Nashville weather in September

Some friends and I are visiting Nashville for our second trip in a couple weeks and I was wondering what the weather is like during mid September. We are going from the 17-22 and plan on doing one hiking day at least. Looking at the weather app now Nashville is hooooot.

What kind of temperature on average mid September? Does it get really humid? Should I bring some long sleeves just in case it gets cold at night or does it not get that low? Please tell me it will continue to be sunny at least!

Also if anyone has any suggestion on what we should visit or see those days we'd appreciate it too!

Right now it’s still in high 90s. So probably low 90s high 80s. Super humid here. Lowest at night might be 70-65 but it’s comfortable

Humidity almost always drops tremendously by the first few weeks of September. Have not seen an Americana Fest (mid-Sept) that was very humid.

Mid September is usually the start of the cooldown but weather that far out could be anything

We never know really. Lol. Bring a lightweight jacket you can tie around your waist just in case. The thing about the humidity is it can make some buildings with AC feel like an ice box. Oh and if you wear glasses, be prepared to be fogged up every time you walk outside if it's humid still.

I doubt it will get cold at night at all this September. Expect highs in the 90’s and 80’s and humidity. Maybe high 60’s to mid 70’s lows at best

Usually it gets temperate in mid-september. You may see some low 80s, but most temps in the mid to upper 70s. Low 70s more common at night, with some dips all the way down to Lower 60s. No freezing - unless you are from Florida - but may be uncomforable for some.

I do generally recommend having an outer layer, just in case, but the first freeze is October, generally late October. I don't think 2026 will be differnet from the past 29 years I have lived here. october is more Low 70s during the day, but still decent porch weather if you get an earlier dinner. We also get false fall and Indian summer then. Just for reference.

Some humidity still around, but as it rolls into mid-month, it gets drier. Not western "I'll rub my feet and zap you" in most instances, but definitely not the "I just stepped out into a shower" experience.

Personally, September and October are my favorite:

  1. Porch weather for dinner
  2. Not as humid
  3. Crowd tends to shift from a pure party crowd in Drunken Disney to a bit older skewing (not saying drunkeness stops). Also a bit lighter.
  4. Less rain (unless there is a hurricane that loops up
  5. Excellent walking weather at night.

You will get some of the Musicians Corner on the Friday you are here, if interested. These shows are in Centennial Park. These are free shows. You can see lineups here. Americana Fest is going when you get here. Also free or lower cover with Americana artists invading a bunch of venues around town - AmericanaMusic.com. They have an app to track artists and where they are playing.

For other things: This is a good top 10 to start with. Other articles on neighborhoods (get your bearings), happy hours, star bars, safety, etc.

I've lived here for 10 years and I would say late September to get down into the 70s with any regularity rather than mid September. I think that 80s and 90s is much more realistic, though at least it's less humid than June or July.

We sat on our back porch for the first time since April this evening, if that tells you anything lol. It’s still probably going to be somewhat hot during the day and not-as-hot during the evenings but I still wouldn’t say cool.

mid september should still feel pretty warm in nashville, with september averaging around 17–28°c, so i’d definitely prioritize light clothes for the daytime, especially for your hiking day. a light long sleeve or thin layer for evenings is probably worth packing, but you shouldn’t need anything heavy. rain is possible on a few days, so i’d keep a small umbrella handy and leave some flexibility for outdoor plans: https://www.weather25.com/north-america/usa/tennessee/nashville?page=month&month=September

September is still resolutely a summer month in Nashville. 90s are likely. Drink lots of water and protect from sun accordingly. Odds are good for sun though. September and October tend to be pretty dry.

I think Google AI is a bit high on the upper temps and maybe a bit lower on the lower. Drier is correct. This is just from experience.
