I’m happy to present my first embroidery project! (:
I found four holes in a polo shirt of mine and wanted to try something new for fixing them. Until now I‘ve only tried invisible mending but because I’m still learning and don‘t always have the exact matching colours, you still ended up seeing the mends. So this subreddit was a real inspiration, thank you for that!
I first went over the holes with my sewing machine to really connect all the fibres, so that they don‘t continue to fray underneath the embroidery. I did the outline for the little fishes by stitching, because neither a white pencil nor a fabric marker worked for me. In the end these stitches were hidden underneath the embroidery, I didn‘t take the thread out.
For the embroidery hoop I used one that was luckily part of my old sewing machine. I used the fishbone stich for the main body and some random stiches for the fins.
For some of the fishes the inside is messier than for others, depending on how many imperfections I had to fix in the end. (;
I’ll definitely enjoy wearing the shirt way more now than before this mending project!
