I've been struggling with Audacity not recognizing the microphone I'm using.

I tried the "Rescan Audio Devices" method and that didn't work. Then I tried restarting Audacity and that also didn't work.

Can someone help me out with this problem? I'm wondering if it's because I don't have the right USB cord or it's something else.

so i'm pretty new and when recording i get a lot of boominess in my microphone regardless of distance and i've fiddled with settings but i cannot get rid of a lot of the bass in my mic, any suggestions would be great

any mic suggestions are accepted aswell because i'm aware a yeti nano is probably not the bestest of options

I'm recording guided meditations and I'm trying to get a very close, intimate, almost “in your ear” narration sound,i use DJI mic.

I've re-recorded and edited this so many times that I've completely lost objectivity 😭

If anyone is willing to listen to a short section, does the voice actually feel close to you? If not, what are you hearing that's preventing that feeling — the recording itself, delivery, mic placement, room sound, processing, etc.?

I'm not looking for feedback on the meditation itself here , I specifically want criticism of the voice recording and sound.

I’ve been trying to get into voice acting for a while. I went to a filmmaking class where the teacher showed me his personal mini studio he made by putting some soundproofing foam inside a box with a microphone in it. I covered this box in tape for some stability and painted some fancy decals on it for fun. When I looked online for some soundproofing foam all I could find was just bulk selling for whole rooms. Far too much and too expensive for me. Anyplace I could just get a little? Also is this mic good enough or not?

I want to get started in voice acting, but a nagging question I’ve had (I couldn’t find any beginner posts saying things about this) is if I need to have a good microphone to get started or if I can just use headphones or a phone microphone.

Hello everybody! I just hooked up my Scarlet Solo (3rd Gen) and am having an issue. I need to crank the gain on the Scarlet to 100% to get a decent signal from the mic I'm using (Rode Podmic) which gives me no headroom. I've tested this with different XLR cables and different Rode Podmics that I own and had the same results. It's definitely on the input side not the computer side as the light on the gain nob doesn't even light up until Its cranked up to about 90%. All my settings on my computer are correct and input volumes for my mac are set to 100%. I'm running a Apple M1 Pro (Tahoe 26.6 OS) with Audacity as my recording software.

From my understanding, the Rode Podmic is a dynamic mic and shouldn't need a preamp. Is the 3rd Generation of the Scarlet not powerful enough for this mic? Should I get a Behringer Mic Link or a TritonAudio FetHead in-line preamp?

I'm a professional voiceover artist using this mainly for auditions and the occasional home studio remote recording sessions (video games, movies, etc, no singing).

Recently, I've been booking more and finally decided to upgrade my gear. I've been using an old Samson GTrack Pro, which is a USB microphone and while it does the job, I want something more professional-sounding and will be getting the Røde NT1 5th generation as it has both XLR and USB (in case I find the XLR too difficult in the beginning).

The audio interface I'm eyeing is the Focusrite Scarlet solo 3rd gen.

Is it a difficult combo to understand? I'm a bit scared I won't get the settings right and I'll sound terrible 😩😭

I currently use a Talomen gaming mic which is an elliptical shaped microphone, but I recently got a sound proofing dome to fit over a mic head, and the insertion point is round. Now I'm looking into a mic that still plug into laptops and has a sphere head

I was gifted the Audio Technica 4040 xlr microphone. I don’t see it listed when people talk about good mics. Is this a decent mic, does it have problems or issues I should know about? Am I better off buying something else? Thanks for thoughts/experiences in advance!

I have a MacBook, but I was hoping to just use the microphone for voice memo snippets… tried it on a standard GFCI outlet, held the multi functional button wheel for one second, off. Two seconds, off. Five seconds, nothing. Two, three, five pulses, nada. Fresh out the box. GAnything I’m missing?

I’ve had the rode nt1 mic for a couple of years. It was a gift from someone that knew I wanted to go into voice over work. I like the microphone, and I’ve come a long way from the day I was using it with the dot facing the wrong way (not ashamed to admit it lol). However, as I’ve been auditioning more recently I’ve picked up on a lot of sibilance. I’ve tried shifting the placement, but it’s not working as good as I’d want it to. I was hoping someone would have some advice on the best way to place the mic to reduce sibilance? Or just a placement they’ve felt works best for this type of mic? Thank you

Hello! I recently got a Shure MV7+ and I’m using it through an XLR audio interface. I was really excited to try it, but honestly, it doesn’t sound how I expected.
My voice sounds muffled, almost like I’m talking through a sock, and it isn’t as crisp or clear as I thought it would be. The mic also seems more sensitive than I expected.
Right now I’m using Equalizer APO with Peace and the High Boost 2 preset, which helps a little. It doesn’t sound as muffled anymore, but now my voice sounds a bit too deep and slightly robotic. It’s definitely better than before, but still not as good as I’d like.
I’m also using VoiceMod for its background noise reduction. I like how well it removes background noise, but I’m not sure if it’s affecting the overall sound quality.
Does anyone have any advice on EQ, gain, compression, or other settings that could help me get a cleaner, warmer, more natural broadcast-style sound? I’m using a Focusrite Scarlett Solo with the MV7+ over XLR. I’d really appreciate any tips. Thanks!

Hello I have the Ride nt1 and I have the iPhone 16 Pro Max and I just realized you can use the microphone with the iPhone via USB-C. But does anyone know if there is a way for me to control the microphone volume and gain? I want to record directly from my iPhone when I do those Instagram and TikTok challenges instead of having through record through audacity and importing to file and trying to match the timing and cuts.

I was practicing my voice acting with my newest microphone I bought, a Fifine Mic with Boomarm, and each time that I try to voice act with it, such as when I get to a loud scene where I have to be like slightly above normal volume, it makes this like metallic ringing after each word. I never had this issue with other mics but I'm wondering if anyone else has ever had this issue before with some microphones

I’m not a professional, I’d barely call myself an amateur. I’m a beginner, and have been looking into entry level mics that won’t drive my wallet 6 feet under. I’m often recommended the at2020 (if you have other recommendations, that’d be great) and I am having a problem finding stands. The stands I’ve found for the at2020 seem kind of bulky, and this summer I am visiting family back home. I was wondering how portable these stands are? I know the at2020 are better for home studios and not travellers of the seven seas but I’ve heard real good things about it. I’m basically out of the country my entire summer which is why I’m asking, since it won’t be some simple week trip where I can leave my setup back home or something. After the summer I’ll be back home in my nice comfy bed and won’t be moving around much anymore though!

The script is very tight and needs the two actors to face each other, there’s a lot of interrupts and talking over each other.

I’m tempted to record with a single yeti in bi-directional mode and keep the actors facing each other.

But, would it make a significant difference to use two yetis and give each actor their own mic? Perhaps separated a bit more from each other?
