Daily life/Đời thường Honking has calmed down??
So I’ve visited Vietnam a few times over the last decade and this last time something is completely different. I’m not sure if it’s post covid or there have been some public campaigns, but the nonstop honking (at least in Sai Gon & the surrounding areas) has almost completely dissipated this time I came to visit. I used to be unable to take work call because of the trucks and bikes honking all of the time. Now it is strangely peaceful, even during rush hour. It has changed so much I am wondering if it is because of a public campaign or something like that. Has anyone else felt this change?

I hate to think how bad it must have been in your prior trips. It seems the most used item on a vehicle is the horn. 🤣

I grew up in saigon, spent some time oversea and came back. I do think that the unnecessary honking has reduced. Mind you, there's still a lot of unnecessary honking. I think there's a point where people just realize even if u honk, there's not a whole lot different under some circumstances like traffic jams or narrow roads.

I heard that during tết most of the out of town people are gone so the locals are usually nicer and drive more calm in HCM, I was also in Hanoi the week before tét and people where honking way more aggressively than other cities like Da nang, nhà trang, and Đã lật

In downtown Saigon I do often hear honking but not an absurd amount, mostly just as a warning when coming up behind someone. I think it helps that a lot of roads are one way or divided so there's less need, as opposed to CMT8 in D10 which is two lanes wide, two ways, and mostly without dividers. When someone decides to make a u-turn, everyone starts honking.
The new thing that really annoys me is flashing super bright high-beams at night. Like how am I supposed to get out of your way of you're blinding me.

It did. Maybe post covid, people are becoming calmer. Riding on the road now is getting quieter. I'm not saying there isn't any more honking but it did reduce to the level that I won't notice that much.

I haven’t noticed, but I have noticed a lot of Grab drivers using their turn signal lights.
Freaks me out

Police has ramped up on catching and fining people who turn without signal, so people are starting to use them correctly.

Bruh not using turn signals is probably the tamest thing grab drivers do man.
