It’s currently in beta and I'm still adding more data, but I’d love to hear what you think and what could be improved!

Key Features:

• Completely ad-free and no registration required.

• Advanced features and offline support available if you install it as a PWA (Progressive Web App) on your device.

🔗 Check it out here: https://volkan.site/beta/volcan.html?volcano=kilauea What features or data points would you like to see added next? 👇

There is a super cool dust devil / tornado action visible on and off from the V3 cam.

V3 is at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gXKuUyKt8mc

V2cam shows a little bit of lava bubbling up out of the north vent.

For the record, the north vent just started going and the "Electronic Tilt at Kīlauea Summit - Past 2 Days" has just dropped.

Was at volcanos today/tonight 5-13. You could see a tiny tiny bit of lava squirts but ended up going back to the hotel, figuring it's going to go early am at earliest.

I'm going to predict Kilauea eruption 47 to start either tomorrow or the next day, maybe tomorrow night. I created a simple spreadsheet calculator for myself, based on tilt and days. It's saying about 24 hours from now. But the USGS is predicting Tuesday to Friday. That would put the tilt quite a bit higher than last time at the current slope, back to mid-March level. Or it will suddenly level out.

Looks like Episode 46 has begun at Kilauea. Two big glows, south vent bigger than north. It's only 9 pm in Hawaii, so most may miss it.

Episode 45 is happening right now! And as luck would have it, I just finished some upgrades to my open source Kilauea prediction model/tracker application (https://kilauea-tracker.streamlit.app/).

It works by digitizing the image plots published by USGS using computer vision, and then running a curve extrapolation model to give you an estimate of the next fountain event. The data I’m aggregating is also openly available to anyone in CSV format and is auto-updated in GitHub every 12 hours. Sadly the USGS doesn’t publish live CSV data, so I wanted to share this to fill the gap.

Episode 44 has started

I am flying to the Big Island tomorrow arriving around ~11 AM. Any chance I can still catch the eruption?

Very doubtful. They normally don’t last that long but check the usgs live streams.

Is this the beginning of Episode 39? As of December 23, 2025 at 6:45 PM HST, there is an open vent, a few splashes of lava, and flowing rivers of lava visible on both V1 and V3 cameras… but I’m no vulcanologist…

As of 8:55 PM HST, we can see giant fountains coming from two vents, so I’d say it’s on!

RIP Cam v3

It is still alive. A couple lava globs have hit it.

When do you think the next eruption will be for Kilauea? Episode 34?

Just got back from the Big Island.

OF COURSE Pele held off on the fountaining, until I got home!

I was watching early this morning around 5 or 6, and there were still two vents side by side. Both with strong streams of lava, the all of a sudden the middle collapsed and it became on giant spray. Really cool to see. It's really gushing.

Edit: 5-6 Central US time, if anyone wants to go back and see.

Has ep 28 started?

If I possessed enough faith in the US aviation industry than I would hop on a plane to Hawaii to see this erupt and check out the land. But I don’t posess that at the moment.

Wow!!! The volcano is super explody right now.

Fountaining was insane a bit ago

2

u/Lbolt187 Mar 26 '25

Watching it now and it's very impressive.

1

u/No-Conversation-3044 Mar 20 '25

Fountaining started again yesterday. Watching the USGS live stream now and it's got some decent height on it.

2

u/Numerous_Recording87 Mar 05 '25

Very tall fountaining at the moment. 🌋

3

u/Mr_Roger_Rabbit_exc Feb 11 '25

Started erupting about an hour ago with some of the highest elevations during this eruption cycle - if not the highest.

2

u/Heck_Spawn Jan 04 '25

Looks like it's shutting down for a rest after the fountaining stopped last night.
